1.
I don't know about that, because when I played an NYC bass it was privately owned. I suppose a large part of my disappointment was that I was sitting down with a "Sadowsky", a name that has some much weight attached. And at the end of the day, when it's just a jazz bass and not a particularly outstanding one at that, you're bound to be left feeling disapppointed. I like jazz basses just as much as the next bloke, but for the same cash you could have a Sei or a Wal!
This is the same as my experience, except I tried all Metros. They have outstandting fit and finish (and so they should) which id never argue with.
Its gonna be interesting to see what happens to the opinion on Alleva's now Jimmy is using his new cnc machine for everything!
Exactly. Lets face it, if we were offered cash on something we'd worked on for years, hell yes Id sell and enjoy my life. Why not? In 5 years times Sadowsky and Alleva will be much larger names, and something else will be boutique. Same with a band. Id sell out in seconds if it meant earning and not stressing myself out being a trainee solicitor If I remember correctly, one underground hardcore band said (Coalesce): "Sometimes selling out is waking up."
2.
I'd love to know how many metro's / laklands are made... I know that the New York shop makes around 20 basses per month so its pretty small scale really! You must have caught Kevin at a bad / busy time in the sadowsky office, ive had nothing but great service over the last few years, Ive even had strings, new volume pots and input jacks sent over to me for free just so i could try them out and i always get helpful replies to my questions.
I think they make Lakland Skylines in either groups of 30 or 60 according to the last time I asked them. Might be more now. Kevin seemed fine, it was Roger who seemed rather, hmm, I wont say anything rude.
3. Jees guys calm it! Dont get so defensive! We all chase the same thing on here I personally think at those prices, you are best off with a Sei, or an Alleva. Without a doubt. The NYCs arent everywhere here, but they are in the USA. I dont see, despite the fact I dont like how Lakland finish off their basses, why their is such a price difference on a fairly mass produced Metro cf to a Lakland Skyline. All made elsewhere then checked and fitted in the USA. Not a problem with that, but I dont see why they cost so much?! I wouldnt mind, but when I emailed them a fair while back, I felt slightly miffed at the somewhat sharp and slightly off responses. Made me realised If I had a problem with one once Id bought it, Id not feel happy complaining.
4. If you check Thomann these prices are virtually the same or more, so probably cheaper from Thomann! Still good prices mind.
5.
Awesome, awesome combo! And or those worrying about the wattage, don't, chances are this thing is louder than any other combo you may have heard! Bump:)
Plus one. I paid a fortune for one of these back in the day.
6. IMO, expensive bit of kit.
7. I bet this will be gone in a flash...
8.
Great video and a beautiful bass, if only it was rosewood. Good luck with the sale.
Thanks! It is a lovely bass. I am 99% sure if my trade goes ahead on the Jazz I have for sale, this is being kept/withdrawn and Im just going to have a nice set of twin Precisions!
9. I think a lot of TCs gig artists are using these amps with 3 cabs. If it wasnt recommended, they'd have units going back for repair all the time. I wont do it very often, but the option is there. Mainly I bought them to swap and change, and because at the time, before the price hike, they were very reasonable.
10.
Silly money for production basses, IMV.
It is going that way. Thye didnt used to be so highly in demand which meant I could understand the high price tag. Now, they are churning them out. It makes a new Musicman seem cheap and they are all built and checked in the USA. Ive only had one with an issue and that was more down to a new model I think. Btw, off topic, but GuitarGuitar are expensive anyway. I went to ask them for a box yesterday, (they had a lot hanging around) and they wanted £5.00, even for a scruffy one. So I went to the Windows Music shop and they gave me one for free....then I just picked up some spare card at an office nearby. Those NYCs are hung up for everyone to play. There is no chance Id want one after its been played like mad at that price.
11.
You have to do that soon and post what happens, if you survive
Hhaha, definitely. Most bands I play with havent got a clue what they are. The bassist normally has a normal size/type of cab and mine looks like 'the future'.
12. Man, those prices....jees. Actually, the Metro prices (some of them) arent far off. Thats one serious investment. If im honest Id buy direct for a NYC model.
13.
Stupid design top put side vents on a rack mountable. I'd just put a fan in blowing from the back.
That is odd! One thing I dont miss from my Trace is the bloomin fan that 100& necessary. The micro amps I have are very quiet and the Orange just doesnt use a fan..I love the smell of warmed up tubes!
14.
i prefer the red rubber rings off a grolsch bottle.
Plus one. Normally I would suggest locks, but I really DONT like playing with them on. Just feels odd and clunky. Having it locked in some sense is very necessary, so the orange rubber rings work a treat and come off with a bit of force. I used a cheap old bass and held it over my bed with the rubber rings on, and gave it a damn good bit of shaking, and the rubber rings worked a treat. From then on, Im happy with them and make sure I put them on when im gigging.
15. It does, a little. It has an inherent tone, which a lot of players like. Then again, its all down to if it suits your tastes. It does suck the mids, and give you quite a modern 'Ampeg being thrashed at hi gain' when you crank the gain, but I love it. Excellent bit of kit!
16. New as in never gigged, still has the plastic on the tuners/pickguard, and probably just had about 10 hours home use. I've had a busy 6 months and this hasn't been used. There is a potential trade going ahead, but if not will update everyone. Still open to offers at the moment until trade 100% going ahead.
17. Potential trade going ahead with a store...
18. I've concluded that for rock, you can't beat a p bass or stingray. I love the Jazz tone but I prefer the feel of a P and the fact I feel it sits easier in the mix. If I'm in a bad moodor stressed, I always seem to struggle liking my tone 100%.
19. I've been using Ernie Ball Group III flats and they are fantastic! Tension is about medium...a bit more than TIs. Nice smooth tone, apparently they turn to that nice thud and lose their zing quite quickly. Very impressed!
20. Out of those, the Shuttle 9.0 personally. I like Markbass and briefly owned an F500, but it just seemed too small and almost too many features crammed in. The LM3 is more my sound. I found myself tweaking the F500, which I never to with the LM3.
21. Goes to show that it does all come down to the 'tone' you want. I agree, test them all out. I barely use mine due to it's sheer immense overkill power for some gigs. I love it, and I won't sell it, but it really has got some ummph behind it. One great thing is the popularity, even outside of the bass world, means if I do sell I won't lose that much. Not that I'm selling!!
22. I have three cabs and Ive never run them all at once, but I will one day. One RS212 on its own is VERY loud.
23. The 9.0 has a MUCH fuller low end apparently. I got one of the first units in the UK, and I sent it back due to a frame issue, (im 100% sure the frame wasnt straight as I measured it with a spirit level). Hence, the amp wobbled all the time, (it wasnt the feet btw). I still would like one, and at £615 its a no brainer.
24. I used to think I was indecisive....now Im not so sure. There's a link to classic comedy there.
25. Few of the specialists. Apparently cuts in prices for Sept. Bass Merchant chaps mentioned it the other day. It's around £615 which is good tbh.
