  1. Hmmm, Less than £200 and not that horrible wood colour https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ASHDOWN-B-SOCIAL-75-WATTS-MULTIPURPOSE-AMP-BLACK/223046225182?hash=item33ee974d1e:g:H2YAAOSwrRJbPdCu
  2. Not according to some on here 😉 Back to the topic. I find the pedal that makes the most difference to my ears is my BDDI, but id say the one that would get noticed is my Phaser. Im over using it a bit at the moment though, as it fill out our mix really well.
  3. Hold on, i thought the crowd were incapable of noticing the bass player's tone 🙂
  4. Ah cool. Ill let him know. Strange that Asdown didnt tell him this on the phone though. Having just read the thread about these i can see even £250 isnt that great compare what they were going for. Id be quite tempted if it was one of the other colours, but i dont like the one in the link.
  5. I know someone who got one from this seller. He is more than happy with it for what it is, a practice amp. One issue he had is the wireless part didn’t work. Apparently after so many months of not being used they transmitter will need to be re-paired with the amp. There is no easy way to do it, no paring button. He ended up taking it to Ashdown to get this done, although he said that was because the guy that knew how to do it wasn’t there at the time he called, and he doesn’t live far from them. Yes, they are genuine Ashdown amps.
  6. I have emailed Line6 but not heard back yet. I have a feeling ill end up supergluing the plate back in and keeping a cable tie around it. I used it all day yesterday (tapped up)and it still works fine, so i think ill just have to live with the slight inconvenience. its not a write off yet.
  7. Totaly disagree with that, but each to his/her own (except the bit about the Damned, they were the stars of the evening).
  8. After reading so many negative things about the door, mine has been 100% reliable for a few years......until tonight. I got my strap out of the bag and the transmitter door just fell off in to 3 pieces. Looks like the metal plate supports have broken. I can put it all back together again but there is nothing keeping it together unless i tape it etc. I know its been asked before but did anyone ever get thier door replaced? Ive found the part number for the door itself, but the postage will be way more than the door if i get it from the USA, and it’s only the plastic door itself anyway, so no guarantee the metal plate will just clip back on. Im aware of the workarounds, but I’d rather get it fixed properly.
  9. Oh a whim recently i brought a TCE Helix (phaser). Haven't owned a Phaser since the early 80's, and never for bass. i thought id use it on one song, maybe two. Instead ive found it brings the bass to life and i soooooo over use it. Other than that, i guess my Fender Sandblasted P bass has been a huge hit. Until i got it i had been putting my Squier CV Jazz neck on my P basses, as i dont really like P necks as much. I was apprehensive about buying another P bass, but i found the neck to be just perfect. Ive not given it another thought since the first play.
  10. I just find it a safety net when recording my band. I try and set the levels low enough so that the limiter doesn’t kick in, but as I’m down to 3 out off 100 and still there is a lot of level it’s nice to have. When I get the files in to Audition they don’t seem clippped or maxed out, so I guess its all good.
  11. Interesting about the SPL factor on the Zoom units. While my Tascam does really well I have the input level set at 3/100 and even then I use the limiter function to stop it overloading. This is just a 4 piece in a med sized room. My old Edirol RH recorder has a mic atanuation button that really helps keep things under control as far as level input goes. That’s the one and only feature I miss from it. I’m not sure if using the input level so low effects quality, it doesn’t seem to, but it shows that this thing isn’t great for the exact thing they advertise it for.
  12. Or any compact cab really. I had one of those and couldn’t find a place to wrap it around on my rig. Evened up giving it away on here Same goes for this, although I do use it occasionally
  13. Been around for ages. Not cheap and doesnt seem to be too popular. http://bassmute.com/
  14. VPN's are also good for getting around Youtube geographical restrictions. I used to think there were a lot of YT videos that wouldn't play until i started using a VPN. Also good for getting around websites that are blocked by your ISP.
  15. Very Probably Nigerian.....i think 🙂.
  16. For some its Spend a fortune on boutique basses i need, because i cant play on anything other than hand built basses, but never leave the bedroom with them, so spend more money on basses that im happy to take to gigs (and amazingly, i can play them)
  17. Ive not really read much about these but this seems a steal. Almost less than half price and its the limited edition version. Includes a built in wireless system https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/B-Stock-Ashdown-B-Social-Wood-75W-Stereo-Amplifier/292617311563?hash=item442159d54b:g:Ce4AAOSw5cNa~Uhf
  18. Came out yesterday morning. So thats two things you didnt notice yesterday. Works well. I already had the Apple kit so had a play last night. Not much use for it to be honest but its a big step up form the old version.
  19. I always record everything we do. That way i have real evidence to back up any comments i make. They might not be the right comments, but at least i can show what im talking about and then everyone can decide. It works especially well with fast drummers IME.
  20. Just a heads up. Not tired it yet with a pedal but it looks interesting. I know there are some beta testers around so hopefully they might chip in with any tips and tricks. At least it seems like it doesn't check for on line content when its started. That was a real pain when i didn't have a connection as it mean i couldn't use the app.

  21. A few shots of the Darkenss.
  22. null Yeah. The audio isnt great in this but i only had an old camera with me. Not too sure how to share video from Smugmug. Hope this works.
  23. Went to see the Hollywood Vampires / The Darkness / The Damned last night. Fantastic gig, although i was surprised that the Damned were my highlight of the night. I didn't realise how 'rock' they are. i also thought they had the best sound fo the night, but they aosl only had 1 guitar so the mix was cleaner. Although i saw the Darkness on their first tour i was disappointed with them last night. Cant stand Justin's voice any more (2nd rate Geddy IMO), but what annoyed me was the amount of guitar changes.Every song involved a guitar change, either one or both guitars, yet it all sounded the same out front. I guess they are just living the dream. Hollywood Vampires were surprisingly good, considering i haven't listened to any of their original stuff. Johnny Depp's version of Heroes was really good. His voice is good, although bland. Enjoyed the Alice songs, loved their version of Schools out/Another brick in the wall.
  24. and what if you want a different tone, or have just got the FX and are still looking for the 'right' tone? What if you find (for example) a filter sweep is way too deep on that boomy hollow stage and needs backing off, or the room is so bright your carefully set up distortion sound is way to bright. Just leave it? The Helix doesn't look like it has a lot of real time control, especially if you are trying to balance 2 or 3 effects at the same time. Even the Zoom B3n seems to have more. I have no experience of the Helix, im just going by the photo in this thread. A 'live' situation doesn't just mean during a gig, it can easily cover sound checks and even setting up. I hate seeing musicians bending down and fiddling with things, especially during songs, but if something is wrong with the tone during the gig then i just find it easier to have real time control of everything so i dont take longer than needed. In over 800 function gigs over the past 15 years believe me when i say i have never kept anyone waiting between songs. What is the difference between 'getting it wrong' and trying to get it right? By that i mean how can you get it right without turning the knobs until it is right? The way a lot on here go through pedals could show that maybe more tweaking is needed. Of course then there are those with pedal boards so large they spend all night doing a River Dance impression.
  25. I like tech, so im fine with digital stuff. Im not sure i could tell the difference between analogue and digital anyway, and i think there is too much stigma attached having old or vintage gear, i dont fall for any of that emperors new clothes syndrome. Saying that, i do like an easy life, and having the ability to tweak my settings in a live environment is a bigger issue than if its digital or analogue. So for me, id happily gig with all digital, but i must have easy access to the most important parameters. So far that would leave out the multi FX boxes. My board includes 3 TC Electronic boxes and an SA Aftershock. All digital but with knobs. i like that. i dont care how the sound is processed, as long as i can fiddle with it easily.
