1.
are you getting one of the special offer black/rosewood 2EQs or paying more for a vintage sunburst with case? btw, just seen this and thought of you and the whole white/tort thing http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp...L_SB2White.html seriously you need to try an SB-2 someday if you haven't already. This time last year I had a USA SB-2, an MIA 08 blizzard pearl Precision Std and a MIM classic 60s white/tort Jazz all at the same time. The G&L was better than both the Fenders at their respective sounds imo and even though the fenders were both great basses I got shot of both of them and didnt miss them at all (the SB-2 had been factory modded with a tone control). Then this year I inexplicably sold the SB-2 which was the dumbest bass sale I ever made. I'd seriously love another and the blue Tribute SB-2 that has just come up FS on here has given me the first bout of serious GAS in ages
I'm hoping for a quote on the burst but if it's too much I'll be getting a black/rosewood. That SB2 is lovely but I'd need that tone control,
 2. Going for a 2EQ once a quote has come through.
 3.
This thread is the future of selling basses. I wish everyone (me included) would make a video like that, first class job, and a first class bass.
Thanks!
 4.
Where was i when all this was going on lol. I had considered this exact model as a replacement for my MIA but even though the nut is not as wide as my Ray34 i still think its too much of a gamble. Good luck with whatever you end up doing.
Hhaha. I went through a bit of a possible change about with basses last week. After playing this again this weekend, Im very tempted to keep it. I cant decide so ill just leave it for sale and see what happens.
 5. Looks good, I miss that cab. Contemplating getting another!
 6. With mine, Ive recently had it set flat. Maybe roll back the treble a little, and take the horn off the cab completely.
 7.
Oh dear thats what I thought you would say once you tried one! EBS_freak had a loan of one (1978 firglo, Gorgeous!)both of us tried gigging with it but I cant imagine anyone from the Fender/MM camp getting used to it,Sure I have a good rig and is anyone going to suggest EBS_freaks rig is below standard here? but why should you have to rely on the rig for a great sound? Flat, weak and lifeless (Is that a hair product advert?).It had a ridge all the way down either side of the neck where they appear to of made the fretboard too wide for the neck and slapped it on anyway,No good for slapping ,No good for muted swing style,Bits of metal in the way everywhere,Sticks in your arm even more than a slab body pre EBMM as the edges are sharp rather than rounded like my pre.Looks brilliant and if money was no object I would of bought it anyway as the price was quite good too but certainley not for me im affraid and for someone like you that has had objections to QC and limitations of instruments before I think it was a none starter.
Too true. I noticed poor fret work as soon as I picked it up. That metal pickup cover looks great, but stops you enjoying the instrument.
 8. Good idea Lojo, but it might cost you more. Ive heard reports that the standard RS210 puts out a little more ommphh due to the fact you lose some internal cab space with that slot. Glad you are enjoying it. How is the finish holding up?
 9.
I used it at a wedding gig last night and it was an absolute joy; despite only having it a couple of days it was amazingly easy to play - I feel like I've owned it for years! I'm completely set up for that band now - my p-bass does all the motown and soul numbers, while the ray handles the funk and disco!
Glad you are enjoying it. The necks are lovely.
 10.
I've got a Kramer DMZ4001 american made bass in blck with seymour duncan p and j pickups. It dates to late 1979. I'm looking to swap it for an American made Precision,if your interested.
Hi Thanks for the offer, but ill give it a miss. Thanks for the interest.
 11. The new Jazz pups (2008 onwards) are flat to the pickup, as are the P pups.
 12.
Hmm... I didn't get to try a 2EQ, as they only had 3s in the shop
They are both nice. I wouldnt say the 3 is an upgrade, just more to it, and therefore slightly more modern sounding. Personally, I can see a place for both of them. Enjoy!
 13. Cheers guys. Ill stick with what I have unless a really nice vintage P bass ever comes along.
 14.
I notice that you already have a couple of current production precisions. Have you thought of trying a 62 reissue? They are great basses and I find mine so much better than the standard offering. However, I also have a Lakland DJ4, and if the Glaub is as good a precision as the DJ4 is a jazz, then it's well worth checking out. All the best in your quest!
A 62 was on the cards! Thanks. Id need to try one out first, so we shall see.
 15. Thanks for the input. Im sticking with Fender again. Why? Well I realise I must be unlucky, and/or the stock Ive tested has faults, but I yet again tested a fair few yesterday. Disappointed Very heavy, especially the 5ers (all 3 of them), bad fret dressing, binding coming off (DJ5), marks where they installed the neck, etc. Shame really. They look great, but once I got up close, I realised Fender must have taken note of their sales dropping off, and hence the new Fenders (and the lovely old vintage Fenders) just seem that little bit better. Im not knocking them. This is the 4th time Ive tried to buy one, so I must like them. I just dont think the latest one are very consistent.
 16. PS nice choice. Im thinking of getting a 2 band as well as my incoming 3, and thats the colour I wanted. Classic!
 17. I have to admit, yesterday I tried all sorts of high end kit. Including a Rickenbacker 4003, some Sadowsky Metro's and a few 'new' Laklands (and a second hand one). There was a 2 band Ray hanging up, and ive never tried a 2 band. You know what? It was the best instrument I played ALL day. Thats including the Metros. The build quality was just outstanding. Amazing paint job, clean neck join, no problems with the frets, lightweight. I loved it. The neck just felt 100% right. If you ask me, EBMM are some of the highest quality mass produced instruments out there. Looking at the back of the Metro basses, the plastic covering for the active electronics looked so 'wrong' and unclean for an instrument with a value of £1600-1700+ I just couldnt believe it. Basschat gives the old Ray a fair bit of bashing, and they SHOULD hold their value a lot more than they do. I just think the build, sound, and feel along with that huge sound is something to be admired.
 18. Cheers guys. Once we have basic recording ill put them up. Probably be a while and writing and gigging like mad is our aim at the moment. I do have a friend who can record great 'first demos' for absolutely nothing, and they sound fantastic.
 19.
not very well known outside hardcore punk circles, but this guys runs are so mental that i'm guessing he must have been a guitarist before playing bass.
Man this is good tech bass though. That kind of punk always sounds good with a mentally fast bassline and standard guitar parts.
 20. I hate good guitarist who try to play the bass like a guitar thinking they are better than a 'mere bassist'. Cannot stand it...no feel, or rhythm.
 21. Tried one today in Soundslive as I was passing. Oh heck, not my thing at all. Just felt hollow and low on 'ommph'. I think they definitely are a marmite bass. Still look fantastic, but the parts (just by looking at them) are not that great. Stingray 2 Band EQ smoked it...£600 less and just had gobs of tone. I really am stuck in Precision/Stingray/Jazz world im afraid.
 22.
So there I am, rocking away at practice with an AD200B and the Matamp 2x12. The head is moving around the top of the cab a few inches and I pull it back everytime it gets too close to the edge. Mid-song and it stops making any noise...not a whistle. Everything still turned on, lights on, valves glowing as they should. No flashes, no smoke, no funny smells. Changed leads, bass is passive and worked through different amps. Any thoughts? I'm thinking the vibrations maybe loosened something? Good job it was the last song of the practice! Thanks for any help you guys can offer
Jees, it vibrates an AD200b?! How loud are you practicing?! Hmm, not sure. Tried another cab?
 23. My latest originals band has had the same core 3 members since February. We are a great team when it comes to writing. The guitarist plays guitar like Ive never seen. He isnt ultra flash, just VERY good at making songs sound interesting. He is probably one of the most talented guys ive worked with. The drummer is exceptional and exactly what I was looking for. The guitarist went away for a teaching program, but returned ready to continue. We got another guitarist in to keep the band going whilst he left and also join as second guitarist. The second guitarist left recently due to course commitments, which is totally fine. We carried on, found a vocalist/guitarist, tried it. Something wasnt right. I was ready to give up. This was the third time we wrote songs then scrapped them. Another vocalist came along to try out. Click...it worked. He KNOWS how to sing, how to 'act' (eg not stand still if you dont play a guitar/bass as well), and hes a really nice chap. He is also fully available, and willing to help with gig bookings. We wont ever make money, or be a large band, as its underground melodic punk with lots of nice 'tech' parts from all of us. But, it works, and I can tell already that its going to go well. Cannot wait to write more and get gigging. The new vocalist wrote melodies on the spot and brought lyrics he wrote after out first practice with him. So, Im really happy. I feel like im getting on well with them, and we are all after the same thing - enjoyment. We are starting to sound like A Wilhelm Scream crossed with Hot Water Music. I like it...Ive missed playing at ridiculous speeds.
 24.
Hi Musicman20, I have a Lakland USA Glaub I bought earlier this year and it has the Hanson pickup in it. The pickup I would say is 'vintage-hot' in that it has that classic P bass sound but with a bit more output than a vintage model. That's only the beginning though as the neck feels and plays great, a stunning bit of kit and worth investigating. If you're in London anytime you're more than welcome to pop round/meet up and try it out... Cheers and hope that helps you a bit, Jon
Thanks! Sounds great to me. I might check one out. I keep looking at other basses, then coming back to the simple P bass design.
 25.
Knowing him.... whatever he wants this week, he'd have gone off it next week, and he'd be after something else. I have never seen anyone like him in terms of gas and "wants" lol
Hahah, I get involved in wanting bits and bobs and realise Ive got caught up in 'new bass' hysteria. A P is ALWAYS my goto instrument, next is the Ray, and the Jazz closely behind. I dont know why it is, but the P works. I like to investigate them, check what works for me, then make a decision, which then probably changes hahaha. Im going through a transition of not knowing what I want next I think, and I really miss my natural Ray 4. Sob. Really, 2 Ps (minimum), 2 Js, and 2 Rays plus a 5 string of some type is where I want to be.
