I've concluded that for rock, you can't beat a p bass or stingray. I love the Jazz tone but I prefer the feel of a P and the fact I feel it sits easier in the mix. If I'm in a bad moodor stressed, I always seem to struggle liking my tone 100%.

I've been using Ernie Ball Group III flats and they are fantastic! Tension is about medium...a bit more than TIs. Nice smooth tone, apparently they turn to that nice thud and lose their zing quite quickly. Very impressed!

Shuttle 9.0, markbass F1 or EA iamp micro 550???
Musicman20 replied to gafbass02's topic in Amps and Cabs
Out of those, the Shuttle 9.0 personally. I like Markbass and briefly owned an F500, but it just seemed too small and almost too many features crammed in. The LM3 is more my sound. I found myself tweaking the F500, which I never to with the LM3. -
Goes to show that it does all come down to the 'tone' you want. I agree, test them all out. I barely use mine due to it's sheer immense overkill power for some gigs. I love it, and I won't sell it, but it really has got some ummph behind it. One great thing is the popularity, even outside of the bass world, means if I do sell I won't lose that much. Not that I'm selling!!

I have three cabs and Ive never run them all at once, but I will one day. One RS212 on its own is VERY loud.

Shuttle 9.0, markbass F1 or EA iamp micro 550???
Musicman20 replied to gafbass02's topic in Amps and Cabs
The 9.0 has a MUCH fuller low end apparently. I got one of the first units in the UK, and I sent it back due to a frame issue, (im 100% sure the frame wasnt straight as I measured it with a spirit level). Hence, the amp wobbled all the time, (it wasnt the feet btw). I still would like one, and at £615 its a no brainer. -

Few of the specialists. Apparently cuts in prices for Sept. Bass Merchant chaps mentioned it the other day. It's around £615 which is good tbh. -
imo a hybrid head would do all of the tube warmth and give more clean headroom. the main reason all tube heads are so sought after when compared to hybrid heads is because its so hard to emulate the sound of an tube power section. the orange terror bass has the same preamp section as the ad200b but with a digital power amp or 500 or 1000w which might be a better option if you want clean sound but with the tube vibe / warmth.
This is true, but still only to an extent. There is still a pretty large difference and massive heft that only a tube amp can do. The BT is close, but you can tell when you compare it. The RH450 is also VERY close to sounding like a warm tube amp.
It'll do loud and clean but not sure about very loud and clean. Then again I've never had a problem with mine not being loud enough and clean. Try one.
+1 A tiny bit of dirt is the sweetspot. Never been above 1/3 on the Master.
Yep I bought it off bubinga5 so yes this will presumably have been yours before that. It's a great bass and I don't know whether this is true of all Stingray5's but this one has a superb B string with a real bell like clarity.
Its a great B on the Ray 5. MUCH better than id ever hoped for, then mine arrived and I can t get enough of it. This is a totaL BARGAIN and Id quite like it myself!
As well as the P bass? How come you're selling all your new basses?!...
I think Im just selling one...whichever goes first, then the other might get withdrawn. Main reason is I have too many!
Bloody hell, i would have had this last month. Sounds like your really having a clear out. To make way for......? Tell you what, put this neck on the P and ill buy the P off you :-)
Kinda a change over....but not entirely sure yet. I think Im keeping one of these and it might be the P bass. Not sure yet... PS More pics coming tonight.

Fender American Standard Jazz Bass This bass, as most of this new American Standard, has excellent balance and a smooth neck. Great tight neck pockets, excellent finish, and great line up with the pole pieces on the pups. I got this from the Bass Merchant and it was checked over before I picked it up. I cannot weigh it, but its not even slightly heavy. Id say its pretty much low to mid weight. Probably the lightest Fender Ive currently got. The sound? Exactly what you expect from an American Jazz; punch, grindy, and growly. Jazz growl like you'd expect. String it with flats and the bass transforms! Just the back pickup, and you get the nice Jacoish solo tone. Still has hanging tags, and the plastic covering on the guard and tuners. As most of you might know, im ultra fussy with QC, and this passed all my usual checks I make before buying. Basically, this is shop condition, but with no issues. Looking at it, youd think no one had touched it. As with all new Fenders, you get: Brand new unmarked excellent new hardcase + case candy Rolled fingerboard edges High Mass Bridge String through body or through bridge Excellent maple board that gleams! Lighter tuner keys Flat pole pieces on the pickups No wear, no marks, immaculate. Medium-low action, factory strings (still lots of life). Its seen barely any action as Ive been studying my LPC, quit my old band, and moved! No marks on the neck, no fret wear, and the stock strings still sound new! The cheapest Ive seen is £900. http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/75234. They retail for more than this. I'd like £690 for it which is very fair considering how 'new' it literally is. Id also consider trades for the following: EBMM Bongo 5, EBMM Sterling 4 or 5, EBMM Stingray 5, EBMM Stingray 2 Band. Ill consider other basses as well, so just PM me. Id only like to stay at the same level of price, or above not below when it comes to trade. So my Jazz straight trade or my Jazz + cash depending on the bass. Uninsured/standard shipping is cheaper (£15 or so), and insured shipping is around £30, maybe a little less. This will be through Interparcel, who I have used before, and Ive been more than impressed. You can also arrange your own courier if you like. I can also possibly meet within 1 hour of Newcastle, for around £10 of fuel. If you are local, feel free to ask for a test and obviously this will save shipping. PM any offers or questions. Im happy to help. As per my feedback, I REALLY look after my gear. Normal procedure is cash on collection, or bank transfer/paypal before collection/dispatching to your address. Trade Pending
I don't think anyone would argue with the posts stating some of the cheaper squire and SX stuff will do the job or that you may have a lifelong friend in top end bass (be it a £1500 RI or other make) However please don't rule out japanese fenders basses, you can get a fantastic instrument for around £500 I've a CIJ P bass, it cost me £450 and I couldn't love it more, its seen action already so I am not so concerned about where i use it, so it gets happy use, if I had a brand shiny new RI62 Id be worried to take it half the places I go Having said that MM20 was selling a MIA P bass that is as new and may be worth a look
Thanks for the plug MIJ Fenders - I would definitely like a used one, (and I wish id bought Clarky's!). The difficulty is sourcing one.
Duly noted Thanks for the interest. I just prefer not to split because of trying to separate the price or the other buyer pulls out etc etc. Your Ken Smith is stunning btw, definately FET channel rather than Tube
Just out of interest, what is the price on the 212? Are there any pics at all? Thanks

Fitting TI Flats to an 09 USA Precision
Musicman20 replied to Musicman20's topic in Accessories and Misc
Well, I checked on the EBMM forum, and no one has had problems with string through with the EB Group IIIs. I actually really like the feel and tone of these. A little higher tension that TIs, but thats not such a bad thing. They bend fairly well, and are flexible to enjoy a bit of rocking out. They are a bit sparkly as they are new, but give it a few weeks and they will soften up.
