    In my early stingray days I had all controls up full (2eq), then wondered why it didn't sound that good. Made a massive difference turning them down to halfway then tweaking.

    I started on guitar for a couple of years then tried bass and never looked back. Just felt right and much preferred the sound

    This does sound like the overall volume is way too loud. I play in a noisy punk covers band with two guitarists churning out open/power chords (one on his bloody lead channel, but that's beside the point) and an 'enthusiastic' drummer. Had various amp/cab combinations but never had volume past halfway

    Once for me, the G string, typically during the biggest gig of my life playing a stadium supporting Bryan Adams (In my old band, we only got the gig through luck) Being a cocky young lad I had no back up and no spare strings, blagged my way through the rest of the song then managed to blag a spare bass off the roadies! Can't remember what bass it was but it was tuned down a half step, felt weird aiming for the fret above for the rest of the gig.

    Does anyone else go completely blank when asked to play 'something'? I have that brief second of feeling like I've never even seen the instrument before. In a band situation I'm completely different though.
