  1. Have you seen this thread When i got my Jack Casady bass recently none of my straps woudl hold it upright, and it has quite a pronounced neck dive. My fav strap is the Mono Betty, but that slides all over the place After buying a couple of new straps, getting wider and wider i found this worked, but is a bit on the short side for me https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000XPSGPS/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I ended up with this. Its not cheap, but its extra long and very, very comfortable. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004GF6DXS/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Both leather so i know they aren't really ideal, but Ive found suede to be the most grippy of materials.
  2. I've got wizard 74's on my Jazz bass. Pretty decent pups for the price. I had 84's but didnt like them. I also had a Wizard Thumper in my P bass a few years ago. Like the Fralin before it i thought it was nice, but not what i was hoping for.
  3. im lucky, as mine is a 20th Aniv model, so i know when it was made. it also has a large sticker inside stating it. Still, i might check that website to see if it confirms this. I love the bass, but its the most uncomfortable bass ive ever played. Not the actual playing of it on the neck, just sitting down or standing with it. i get neck or shoulder ache. I love the neck, although i cant quite get the action i want. I think ill get a fret dressing in the new year. I guess im just not used to non Fender shaped basses. The bridge popped off 30mins in to owning it, but a bit of superglue has worked well and ive not had it come off again. I ordered a new bridge in a state of panic, but i was happy with the old bridge. The new one is more comfortable though, as i play mostly with a pick so tend ot rest my hand on the bridge. I got a nice wide strap, so neck dive isnt a problem, but i do find the edge of the body cuts in to my right forearm after a while. . Overall for me, a flawed bass but the first bass ive owned that im prepared to live with them, as i love the tone so much.
  4. Ive had mine since the first run, and other than the strings ive not had to change anything. There are one or two long threads on here about the Sire range, might be worth looking in those.
  5. ......or one with magic fairy dust in it and a recognised name on the front........
  6. Meh, ill be honest and say i cant see anything special l here at all. Of course, the world needs a new pre amp so it will sell by the bucket loads 🙂
  7. Well I hope it all pans out. Good luck.
  8. Nice one Michael. Support or headline?
  9. Not as cheap as most of their gear but looks interesting.....on paper. I like that it has Power amp sim's as well. Not a video review, but it does look cool.

  10. Ive used my P bass in to a BDDI and in to one of our powered db750 PA speakers as a bass rig a few times. Sound better than my normal rig for some reason.
  11. No problem. There is a chance i just haven't noticed it, but im one of those that inspect everything so if it was a problem i hope i would have noticed it.
  12. I disagree with most off the above. i had a 6s plus for 6 weeks (on lone to see if i wanted to buy it). Volume was fine coming from my 5S. I ended up getting a 6S instead and didnt notice any difference volume wise. Iv never used a 7 (or 7 plus), but my 8 plus goes high enough that i never have it on max when making calls so i cant see how its woeful for making calls.
  13. I put my bridge on and while i dont quite see a real need for the felt, i put some on anyway as it will at least protect the finish, even if its not needed for sonic reasons. I also went and got an extra long 3.5" Levy's strap (so two new straps so far). Although the first, cheaper one was ok it felt a bit sharp on the edges, and i felt i could do with just one or two inches longer (giggady) Jack Casady Bass with Hipshot bridge. by Dave Pearce, on Flickr
  14. Ive been using the TCE Spectradrive for Comp and clean boost. The Spectracomp side is as expected. The OD tone print side has a clean boost patch that sounds really nice to my ears. No real added dirt unless you set the gain high. Its called 'Clean boost'. So i have that and the Spectracomp in one box, with a nice bit of EQ as well.
  15. I guess you just have to choose and decide what you can and cant do. I work full time, and only have a few hours free in the evenings. Very rare that I would spend all night playing. That’s why I tend to get the songs in my head first, as listening on headphones can be done away from home. Once I feel I’m familiar with the songs then its easier to learn them. Not everyone learns at the same speed so don’t beat yourself up about it. My posts are just explaining what I do and why. When depp’ing you have to supply the goods as you are being paid to, but for an auditon you may find its not the best that gets the job, but the one that the band feel more comfortable with. You could be the worst of the lot but if the other members take to you you can still get the job, although that’s when the hard works starts. Are you sure you can commit to this if your time is limited?
  16. Sorry, i didnt mean to come across as harsh, just that if it were me I would pull out all the stops to make sure i got the job. If that means up all night learning the songs so be it. I realise not everyone would bother going this far, but i feel i owe it to myself and those that would be affected by it to make sure i do a good job. my methods of learning is normally play along in the evenings but listen to the songs as much as possible at other times. traveling to and from work etc. For me having the songs in my head helps me learn to play them easier, as i dont have to try and remeber what comes next etc.
  17. id put more effort in to make sure i do the best i can. I appreciate what you have said above but if you are that worried, make more of an effort. When i dep i make sure i have the songs down to the best of may ability. No half measures, no excuses. Sure, you may (will) make mistakes on the night, but if its important to you then you will make sure even if you make mistakes you know the songs before hand. i think you will be fine either way though.
  18. Thanks for the reply. I like how these bridges are interchangeable so i think ill give the new one a go. Ill order some new strings as well. The idea of the felt is it goes on the underneath, to give a bit more stability on the outer edges of the bridge. This is to counteract the curved top, supposedly stops any rocking movement (as opposed to Rockin' lol). I spoek to Hipshot and they said the put either a small dot of foam either side, or sometimes strips.
  19. Ah cool, hadnt thought about putting the strap over the front. I might try that tonight. The fishing wire idea is a good one, although i think the neck dive issue is a non issues now i have the wider strap. Cheers for the photo. Is that a Super Tone bridge? ive just got one, although im wondering if i even need to use it. I like how my action is at the moment. Ill probably try it though. did you put felt under the bridge? Ive been reading about that and it seems like i should.
  20. Thanks but the new Levy's strap was just perfect last night. Well, the bass didnt dip much, but because of the grip it did ruffle my T-shirt a bit lol. I also came away with a sore red patch on my right forearm when i was resting it on the edge of the body. Not too worried at the moment but it was uncomfortable at the time. Hopefully i wont get too many long sets to play.
  21. Cheers. ironically just after i got despatch confirmation of the strap from amazon i found a nice matching red 2.5" suede Levy's strap at home attached to my sons guitar. This works fine although its a bit short. The new one is about 1" shorter so i might need to re think this. Seems almost impossible to find the extra long versions in the UK. Ill take both straps tonight and see how it goes.
  22. Yep, pretty much my reason for keeping this bass. Already had to glue a bridge post back in and paid almost £100 to get a new bridge. If this was any other bass it would have gone back, but as I know these issues are common it’s live with them or miss out on what I hear as a fantastic tone, and one I’ve bever had before. I’ve got the wide strap arriving Monday, plus I’ll have my radio transmitter on it, and I’ll use a heavy patch lead with it. I’m hoping that, and the new bridge will be enough, but I’ll sill look in to changing. The tuners as well. Got its first outing on Monday night so I’ll know if it’s a gigable bass then.
  23. Thanks for the suggestuioin. Ill look in to doing something like that if i find the dive too much. I’m ok with it when playing but yes, it’s annoying when i stop. As its very early days i might find it to be a non issue once i get used to it and might find the right strap to help it, but I’m surprised JC let this one go as i know he was quite involved with the design.
  24. Ive just got the above bass, and very nice it is too. Ill post more about it later, but this thread is about finding a nice wide, grippy strap. Can anyone suggest a strap that is wide, at least 3’’, and has maybe a suede or rough lining that will grip my clothes well. I dont want to spend silly money on a leather strap that costs about £100. I am changing the bridge, but dont want to change the tuners just yet, so its just a strap that i want. This looks like it would work, but I’d like other suggestions before i order. . https://www.gak.co.uk/en/levys-m4-brg/80828 Cheers.
  25. Yeah, although for me it’s always without PA support so I need to know I have enough headroom to cover all the gigs I do. This being the case I tend to err on the side of caution and use a rig that more than I need most of the time.
