Aguilar cabs difference between GS and DB?
Musicman20 replied to davidmpires's topic in Amps and Cabs
On the bigger models I think they are the same recessed handles, But on the 1 x12s the DBs use straps, and the GS's use flightcase style handles.
Yep. This is true. I know for a fact the DB212s have the big recessed handles...and they are very effective. The DB112 use straps. I think this was perhaps to keep the internal volume up?! IMO, Aguilar make good cabinets, but their 12s seem to excel. If I had space and a roadie...the DB810 would be mine. Forget Berg NV...those massive Aggie cabs are where it's at -
Aguilar cabs difference between GS and DB?
Musicman20 replied to davidmpires's topic in Amps and Cabs
GS have great lows, slight mid scoop and sweet highs. Carpet covering and solid handles. DB are more punchy in the mids, same low end, sweet highs with great tweet, thicker heavier wood used, fancy tolex and style. Old style strap handles. Slightly heavier I believe and more expensive. The only thing with the tweed is it's not real tweed which is not a massive issue but realy tweed would have been a better option. All good choices IMO. I'm sellng my DBS sadly due to space...but Im probably going to get more Aguilar. The RS 210s are very nice cabinets...I've been following the glowing reports on talkbass. -
Well i'm in drop C tuning, so it's quite deep already. I like a lot of definition but not too bright, I usually roll the tweeters on my cab down a bit. I like the tone flea gets. i've got a GK 1001RB-II at the moment which gets me the sound I like, but its a bit too heavy to carry around everywhere (its in the f/s section)
Hmmm...I would give the rh a try if you can. Flea never seems sizzly to me...more warm and focussed. That's my preferred slap tone anyway...I'm not into sizzly high treble. If you find yourself rolling off tweets, the Genz might be just too hi fi and bright. This is just IMO.
What type of music do you play? I'm in a funk rock band and play a lot of aggressive slap, so I'm not sure if a warm amp is what im after
Hmmm. What slap tine do you go for? Really modern bright and clean = Shuttle More vintage, warm, plenty of punch = RH450 Roughly...

Welcome to the Club dude! Sweet setup. I'm with Clarky...coolest looking amp around. How is that matamp cab?
I'm thinking about getting the RH450 or the Shuttle 9.0, do you know how they compare to eachother? cheers
I had the Shuttle 9.0 for about 48 hours. It had a problem with the chassis, but I still managed to test it. Definitely not for me...no warmth and too clinical for me. Very bright and pingy. Didn't feel that loud. RH450 is opposite...warm, fluid, full, tubey (ish).

Ernie Ball Stingray 5 and Sterling 5 questions
Musicman20 replied to Musicman20's topic in Bass Guitars
I was thinking about the classic ray 5, but with a 5 string I'd like to have the pickup selector switch. The Classic Ray 4 looks perfect...just need to decide on which Ray 5 and which to buy first. I know now after looking at the eb forum the alnico ray is what I'm after. -
Ernie Ball Stingray 5 and Sterling 5 questions
Musicman20 replied to Musicman20's topic in Bass Guitars
This is getting bumped. After failing with a Warwick5 (I just cannot get on with the necks and fret distance) Im going back to the original and more expensive plan. Im trusting EB with yet another bass and hoping it will be awesome. I have three options now one of my Rays has sold. Ray 4 Classic Series, Ray 5 H, Ray 5 HS. Hmmm! Im trying to find some demos of the Ray 5 H vs HS. -
Not overly sure yet, it depends how much I get for the gear I'm selling to pay for it... but at a guess, about £1k. How much do second hand SVT 3 Pro sell for?
You can pick one up quite cheap. If you aren't going full tube, I'd suggest a good warm amp like a little mark 3 with a vt bass or sansamp pedal. That way you have a quality amp with good volume and a near on tube dirt sound.
I've pulled the trigger on one of these as well - should arrive in time for a gig next week Loving the tone on the rehearsal too - I never use flats and have always favoured a very bright tone but I'm definitely mellowing these days. Thinks to self - you have two sets of flats stored away, get them back out & try them on something
Sounds good! I am the same...I find my tone goals are mellowing.
-
Agreed. The most expensive and apparent 'best' might not be for you. I haven't heard a 112x2 or 212 in neo that was as full as ceramic. I still think there is a difference, and even jim berg said with his cabs the ceramics will go deeper and fuller. I've got the email somewhere. Aguilar are fantastic. Berg are fantastic but they are very clear...if you don't want that more clinical tone...Aguilar might be for you. Epifani are all about smooth and deep tones.

Dave Marks MusicMan Masterclass in Essex
Musicman20 replied to Davemarks's topic in General Discussion
I'd like to get to this but would prove pricey to get down. I'm ordering a new Ray soon...either 5 H or 5 HS or Classic Series 4. Would have been good to test them. Can you help with advice on the models as I'm ordering through BM anyway? -
The F1 looks awesome. The price now is also great...I'm very interested in the f1 and f500.

Thanks guys! -
Converge use an Orange AD200b Mk3 amp, with an Ampeg 810. The bass is normally an American Precision....but Ive seen him with Stingrays. Architects use Orange cabs and Orange amps/Ampeg amps. The key is tubes or tube simulation (like Sansamp) If you ask me....Precision + Orange is perfect for hardcore. If ou cant stretch to that....Precision and a Sansamp with a Markbass amp, (just because they take the pedal well and are light )

Hi I use TIs, and they are great! But, what are your recommendations for a 5 string bass? I have seen these: http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/products/15...5_string_43_118
