Thanks mate but i think ill forgo the wooden ones for now. I think you mentioned those Dava picks in another thread, and i did get a pack of them. I have been using them since but want to try some thicker picks. Ive also got some Wedgie 3.1 rubber picks arriving next week. Ill have another look at the Dava range if the Wedgies dont work out. I did get a pack of Jazz 3 carbon picks that were so small after 5 second i gave them to my son. -
The guys clearly sates he is looking to start a band, so why would he provide mics for everyone? Where do you get the idea he wouldn't have a mic? He says if others have a microphone.

it was a lovely bass, but i had (still have) a Squier CV Jazz which i love the tone of, and the DJ5 was just not that tone. Even with a pup change (Nordy's) and the PJ conversion it sounded too warm for me. That was back then though. listening to live recordings of it i made a bad decision getting shot of it. No GAS for basses these days though, so im happy to talk about them 🙂 -

Wooden ones are/were next on the list, but if they wear down quickly maybe not. -

Very nice. my first encounter with Lakland was a 55-01. I had never heard of them before but saw about 10 of them in the Bass Centre when i was out looking to get my first real gigging 5 string. I got this over a Sandberg. It was a nice bass and my first time gigging with a 5 string. I had three Duck Dunn's over the years, and a DJ5 that i got converted to a PJ. I really didnt get on with the DJ5 though, but wish i had kept it. i found the DJ5 to be a bit dark and warm, which wasnt what i was looking for at the time. -

99% pick player but trying to get away from the 'click' and thinner sounding G string. Having a bit of an experimental period at the moment. I recently got some felt picks, which i love the tone of, but are a bit slippery to hold. And yeah, maybe i should just practice with my fingers more 🙂 Love Laklands. Ive had 4 in total, but never a USA one. I even have a JO4 neck at home that i sometimes put on my Fender style basses. -

Ah Nuts, I’m out. Just ordered a packet of leather plectrums. Never used one before and fancied a go. -
Ped. I know you posted a phone screen shot, but if you go to their website it tells you where the item is in stock (warehouse in Sweden). Also i would assume no matter where it is they give you a delivery date so you can choose to buy or go elsewhere. Pretty all up front IMO, but frustrating nonetheless. Been using them for years without too much hassle, and certainly less hassle than ive had from music shops in the past. They are always my first port of call for something (if Amazon dont have it) My issue with supporting brick and mortar stores is it needs to go both ways. If im shopping with you, make it worth it. I understand shops have rents etc, but so do i, and like a shop, want to make the most of my limited funds. ive tired to buy from PMT at Old street a few times. each time ive gone in its been a case of 'we have it at our other branch, we can get it in for you'. I might as well just order on line rather than get a shop to order it for me. Saves me making another trip. EDIT: Oppps, sorry, didnt see a page two to this thread. Seems like it was pointed out about location.

GK MB800 DI stopped working, or maybe never did. GK want me to get it working. Less than 3 years old, hardly used. Also had issues at gigs with it not producing any noise for first 10mins. Wouldn't trust it at a gig anymore. MarkBass F1. Brought second hand off here many years ago. Never had any issues with it in over 500 gigs. I dont have this now, but Epifani UL212. Terrible quality. within 6 weeks of owning it, from new, a handle fell off at gig, had to replace both drivers and on one gig had to use gaffa tape to get one of the drivers working. Never gain.

I can imagine it will get in the way when you decide to run around and trip over it lol. Comedy gold though :-). No ban on getting a new band.....I’d love one 😞 On the gear front, ive got no GAS at all for any music related gear at the moment. -

Sorry, only just seen this. a bit late i know. -
Grace Jones and Bjork spring to mind, although i have another word for these voices....:-)

Pretty much spot on.

Totally get what you mean Dribble is her middle name. Never got why she is so popular, although its seems she is more ‘hip’ than popular. Bland self indulgent wailing springs to mind.

Ive just got my first felt picks, and love the tone. None of that ‘clicky’ pick attack. The problem is they are very thick and hard to grip. Just looking for recommendations for alternatives. Soemthing a bit easier to grip and get soem speed up with. Ive heard that leather picks also give a similar tone, so maybe those will also work. These are whai have now. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01N5OYNMT/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Ive been there many times. Although I always do as much home work as possible, and get to know the songs as well as i can, its hard to predict how each band interprets songs live. A covers band i used to dep with regulary used to change things all the time, so yes, ears and eyes were just as important as knowing the songs. in fact I’d go as far as to say i was the only one that did know how the songs were supposed to go. All good fun though and i too preferred to do this over playing with my own band. Saying all that, we recorded all the gigs, and although we always went down well and had a great time, on listening back we would sometimes wonder how we got away with things.

This mirrors my experience. Over the years ive brought effects but hardly ever gigged them because i was too lazy to hook stuff up etc. This all changed when i got a small pedal board for Christmas though. Having it all pre wired meant i started taking the pedals out with me, and then of course all hell broke loose and i started buying loads of the blo**dy things. Im already on the second board as the first got filled instantly. Saying that, i have 9 new (this year) pedals in a draw, and only 3 (also new this year) on my board. I guess it takes time and a bit of money to find what really works. The one thing that kicked all this off is i have always used a wireless system, so i always have at least one more thing to plug in. if i didnt use that i doubt id use pedals at all.

The bridge is a Hipshot Supertone. https://hipshotproducts.com/products/supertone-gibson-bass-replacement-bridge?variant=33244555720 Its direct replacement, no adjustments needed to the bass other than the action etc needing setting up. Nothing wrong with the stock bridge, but i like black hardware and this bridge also allows individual string height adjustment. The bass has been out for over 20 years so plenty of reviews about. Im not much good at writing them im afraid. Ed Friedland amongst others have reviewed this and do a much better job than i could. What i will say is its a pretty unique tone, but seems to fit in with most styles. The selector switch really does make a difference, and ive found using the second and third settings give me a nice slightly compressed 70's rock tone, all without any fx. In fact this type of tone control has shown me i should have it in my P bass as well, so thats on the cards next month. Like Josie i found the neck to be surprisingly playable. I dont like fat wide necks but the JCB isnt wide at the nut, and just feels very comfortable in the hand. Not a fast neck, but i like that it makes me play with more attention and accuracy. I got mine after watching the Stone Roses documentary a few times and decided i wanted to try that tone out. until two days before getting it (Very good deal from Andertons on this) it was a bass i had no interest at all in. i got this one over the black as it came with a gig bag, and it was actually cheaper at the time. There is something about it that i just cant gel with, but that might just be because i love, or amy more used to my P bass. its certainly a keeper though and im hoping i find more use for it.

ive always had a comp first (after tuner), Pre amp (BDDI mostly), dirt stuff, then chorus/phaser. i couldn't get my head around having an amp with a comp in it, as that puts it right at the end of the chain. Since i recently put my TCE Spectradrive last in the chain (and taken the BDDI off), this also means the comp is last. So far i find the comp more useful there. Although im not using filters it seems to even things out about when i engage the various effects.
