1. Mono are good but I always find the adjuster slipping to a different position.
2. Good question! I have seen loads of turgid local acts... Hollywood Undead were shocking if anyone remembers them. Friends were pretty bad. Florence & The Machine - utter dog s***e. All American Rejects circa 2012.
3.
This all seems to be about quality of sound though... Are the cheapie foam ones fit for purpose, as in will I damage my hearing by using them? Are more expensive ones going to offer me better protection or just a better sound?
Just a more defined sound. I've been using the yellow foam ones for 10 years and can still catch high frequencies with my ears off monitors/screens etc. Don't fall for the claptrap of it will offer more protection/those one's aren't safe.
4.
You obviously dont think that your hearing is a priceless asset to have. People think nothing about spending hundreds of pounds on bass "accessories" but spend little or nothing on the most important one...your hearing...without which..would render all the other "accessories" redundant. Anyway, it's your hearing and so.. your call. I would advise people to spend as much as they can afford, to protect their hearing.
I'm wearing hearing protection you wazuck... read the post.
5. Ooh, sickburn.
6. £15 for earplugs?! You must have money to burn! I just use those foam yellow ones typical in workshops etc.
7. 18V Danelectro Cool Cat.
8. Yeah, FX are a gauge down from FL. The tension should be pretty close between the two - FXs will be a little more than TI. Though like regular gauge flats, the FX set will be harder to bend than TIs.
9.
Are the Lakland ones now just GHS in a GHS packet? Purple silk not black silk and not repackaged?
Always were the same string anyway.
10. Why buy something without even trying it first?
11. How many here have met Tim? *Tumbleweed* So until then reserve your judgement, yeah?
12.
Commorford's from Rage Against The Machine and Audioslave; hopefully has something new in the works if he's doing press
His new band is called Wakrat. Knucklehead is a great tune; lovely dirty bass all over.
13. Elixirs and other coated strings like that are a little less bright than non coated rounds but do have an extended life. My favourite coated strings are D'Addario EXPs because in my experience they last as long as Elixirs, cost less and feel less 'plasticy'.
14. I believe Status and Picato flats are the same string now.
15. If you are used to 45-105 gauge rounds, I would suggest 40-100 flats maybe 45-100 and that should be a similar feel; rounds and flats are the same tension. It's the construction of flats that makes them feel stiff i.e. 'more tension'. If you want an old skool thumpy dead sound, LaBella or GHS Precision flats which I think have the edge over LB's. If you want more of a brighter, livelier flat then Chromes or Fender 9050s. Also, Pressurewounds are strings with a 'normal' roundwound tension, smoother feel and flatish sort of sound. They might be what you're after if you find flats too hard to bend/play etc.
16. They're more of an inbetween flat and round sort of sound. They aren't that bright from the get go. What sound are you trying to achieve?
17. I was at that Motley/Alice gig in Brum. Never seen either before. Alice was great and had a superb stage show. Motley seemed to be going through the motions and when Sixx made that speech about the knife... a few people around me walked out. Vince Neil sounded like Lulu a lot of the time which didn't help.
18.
I know from previous experience that shops as an example, even if they display "breakages must be paid for" notices cannot make customers liable for accidental damage. I'd imagine that unless any damage in your case was malicious, and thereby becoming criminal damage, you don't have any redress to either the drunk lady or your client.
But if they weren't drunk in the first place then it wouldn't have happened. Like drink driving...
19. He used a '62 stack knob Jazz on that track with either GHS Precision flats or Labellas. The amp is anyone's guess.
20.
I have always said that I wouldn't let that kind of thing discourage me from good music. However... There are two bands... One is W.A.S.P., after Blackie Lawless got Born Again and decided the renounce a lot of their earlier, better stuff and declared that he would never play them live again, I swore I'd never go to see him live again. The other is Megadeth. Again, Dave Mustaine got Born Again and started doing interviews spouting proper nasty, vile bigoted stuff. So I vowed to never buy any of his stuff again. I still listen to and enjoy the stuff by them that I already owned, I just won't be giving them any more of my money. It's not that they got Born Again, I listen to bands with christians in them and even bands that declare themselves christian bands. It just seemed to be a trigger in those two cases.
Didn't Blackie also call Slash the n word?
21. TC Polytune which died after 5 years and now a Korg Pitchblack. I would never use a clip on tuner... might as well buy a £100 bass.
22. Good band. But boring, non-entertaining and going through the motions when playing live.
23. Yelawolf in a few days...
24. Megadeth have consistently made solid albums (bar the late 90s output...).
25. D'Addario EXPs.
