Probably the standard one - but if you want a Great GRAMMA, please post - they are more expensive so I don't know what will happen with those.
I just checked the Sizes. Most of my cabs are mid sized and quite deep. I think I'll have to go for a great gramma. Let me know pricing

Which size are we looking at? I heard they help make home practice less annoying for the neighbours! If so, count me in! I'll pm
+1 Si

I've just bought one of these (Got PMT in Leeds down to approx £420 with 3 year warranty) terror heads, used it for fist time at gig/practice with drummer volume tonight. I eventually got the tone controls right (Treb 2, mid 7, bass 5 assuming 12 to be straight up position). Its pretty good, but too light, as it fell (vibrated) off the top of the cab onto the floor, bending the jack plug as it landed. Unbelievably, I didnt notice for 30 secs or so, as it kept working fine, so build quality must be ok!!! Not sure how to stop this happening again, any ideas?
Man, that's nuts! I think the shuttles are too light personally, but that's crazy that it fell off. Hmm, it must be really loud! Amp on floor, not on cab?!

Excellent work! Corvette next pls

I love the tone of a slapped p bass! It is underrated. I've noticed it also sits well in the mix ESP with flats.

Had a listen to some demos and I think I prefer the Warwick tone. Also, not keen on the boost only Tone Pump.
Are you me in disguise, Gareth? Great bass Lazzer, very good buy IMHO
Ha, I know. I knew it would happen. I sold the P to have two Js, but now the 5 string search didn't work, I'm sticking to what I know I get on with. The new P was at such a good price as I'd ordered the Jazz as well that I thought sod it, may as well

Lots of Super J basses, where are the Super P basses?
Musicman20 replied to NJE's topic in General Discussion
I tried a Fender P Deluxe...the USA model, but it wasn't my thing...it didn't sound like a simple P bass which is what I wanted. P basses don't need anything else. Simple and effective design -
A Couple of Soundclips - Which sounds the nicest?
In what way was it different? Clunkier, smoother etc?
It sounds really smooth, in a good way. I always associate the jazz tone with either the burpy back pickup or the more aggressive, slightly clanky, everything on full tone. Again this could be the different strings I usually hear, not sure. Great thread though. Does anyone know how to record straight into a mac from the rh450?! -
If it's new cabs i'd go aguilar or TC as the berg prices new are very very high!

Thanks for the pick clips! The jazz sounds very different to what I expected! -
Good choice! I have one of these and after regretting selling my other another coming in! Very nice basses.
I would like to hear some comparative reviews too chaps as I fancy having an ultra small amp to tuck in gig bag for some of those gear-sharing gigs we play (I bring the tiny amp head, the other band's bassist brings the enormous 4x12, seems fair!) I would need something with valvey overdrive so was thinking about this, the Genz Shuttle, the new Markbass Little Rocker (naff name!), or going slightly larger, the Orange Bass Terror (I know that won't fit in a gig bag). I once played a SWR combo with valve pre-amp and it sounded really good, hence the Headlite has got my attention.
Clarky, I tested the Genz and I could not get on with the pre tube...sounded thin to me. I would definitely try before you buy with that one. I reckon the lm rocker might be a cool amp if it has a good tubey overdrive emulation.

If it's immaculate, I reckon 850-950. One sold last week for 900 ish. I'd like one myself, but rosewood.

800-830 will get you a brand new USA P Bass non sunburst though.
I've got an MIA Jazz and a 2006 Stingray. Both excellent. Musicman20 is dead right about the Jazz tone. The Jazz is my only passive bass, but is as versatile as any of the basses I own - anthing from growly aggressive rcok to subtle blues and jazz tones. Not sure I agree with his take on the ray, though. I wouldn't describe the tone as middy - in fact, mine has a slightly scooped tone. Great for slap, funk, or sounding like early Flea! Boost the low mids and you're back to a rock tone. Definately a great sound, and I love mine. But it is more of a marmite tone IMO and not as versatile as a Jazz.
I agree as well actually, the ray can def do the scooped slap tone perfectly!

A Couple of Soundclips - Which sounds the nicest?
Musicman20 replied to Linus27's topic in Bass Guitars
Gotta say the bassline is pretty sweet! Nice n musical. I'm also going to finger style more now...not got upto my pick speed yet, but I'm getting there. I realised after listening the Warwick sounds best! -
IMO, they are both excellent. Passive jazz just sounds fantastic, n bridge pickup on it's own is brilliant. The Stingray just sounds like nothing else....massive in your face tone, middy, aggressive, cuts through like a knife. But, stick flats in it, roll back the treble n it's more controlled. I will say this, the new Jazzes are great if you find a good one, very nice instruments. Rays new are expensive, and I'm shocked at the second hand prices. They are coming back into 'fashion', so I'd expect prices to rise for 2nd hand.
look forward to them, thanks for taking the time and trouble. Other than the SR4 i think the other basses would all sound pretty similar in a band situation so i think for me it would come down to feel and playability. How does the Warwick neck feel compared to the Fender?
I sense Warwick GAS! -

Hmmm, have you never been 100% with the tone of the Ray? I have my EQ on the Ray flat, sometimes with a slight treb/bass boost, but they both punch like crazy. Seriously aggressive tone which is the main reason, (and the oval plate) why I wanted one about 12 years ago. Is the ESP active? I'm guessing it's not. Boil the ray strings in water/washing up liquid for 5 mins, rinse thoroughly, then see if that helps? -
How the hell do some people treat their basses?!
Musicman20 replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
I have found that if I have a completely mint instrument (especially an expensive one like my old Shuker JJB) I am so OCD about keeping it fresh and shiny that it actually takes away some of the enjoyment of owning and playing it as I become paranoid about damage. I guess this probably goes back to the pro musician versus dabbler/hobbyist thing, to some extent, as I think of basses as things of beauty and objects to desire. If I was gigging night after night I guess the condition of my basses (and my attitude) would be rather different.
+1 on the OCD. I'm the same. First slight ding is always the worst. I'd quite like a well used vintage that I don't have to worry about. Not abused, just used but worn naturally. I think after the famous P bass swap me Clarky and Nigel did, it's obvious we all care about the instruments rather like they are a piece of art. -

Warwick sounds more lively...nice tone but I think it comes alive more due to strings. Fender sounds different to what I expected...perhaps strings, not sure, but bridge pickup emphasis best. Stingray sounds like it has flats on...no that that's bad at all, just more muted than I'm used to. Rays to me normally just sound hugely aggressive all the time. Light touch, huge response. ESP sounds great...a hidden treasure! Thanks for making them...I like the Warwick more than I expected -
Another topic on basses I know very little about... Can you help? Best b?!
