  1. Agreed. I like the way they sound, too, but have to concede they are not immediately impressive. Often, stuff that is impressive on its own has been designed that way for showroom appeal (a reason I think one sees such a large amount of recent, expensive kit for sale - people find it isn't so good in real world conditions).
  2. Seems most makers try to either copy the Fender design/devise something practical or be original. The second approach often results in ghastliness. I prefer it when form follows function - straight string pull, no odd angles, keep it simple.
  3. This +10. Applies not only to bass, but to all instruments. It's how it blends and works with what else is happening that counts. Interesting cross reference to the debate about Markbass cabs going on currently. They work in a band context, even though they may sound a little dull on their own.
  4. Did you lean it against the radiator and melt it?
  5. True, but it's all behind him. Donald Trump is worth a shedload of cash, but that doesn't say a lot about his qualities...
  6. Better to simplify the part and devise something that is musically correct that works in a band context than to play the "right notes but not necessarily in the right order". You can always work on getting closer to the original as time goes by.
  7. Afraid he's a has-been trying desperately to stay in the limelight.
  8. Another Peavey fan here. I think the main reason is that their Black Widow drive units were (can you still get them?) so good. I replaced the crappy Fender drivers in my old Bassman 2x15 cab with them and the improvement was massive. When I got my TE AH350 in the 80s, the sound of it with the cab was fabulous. Bulky and heavy rig, but wonderful sound.
  9. As a drive unit is a drive unit and a watt is a watt, I suspect you'll be fine...
  10. Appreciate that, but I find it simpler to have one of each.
  11. I feel your pain. To be fair, they aren't all like that. I know of two blues jams locally to me which are run by good musicians where the backline amps for guitars are small (30w or so) and most people can actually play. There are the inevitable duffers who show, but they do their two party pieces and are tolerated with good humour.
  12. Why are you in a band with a plonker like hat? Suggest you leave immediately.
  13. I have a Mex PJ and it doesn't really do the heavy, thick P bass sound. An approximation of it, but not quite the same. It's very versatile, however and does J tone as Marc says.
  14. I never speak to guitar players unless absolutely necessary, so wouldn't have bothered me
  15. Why try to make a J more like a P when you already have a P? Horses for courses and all that.
  16. Me too. Fusion often have special offers, too, so you may save money.
  17. As most basses are fretted, the majority of us needn't worry about the difference between C# and Db because there ain't one for our purposes.
  18. True. They wouldn't hear you anyway if you used it at a gig.
  19. He did indeed. Also "look and sound like a real pro", which is even more hilarious.
  20. Good to see it's made from a wood that's "highly prized for its tonal qualities". Will make all the difference when you play it with your ear jammed against it...
  21. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Peavey-Bandit-Bass-Amp-Speaker-Combo/253409005855?hash=item3b005a911f:g:N5kAAOSwtBdadwLk Any takers? Will last you for your "bass playing lifetime" apparently...
  22. Shallow Gator rack case. They come in 2 or 3 u.
  23. Of course, hence my comment that I'm not criticising the fact that people like that effect. But it isn't accurate. If you want to know what your bass sounds like, route it via a good quality DI into your mixing desk and listen on good quality headphones. It can be surprising.
  24. If you can find one (or more), the Ampeg SVT210HE does the classic Ampeg sound in a relatively compact format. Much better than the 210AV.
