Reckon I'll be sticking with my Cube 100 for those smaller gigs!

I went today - and was very disappointed. tried 2 PJB combos - a 2 speaker one and a 4 speaker one. To be honest - my cube 30 was better than both and my cube 100 knocks them into a cocked hat. Nearly bought........... A Dean 8 string - GREAT price A G & L relic - early first series bass - loads of punch An Epiphone Allen Woody But managed to resist them all. I got peed off at the Zoom stand (love zoom fx) cos they've bought out a big geetar multi fx but not a bass one. Really narked cos I missed someone out of 'Muse' doing autographs. Food wasn't to 'rip offey' this year with a pastie for £2.50 parking has gone up to £8 Had a result buying 4 tickets off a tout for a fiver each ....result! And renewed my subscription to BGM No Peavey Boss stall wass tiny No Bass Centre - so no warwick or Markbass Bergantino cabs were AWESOME if not exactly lightweight - saw some dude slapping - and thought it was through a 4x 10 and 2 x 10 - in fact it was thru 2 1 x 12's I'll not go again - I'm sure it was smaller than last year, and last year was smaller than the year before.

I've got a Nemesis 2 x 10 combo that I like a lot - it doesn't like to be clipped though. In Milton keynes if you wanna try it out. May even sell for the right price!!

How loud are these little things? Has anyone got one? Could I keep up with a drummer and guitarist in a trio (using PA support)? Any experiences let me know, Cheers Col

Anybody heard of an 'Asama'? There's one in my local crack converters - original body shape - looks like mahogany, and a P pckup with maple board - The neck is a bit bowed - but should tweak out OK - very unique looking bass! Tempted!

How do you use the 'quote' function? To 'John The Bass' - the biggest reason you need to try imo is that Fenders in particular are notorious for dead spots around the 7th fret on the G string. If you get one with a bad dead spot - there'll be little you can do about it and it may end up niggling you so much you can't live with it. Then there's the cosmetic appeal of the bas - especially if it's a see through colour. If it's been hanging around in a shop - is it scratched? I'd be seriously wary of buying unseen - I'm sure there's thousands of great basses sold mail order, but to me it's such a personal thing I'd be loathe to take the chance!

I guess i should tell you about mine.....it's an 86 MIJ. I bought it as a bit of a dog - stripped and brush varnished - and had it refinished in nitro black - cos I play in a Pink Floyd tribute band!! it's a maple neck with a 4 piece basswood body - which sounds fine but marks easily. The neck is 1 5/8 inch at the nut which is a nice compromise between the jazz and P necks. However - I needed to be able to get a funkier sound for the Levin/Pratt material so I've had a J pup put in the neck position, with a blend switch. She's also got a badass II fitted. The original pickup sounded OK but wasn't immense so in the neck position I've got a Fender 62 reissue, and in the bridge position I've got an overwound Wizard 84. I've had some electrical probs of late, so I've not gigged it with the Wizard in place, but I think it's sorted now and she'll be going for a trip out this weekend! I think you can ponder all you like the different variances on a particular type of bass but at the end of the day, it comes down to individual pieces of wood - Pleeeease don't buy mail order - you gotta try the actual one you're buying first!

Can any one of you guys with a tone pump please draw me out a wiring diagram, as i have a tone pump knocking around in a drawer I'd like to make use of! Cheers

The manual for my Trace 2 x 10 says that it will happily take twice the RMS rated power so long as it is not clipping. problems occur when people clip their amps by driving them too hard - which then shags (technical term!) the speaker. Another example - my PA speakers - Wharfedale Titan 12's are rated at 250 W RMS. Wharfedale recommend using a 500W amp to drive them. Let your ears be the judge - if they start to fart and flap, you're driving them too hard.
