1.
I'm still in lust with it. I'm thinking of ordering one,SSS with maybe pearl blue finish with a black scratchplate. Drooling just thinking about it!
The Bass Merchant have this one in!
2. Ah that quote wasnt an ASAT, it was their new 'original' style Jazz which is nitro painted, and passive etc etc etc. Those ASATS look great.
3.
Thats terrible news. Very sorry to hear this. The price on your Sandberg seems exceptionally generous. Good luck
Big +1, sad news. I have PM'd you.
4.
I love the Big Al shape, I think it's really lovely. It got a superb review in the latest Guitarist mag too. I would have a White body and maple board and white pearl PG. I love the Precision shape too. The ugly looking Fender bass is the Jazz, the offset design is too ugly and bulbous. The P is great but the neck's too fat, the J neck is a great design. The Big Al neck is too fat like P Bass. The Stingray body is too round. Your shoes are the wrong colour and your stone cladding is sh*t.
Hahah! Ill have to find that Guitarist Mag review. Im thinking of reordering one in White or V Sunburst. White looks stunning I agree.
5. Does it have a hardcase?
6. I can understand people might think the Bongo and Big Al are 'radical', but then again, I dont think boutique basses with expensive exotic wood tops are very nice to look at. I can see why they would be great at what they do, but the whole aesethics just scream 'boring' to me. Apaprently, and Ive no idea how true this is, but the Bongo has been a massive success. I tried one unplugged, and yes the shape is odd, but the quality at the price bracket was phenomenal.
7.
Don't rule out the Tributes. Made in the Far East with US pickups and electrics. Great sound and build quality. Think Lakland Skyline. List is about £600 these days but you can pick one up online for about £450. And they don't weigh a ton.
Thanks. These are the basses made in the same factory as Cort and Lakland aren't they? Weird how Cort and G&L make them at such low prices, then Lakland charge as much as Fender!
8. ASAT looks fantastic! Had a rough quote from the UK dealer.....wow, expensive for a posh-passive Jazz. I bet they are incredibly well made, but its a lot to stump up for an instrument Ive never even seen. We are talking over £2100 retail (ok the stores would be quite a bit below this I realise!).
9. I realise its a strange shape, but Im actually a big fan.
10. Two horns?! Woah.
11. Personally I'd keep it stock and try getting used to it. A light body is something of a rarity
12. Hmm, strange one this. Have you asked on talkbass? Seems weird. Have you tried other basses/cables/everything else?
13. Ah bugger if I was only in London! This is what I was looking for!
14. Just refreshing this thread in advance of thinking about the Big Al vs Reflex. 30th Birthday looming in 6 months and I still cant get the Big Al out of my head! Nice comparison btw, GW.
15. I checked my photos I dont think this is my ex-bass but it still looks awesome
16. Vintage P all the way. I bet 100% you would regret selling it!
17. I'll wait to see the prices. My initial enthusiasm for the Jazz has calmed a little.
18. Is this my old bass?! Mine was sold in a Hiscox case, but the hinges/clasps were all working. If it is, it left me in brand new condition, and looks like it still is.
19. This was an issue on a few RW Jazzes I tried. Ive never picked up a lighter Jazz bass, but the neck did want to go towards the ground. One thing I noticed on Talkbass. Some people have stated the bodies on the RWs are slightly thinner than normal...not much, but might help to aid a lower weight.
20.
Never tried anything except for ernie balls on my five string. I must say I have always loved the sound. What is the difference with using flats? Just curious as I am always willing to try out new stuff. Cheers Thebassman
I'd say a smoother tone, very comfortable on your fingers. Less bite, more thump!
21. Oh my, the USA models are painted in nitro.
22.
these jazz style ones look awesome!! Why isnt there a proper UK dealer for the US made G&L's?? It would be great to try some of these models out and i'd more than likely buy one!!
I know the Bass Merchant have them on their site (not the USA models) but I assume you can get a quote and order one. They do look fantastic....if they are reasonable prices im very interested as you can customise them a little with different options.
23. I grew up seeing these basses, yet I barely see any here in the UK. What do these basses sound like? Comfort/feel/quality/etc. I realise they are not Rays, so the buckers sound different. I like the look of the Jazz type basses they do, and the double bucker basses, (ASAT shape is great!). Just found one of my favourite colours as well, sonic blue Jazz http://www.glguitars.com/instruments/USA/b.../JB/enlarge.asp What can you tell me about them? Im just curious at the moment, and still considering what I can get for my 30th which is 6 months away still. Ive decided not to go custom and just get something different and more exciting. I darent try buy a vintage Fender as im too picky. Cheers
24.
I'm using a Stingray with Labella flat wounds and an Aguilar DB 750 with two GS 112 NT. It's a fairly light wieght rig that has a real punch to it!
Flats on Rays is GREAT!
