1. It seems the UK have just got another shipment of the short Mono GS1 straps. I've been waiting since around March for this. I know Mono make great kit already, but for a strap, this thing is unreal! Very VERY well made, and nicely padded. Im looking forward to using it. Check em out! Only £29.95 from Strings Direct...
2.
Pics tonight. ill take a couple as it came but hoping my black PG will fit so ill get some of those as well. I might even put a tort on it if ti fits. I had one of these on my old black HW-one P and it looked pretty good. I do think this bass looks more robust than the MIA. The lack of gloss might help but ti looks very road worthy. Jazz basses eh? who'd have thought i would go back to these after the past few years of not liking them. Then again, im already thinking of a P body for this neck, but thats next year sometime. Oh, and another coincidence. I was also using my Behringer BDI21 last NYE. After not using ti for a while and getting a Sadowsky DI recently im now getting rid of that and going back to the BD21 (hopefully a BDDI). so, in effect i had my ideal tone last NYE and its taken me money and 7 months to realise that.
Ive tried new things and gone back to what I know! Seems to happen quite a lot on here. Thank god youve not lost a lot of money realising it.
3. I keep hearing how good the GB 212T is....I need to hear one to decide.
4. Ah if this was 4 ohms, I'd buy it. Fantastic kit, love these cabs!
5. TE heads weigh as much as some cabinets!
6.
No. I love Sadowskys, F-Basses, MTD's and such but realistically a lot of them trend as flavour of the week a lot of the time and I can't see them being a wise investment. A Fender is a good investment due to it's timeless design and the likelihood that a good Fender from the early 50's to the very late 70's will never stop going up in price. Most boutique basses depreciate massively in value very quickly, just like a new Aston Martin or the newer Ferrari's.
Big plus 1. I'd love a boutique bass, but I can't see them having that charm of an old Fender. I agree in addition that boutique basses tend to be all about flavour of the month. I do like Sadowsky, but I won't buy one as they just don't look that special to my eyes. Plus, I thought their customer service was a little rough round the edges. The Metros are pretty much mass produced now.
7. Nice! If you ever want a straight sale I might look into this.
8.
I can't believe this still hasn't gone! If you watch the youtube videos of someone comparing a P bass copy to a Fender one you always know which is which. Fender Precision tone is incredibly distinctive, simple bass or I dont think you can imitate it 100%. I've never tried a high end version though, not a lot to improve now fender have upped the quality since 2008.
Cheers dude!
have pm'd with interest... (I want it, but...)
Replied
9.
Im starting to make inroads into my 40s now and the old Trace stuff is doing me in. I am looking for a lightweight amp and a 4x10 cab. I play in a function band playing usual functiony type stuff (bit of everything) and a blues rock band which requires more dynamic/loud playing. Suggestions and recommendations would be welcomed. I will be buying from Darren at Bass Merchant as he is top bod and only 20 mins up the road from me. Budget approx £1200k Thankyou.
Agreed, Darren is a top chap! Markbass Little Mark 3? 4x10 wise...hmmm. Even the neo 4x10s are stilly fairly heavy. Have you though about two manageable 1x12s? They pack a wallop, if you get something high end like Aguilar GS or DB.
10. Spent too much, but nowhere near as much as my friends who are car fanatics.
11. Fender make the best original style Jazz basses for the price. If you want something more modern and a little different, Id try Sandberg. Never got on with the Lakland QC issue....gave up trying to buy one. They can be VERY heavy.
12. I think some people associate a decent amount of bass with 'boom', eg those who like squeaky clean tight bass guitar tones. The BT is one hugely powerful and awesome amp. I dont own one but I tested it. Fantastic amp, and great dirt if you want it.
13. That HB combo looks alright, but the amp itself looks super super cheap/tacky. But you get what you pay for. I bet its great as a backup.
14. RS210 - nice treble extension, tight bass, very good price, and good resale value.
15. Cheesiest and shittest name for a bass cabinet: Genz Benz 'Uber' bass cabs. Probably sound great, and they look great! Genz do seem to be stuck in a rut with their actual aesthetics. I reckon if they got a designer in, to do it more slick, they could sell a lot more. Basically, make the new Shuttle look like an Apple product (eg slick and/or white).
16. Nice setup! Im looking forward to seeing these in the flesh and trying one out.
17.
22 fret neck, with a thinner profile, rather than a Stingray's 21 fret thicker neck. Smaller body, of course. A ceramic magnet pickup, rather than the Stingray's alnico magnet pickup.
This is it. Sound wise? Sterling's sound more modern/hi fi. Stingray all the way for me!
18.
I made a rather rash and impulsive purchase a couple of days ago; I was in a shop in Leeds trying out different basses, and after playing many Fenders, Sandbergs and an Ibanez ATK I picked up a Stingray. I've never played one before (I did have a cheap copy as my first bass, but that was terrible) and I was blown away by the feel, sound, articulation, build quality and, most of all, the range of tones available from that one pickup! It can be tight and snappy or warm and loose, simply depending on where you place your right hand, but it always maintains that incredible growl. Then add in the EQ and there's such a massive range of tones there. Also, the neck is quite fat, but so comfortable and fast - it just fills the hand beautifully. I hadn't planned on buying a bass that day... but well, it had to be done. I tried out 5 of them, including a five string, and a Sterling (which I didn't really like the feel of - the body was too small for me), and I picked my favourite. After thinking that they were overpriced (as they look quite a 'simple' bass when compared with others in their price range), I am now a complete convert! Anyway, sorry about the terrible iphone photo - a friend has my camera at the moment.
I now have the 2EQ version of this bass on its way, albeit it with the normal natural headstock. I love this colour on a Ray....great quality.
19. Nice...this is perfect for what I wanted a few weeks ago. Ive now got a lot on at work , thankfully for more money, so Im thinking of just having my originals band and thats it. If this is still here and things change, id be tempted!
20.
I think i now have the best rig. End thread. It sounds AWESOME.
Lol, does the amp weigh twice as much as the cab?! Nice.
21. On a positive note, Ive recently realised despite what people might think about the forums here or in the US, EBMM know how to make a high quality, US built instrument. I compared the EBMMs to a few other manufacturers the other day, and the cheapest bass, the 2 band Ray, was actually the highest quality and lightest weight. Even more so than the Sadowsky Metro I tried! Shock horror.
22.
What colour did you go for?
I didn't want the cheaper black/red/blue ones, plus I wanted the proper case with it. Highly padded bags are great but I don't use them for storing my basses, just for rehearsals when car space is low. So, I've got what I've always wanted. a Stingray 2EQ in Vintage Sunburst with black plate and rosewood board. EBMM sunbursts and natural finishes are quite expensive but after seeing a sunburst the other day, it HAD to be mine I'll have a comparison video on my to do list now.
23.
Thomann Promethean anyone?
Wow! Mega cheap.
24. Sorted a good price, arranging for 2eq order right now.
25. Hmm I seem to be finding that the 2EQ models I want are actually MORE expensive than some of the 3EQs, and the 3EQs have cases. Im not talking about the offer basses at £999 here. Im actually trying to stay away from black even though a Ray looks great in black. I bet ill end up with 2 3EQs!
