1.
I think the all time classic for having the "F-Bomb" in it is "Hey Jude", by that popular liverpool beat combo "The Beatles". in case you are wondering, it's at about 2.57 into the song.
Paul says, "Argh! F***ing hell!". Pretty funny every time I hear it on the radio.
2.
What is success without talent?
Stones.
3. Buy a new amp or pedals. Sorted.
4. What is talent without success though?
5. Always forgotten about because of JPJ/Bonzo but how about Butler/Ward?
6.
How long do they keep their brightness for?
A fair while, longer than Rotos that's for sure.
7. If you want smoother Roto nickels try DR Sunbeams.
8.
On a budget you'd be hard pressed to do better than a Boss ODB-3 and an EHX Bass Big Muff if it's fuzz you're after rather than light overdrive - for which I would steer you to a Hardwire CM-2, EHX Glove or Bass Soul Food.. the Joyo Pure Sky is also an option, supposed to be a Timmy clone with more bass!
Would second the EHX Glove, 18V mode is great for a big valvey tone. The Hardwire CM-2 is a good shout too.
9. Last, usually always for a DI. Putting an OD before it will give you better EQ options.
10.
£349.50 worth of crack cocaine and an old tennis racket for 50p from a local charity shop.
Best post all year.
11.
Yamaha basses have been solidly good for as long as I have been playing. Having said that, pretty much everything made by them from instruments to motorbikes and everything in between are spot on.
Huge +1.
12.
So try one bass, one problem with THAT bass, EVERYTHING'S Overpriced? Seems fair.
Yet another tyre kicker, do one son.
13. It's a nice little shop but I would say the stock is a bit overpriced. Tried those D Lakin basses a while ago and one of the control knobs came straight off...
14.
Blood Sugar is not a great bass tone.
Of course it isn't if you play a Bender.
15. Tell me Blood Sugar is not a great bass tone.
16. I think this is an EQ thing more than a certain type of string thing. Maybe just put fresh rounds on?
17.
I find the saddles on the 201 are way too fat and have to be on the deck to get anything remotely close to a nice action. I had to shim a neck after lowering the saddles to the deck on one bass and even then the action still felt a bit high. When the saddles are on the deck the adjustment screws stick up, are sharp and rip your right hand to shreds if, like me you often find yourself resting the outside of your hand on the bridge, I loathe the gotoh 201.
Your action must be like 1mm at the first fret lol.
18. Seymour SJB1s!
19. I have never heard any musician say I don't like gigging... Are you just a TB reject member?
20. A timewaster.
21. Don't forget to put your boxing gloves on for a decent night's kip.
22. I had a good trick when I was younger - show up to the audition but leave my bass in the car. Find the guys in the rehearsal rooms and have a 5 minute chat. If they seemed cool, "Just getting my bass, lads". If they were tits who didn't have a clue (or looked awful), "Just getting my bass, lads" and drive off! Immature but not wasting my time.
23. Hi Beams or Fat Beams. Dunlop Super Bright steels are worth a shout too.
24. It's like wine - because it's more expensive and because we say it tastes better, it does. Not true.
25. Trust me - a lot of people out there can't sing or play... instead of no timewasters, I say demos please.
