  1. One of the changes I made to my 'dream spec' on visiting, was abandoning my desired neck measures and going with John's standard carve - fractionally deeper than I thought I wanted .. but the reality of getting an example of it in my hands on site, changed my mind. If you're beating yourself up over 1st and 12th fret neck depth, I'd say the actual carve - the incline of the shoulders, etc, plays as much if not bigger part in how you'll feel and connect with the instrument, and that's a hard element to articulate without actually handing over an existing neck. Conscious I've designed a dozen basses in my life with varying degrees of success, whilst John has designed 1000's, so if there's any elements you just can't make a definitive call on - lean into the luthier's experience and let them guide you.
  2. RL related, don't think I've shared on here before. About 10yrs ago a very thoughtful relative wrote to Rick , knowing I was a fan and asking for a signed photo for my birthday. Rick had a professional photographer career post Mahavishnu, but took a lot of photos then. He sent this signed pic back, one he'd taken mid gig. Has pride of place in the bass room..
  3. Great Rick Laird quote - ‘my main job in MO wasn’t playing bass it was counting’ Edit - it’s from the exhaustive biog of the band ‘Power, Passion & Beauty’. Written by an enthusiastic fan, worth a read if you love the band
  4. Bought 4 string Rithimic new, great build and beautiful neck. The Barts were pretty anaemic though, main reason I eventually moved it on. Could be wrong but thought the Jeff / Cort endorsement had ended, and new basses weren’t being built anymore.

    lube.

    Insert own lube joke here
  6. One of the reasons I went custom was getting a J neck on a P.. If you’re looking at a used Shuker, bear in mind you’re getting someone else’s ‘dream’ bass they’ve decided to move on. Wouldn’t buy it without playing it first.
  7. Shuker PJ5 in Kent here, neither the bass you're after nor local - but thought would chip in with general Shuker comments. Excellent luthier and IMO well priced, plenty of fans on here. John super accomodating - would 100% recommend you visit before finalising. Meet and discuss in depth, pick your woods etc. I made some major choices on the visit I wouldn't have made remotely, subsequently got none of the build wrong. Also Hope Valley stunning part of the country to visit..
  8. Amazed this hasn’t happened before on here, such a great idea.
  9. For all the moan about retailers site experience, the weakest link in chain will always be the courier.
  10. To those owners - what is battery life like, and how long for full charge. Also does it allow thru charging ?
  11. Im in Beckenham Steve (although did live near Dungeoness for years @Mykesbass ) Close enough to Session in Basingstoke but not sure it’s going to be economically viable to repair. I’ve dropped them an email.
  12. Got my Sessionette 100 4x10 out of the loft and it's not working.. needs some TLC. Has a sentimental pull, first proper amp and saw alot of action. But.. day to day won't get gigged by me, and looking at resale values it looks like a write-off to repair. Give free to a new home, or take it up the tip. Any ideas? ☹️
  13. Don’t mind the BD site, possibly just used to it. Definitely way ahead of the ‘other’ main independent, Bass Gallery site - almost no info on any bass. Bought and sold lots through both over the years though..
  14. Went to sold out gig 5 weeks ago, 2000 capacity definitely all there. Tentatively showed up to sold out gig Friday night, 1,100 tickets sold - 30 people there. Because technically was all paid for, artists there , it all went ahead to the empty venue. Support played 30mins and headliner played 8-9pm, assumed out of contractual obligation. Surreal evening.
  15. Where you are stood in the room is a massive factor. Most of the time I have only a vague idea / hope of how I might actually sound out front.
  16. Ska Revival with a dash of Pub Rock
  17. I guess if JT is your number one player in 2021, he's probably your number one every year regardless.
  18. Been wracking my brains on this but having a slow day. Is it a Scientology thing?
  19. Technically this guy could finish a gig on two strings. Good mental exercise. Spare bass is £100 Harley Benton in the boot, would always be happy to lend this.
  20. I think you can easily make one bass work across genres. I use 5 string PJ with flats on everything from jazz, electronic, pop and metal. Typically - also have rack at home with variety of J / P / MM / Flat / Rounds / Fretless to cover every occasion, but they mainly serve to trap dust.
  21. I do exactly what you’re looking to do on my iPad with photos / screen grabs. Simply create a new album if you need a different order. Really simple solution.
  22. Probably him, was playing Ronnies with Ghost Note
  23. Absolute revelation - thank you @Silvia Bluejay Been an expensive journey, but now have the LaBella low tension B, paired with the other 4 from existing 760FLs.. best flatwound B out there.
