1. Timmy C I know does because he's the one who got me into them.
2. Easier and better than any 'official' straplock IMO.
Must be pretty widespread as Fender have their own branded rubber washers but if you don't get to drink beer to get them, what's the point?! http://www.thomann.d...trap_blocks.htm
Exactly! A washer with a free beer.
3.
We all have set lists, but he can't read his and won't wear his glasses on stage, so asks all night what's next, once he is told he changes on to whatever sound he needs, then plays a few bars of the song to check he remembers it, thus giving away what's coming next. He is actually a very good player, it's this ocd that winds me up!
Tell him to wear contacts then... just pure lazy attitude. Don't tell him - eventually he might change his ways but won't any time soon if you keep telling him. Sounds like he needs more practice too.
4.
When I went to see The Who a couple of years ago at the NIA, the support band's bassist after every song played his open strings "bink bank bonk bunk" for no apparent reason. Unless it was to make sure he'd still got all four strings, I suppose.
That's being nervous. You finish a song and don't know how the crowd will react so feel the need to make noise to cover up any possible silence. Unprofessional IMO.
5. Didn't you play a pub last night...
6. Aspirin?! Jesus! I bring my own beer to gigs!
7.
What a man. RIP Sir Terry Woman.
Wogan, sir. May he RIP.
8. A Precision from 50 years ago sounds like a Precision made today. This is a lot like expensive wine where people judge with their eyes... don't give me all that aged wood density crap.
9.
No-one needs to listen to Radio 1 all day. Just put twelve crap songs on your iPod and set it to 'shuffle'.
Isn't that Radio 2? And replace crap with old crap.
10.
In general (there are always exceptions...), the very concept of tipping is antithetical to most Britons, I'd suggest.
We have minimum wage in Britain. In America (particularly waiters/barstaff) they are paid under the minimum wage with the assumption that they'll make enough tips to bring them up over that minimum.
11.
You could buy a real vintage bass with natural real age. Or If you travel and gig enough, you'll have an authentic aged bass. Not something you paid for to make you look like you have something you don't really have.
Couldn't agree more. Bedroom players with a relic?
12.
Our guitard has obsessive compulsive whatsitsname, there's no way he is out of tune in one song and even if he was, it would be so slight that it would be unnoticeable. No, he just has these routines he has to complete or the world will blow up or something. It's infuriating. One small grace is the smoking ban. He used to have a draw on a fag after tuning, recheck tuning, have a drink out his pint, have a draw on the fag, play the first few bars of the next song, have a draw on his fag then turn to me and say, right, what are we doing next? Aaaaargh!!!!
Long breaks between songs for no apparent reason make a band look like amateurs. Doesn't matter if you're just starting out or been doing this 30 years. Sounds like he has OCD to be honest; doing things in a particular order, constant rechecking of tuning. I would make sure everyone had a setlist so to know what's coming up and bash straight into the next song. If he moans about it, tell him you didn't enjoy the punters saying get on with it!
13. Woah. I know people like to prepare but some of this stuff is insane. I take spare leads for bass/amp/pedals and have a spare 9V battery for my passive bass... My bass has never 'broke' in over 200 gigs, I've never snapped a string, I use the DI from my MXR M80 in case my amp goes but it never has. A bottle opener is an essential tool I use every gig.
14. I require three monitors just for myself!
15. It's like classic cars. I'm more of a modern guy anyway.
16. I would no way go from an AG500 to a TH500. Downsize yes but also a downgrade.
17. Why is your bass all banged up and chipped? I had it made to look like this. *Runs*
18. I need extra monitors, what's that all about?! Wouldn't get many gigs round my end doing that, probably zero.
19. 33'' scale and natural distortion?! Just lower the action on your 34''...
20.
Things seem to be getting a bit confused. All of the venues where we play except this one pay a fee, some pay a smaller fee and then pass the jug - primarily smaller venues. The 15% thing is a new one on me, and the venue in question, which both Mykesbass and I have payed at regularly (us for a long time before the current guy took over which is about 18 months ago: can't speak for Mkyesbass about that) has only just started that as a policy. It always used to pay a fee. I can certainly see, as JTUK says, that some bands will drop it s a venue: It wouldn't surprise me at all, and it will be the better bands so the whole thing has the potential to turn into a downward spiral. It would be a shame as it's a nice place to play.I also agree with Casapete's comments. The main point was that as the jug is an established local practice, if people start to pay and more at the bar by debit card, and come out with no cash things will have to change. The venues will be reluctant, but if they won't up their fee, and the jug values drop so the bands don't want to play there it will probably mean less venues. Not good. As for the "Why aren't you in an originals band then" comment form LayDownThaFunk: WTF has that got to do with he price of fish? You, Sir, are clearly a troll and I don't propose to enter into any further comment tennis with you on this subject or any other. Life's too short. As is probably a certain part of your anatomy. (Sorry, Mods - couldn't help myself).
Every post I've made in this thread is perfectly valid and way off trolling. If you would like to discuss this with me in a more mature manner then please use the private message system, thank you.
21. Reliced bass for sale in mint condition.
22. Don't start a thread then back out. It's like pulling a girl and...
23. DEFINITELY BUY IT AND TELL US ALL ABOUT IT WHEN IT GOES TITS UP.
24. Why don't you play in originals bands then? Bit of a double standard there.
25. The thing is if you don't put the age thing, you'll get loads of replies saying "I'm a young 43" or "I don't look my age". Most the time, these sort of ads are kids really wanting to have a go at getting signed etc. etc. so they're thinking about image (which does matter) and you don't want to be the old boy standing out in the crowd looking like a Dad who wandered into his son & friends prom photo. If they REALLY want to have a go at 'making it' then they would also probably be willing to give up their jobs - you can't really do that when you have a wife/kids/house to pay for.
