  1. Oh dont get me wrong, we all know what version we are aiming for. I send links via text and email etc, more than once. ive added the version to our play list that i keep up to date. They turn up knowing we are doing a certain version, but have been too lazy to listen to that version, quite often because its not on Spotify, so just go by the first version they come across and then have to have the stops etc explained to them. Then its 'right, ill go away and have a proper listen for next time'.
  2. i have a big issue with my lot (and the previous lot) not learning the same version. We like to scour YT etc and see alternative versions of some songs. Nothing drastic different, but different none the less. Ever fallen in love by the Stiff Dylans for example. We get to rehearsals and half of them have just gone by the original. 'its more or less the same innit?'. This happens a lot and gets very frustrating.
  3. We always used to wear suits for Social clubs, functions and weddings etc. We had them on in our publicity shots and we woudl get based on what the customer saw, so it made sense to keep with that image unless asked not to (happened a few times when they wanted a more rock look) Never had any 'waiter' issues in over 600 gigs.
  4. Hopefully they will be more wildly available soon. Ill personally wait until i can get it from one of the usual places. i dont like dealing direct with overseas companies if i can help it.
  5. Cheers guys. I do have a proper fret rocker somewhere, i just cant find it at the moment. Like i say ive not exhausted the fault finding yet, but i have a feeling ill let a pro do the fixing if it needs it. Ill only mess it up.
  6. Thanks Gary. I might take you up on that. Still got a few tweaks to do but, if they don’t work ill be in touch.
  7. Ok. Cut down was the wrong word, but to me it looks just like another Charecter pedal, all be it with a twist. Ive always thought Geddy’s tone came from his fingers, playing style and action on his basses. After all, what did he use to use before the preamp came out that gave him the same tone. Still could be an interesting addition to the ranger i guess.
  8. Ive been following the Talkbass thread about this. I cant see why this is being released. It doesnt even have XLR out. Looks like a cut down VTBass.
  9. Anyone have any thoughts about this little comp? Pretty sure it wont be liked by those who need full control over everything, but it appeals to me as its quite simple, but with a bit more real time control compared to my Spectracomp. Also Has a dedicated blend knob on the side. https://becosfx.com/product/compiq-mini-pro-compressor-pedal-for-guitar-bass/
  10. Amp arrived today but it has a screw loose inside. Its rattling around and I’d be worried about it shorting something out, or that something hasnt been secured properly, so its going back. Sounded ok on headphones, although when i compared it to my GK MB800 I realised just how bland it sounded. If i had liked the tone better i woudl have got a replacement, but i cant see a reason to replace the GK at the moment. Forgot to add, the active/passive switch is back to front on mine as well. Not a biggie.Plugging my P bass directly in i couldnt get the peak ligh tot come on at all in the right mode. Slapped the hell out of it and nothing. Changing modes the red LED popped on with the gain only just on, although it didn't sound distorted. The Thrust light was on all the time if the switch was engaged. Quite a poorly made product IMO.
  11. ive used a BDDI for years, but more as a warming thing rather than anything aggressive. The VTBass DI (i prefer this over the normal version) sounds like it will do the job for you, especially with a GK head.
  12. Can i ask what the Tech 21 BSDR SansAmp Bass Driver DI V2 is? I assumed it could be the BDDI but then the reference to a smaller version threw me. EDIT. Ok so its the BDDI. Never seen it called that before other than at GAK. I love mine, but have to agree its not quite ideal for the JJB tone, at least not on its own. I'd suggest the VTBass, its a lot livelier. I used to love playing the intro to Peaches using that.
  13. I used to have the VMT, never liked it. Very dark sounding to my ears. I liked the first gen VMTD though, but still didnt think it was a warm tone like a BDDI.
  14. I got these feet from Amazon. They work really well. I also ordered a cover from Roqsolid at the same time. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07D92FQXS/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I got my RS212 last Nov, just before Andertons dropped the price. Not too bothered as i needed it there and then, but a bit gutted that i could have saved £150 if i had waited. Love the cab, but realised its the heaviest cab ive owned in about 10 years. not heavy per say, just heavier than my previous neo loaded cabs. Just as well its easy to move around.
  15. Yep, been through all that, quite a lot. one pub gig we did a bloke came up to us and asked ‘can you play soemthing by the stones?’ We just did Brown sugar ‘oh, i was outside talking ot my mate, can you play it again’ Later, maybe ‘I’m going in about 10mins, can you do it now?’ No ‘Fair enough, i can stand that song anyway....’
  16. I was totally against these heads over a BH, as i love the intelligent EQ TCE use, but as i keep my amps almost flat, and the BG Low knob is set at 80hz i figured id give one ago. Having used a Spectracomp for a while i like TCE's per amp sections, and i like the idea of the compressor (as limited as it is). Oh, and £185 isnt a bad price, and its red so will match my Jack Casady bass 🙂 Arriving tomorrow, will be used at rehearsal next week.
  17. I record some of our gigs. i clamp a GoPro to one of our speaker stands. Works well picking us all up, although as its on my side i always look larger than the others 🙂 I did one with one of those small Joby tripods wrapped around the handle of one of our PA cabs. that worked better. This is what i use for the PA speaker pole. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01A6KJDFG/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  18. I too don’t use my SC at the moment, but I’m never going to sell it. After a brief fling with a Cali I went back to it, but then realised the audience will never know if I’m using it or not so took it off the board (😏). I will use it again, and do enjoy using it with the Rockwall or Rockateer tone prints.
  19. I never liked Weller or the Jam until my old singer (huge Weller fan) said we should give it a try. Only did 4 gigs but it was great fun leaning those songs and I still like listening to the older Weller songs. Not really in to the latest stuff. Back then our drummer was out off a tribute band called the Jamm. To be honest I’d rather go and listen to a tribute band, or From the Jam, rather than go and see Weller. Good luck with the project.
  20. I was doing the clubs in the south east until a couple of years ago. The average fee for a 4 piece was £350 - £450. I know larger bands got more. This was for a normal Fri/Sat night. For special events it went up a bit, but depending on the club. playing time varied between 2- 2 1/2 hours. On top of that we had to give the agent between 15-20%. All our club gigs were booked through agents, and we were told how much we woudl get paid.
  21. Thanks for the replies and suggestions. its a new bass (Nov 2018) so not likely fret wear, but i do think it might be uneven. im on my second set of strings so its not that. If i press down really hard i can avoid it, same with plucking very softly, but thats not the answer. if increase the neck bow it does make a difference, but again, thats not the answer as the action then changes. Might take it to the Gallery and get them to have a look. i think it could do with a check up anyway, some of the fret edges are quite rough.
  22. No problem. All i did was Google it and post a link. I have the file somewhere but it was quicker to do it this way. it helped me a lot when i was dong a Weller tribute band.
  23. Here you go. http://www.stevesinclair.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/pwga.pdf
  24. Just a quick update regarding the Basswitch Sonic Spark. It arrived yesterday and i had a play around last night, only on headphones though. To my ears its close to the VPF filter on Markbass heads, but its also sweepable so the dip can be moved. Also similar to a BDDI i guess, without real EQ controls or the set dip in the mids. Adding in the overtones/harmonics then warms it all up a bit. Both work independent, but the Enhance is also effected by how the Tone is set. dialling back in the original signal allows for more mid control. Quite cool for a 4 knob box. There is no over the top colouring, its not trying too hard to replicate an Ampeg amp, but there is definitely an added depth and width to the tone, and the harmonics seem to let the notes poke through without sounding harsh and bright. My COG 66 seems to love it, it sounds lot more meaty using my usual settings. It can get close to how i use my BDDI if i want it to, but i think id need more EQ options to use ti like that. Its a very powerful output. This being the case i have my Spectradrive at the end of the chain to tame things if they get out of hand. At least, thats how i perceive it. Next week ill get to use it with my rig, but i can already tell its going to be a keeper. Its not a major effect, just something that will sit there on all the time. Definitely taken over from the BDDI for now.
  25. Thanks for the reply. The buzz sort of goes away with a higher action, but if i strike each string with more force it will come back at that one point if that makes sense. I play with a pick which seems to make it worse. it seems to only be there at the attack part of the note, it doesn't happen once the string is ringing. . I agree, it sounds like an uneven fret, either 5th or 6th, so ill need to put some straight edges on them. ive never had this happen on just the one string before.
