PMT Manchester are pretty good, but PMT Leeds, nope. Hopefully since I last did business with them they aren't as shifty, but who knows.

Is anybody getting bored of "reliced" instruments?
Musicman20 replied to prowla's topic in Bass Guitars
I'm getting bored of anything Dingwall and Darkglass orientated. It's apparently a dream combination... If you think a relic'd bass or guitar is a fad, then fanned frets are right up there as a fad. -
I ordered a Stingray 4HS with MHS and an SLO neck. You're right about the prices. I was going to order a Stingray 5 30th, but they are asking a lot of coin for it. I still might, but I have a month to think about it before the ordering window opens. What were you going to order?
That will be a lovely rare bass! You don't see many 4HS and 5HS basses, and it surprises me as the wiring options are great for that setup. Plus I haven't seen many Starry Night basses...more guitars. The Stingray 5 30th is really tempting. Great spec and interesting that they are using binding. I was very tempted with a Valentine or St Vincent, but the prices went up by approx. £300.

Actually, I'm almost surprised this hasn't been done before...
Hi everyone. Some great feedback here, thank you! I’m thinking of upgrading to the LM800, just for a little more headroom. It has a power handling of 800w RMS, will this work ok with the NY122? I have seen a few players on youtube using the LM800/NY122 setup (including jazz heavyweight Richard Bona himself). But I wanted to swing it past everyone here on basschat first?
Originally, the LM2/3 sounded quite a lot warmer and less clinical than the LM800, but they've changed a fair bit of spec since then, so now I'm not sure. I think they changed the LM3 to a Class D module a few years back. I would try it how it is first....see if you need it.

Aye it's a good idea, and the collaboration is also a good idea. Chapman guitars seem to be the 'big' guys in the UK doing the overseas manufacturing, but they've missed the boat on having a good few basses in their range and the one they did (or are working on) is yet again reaching into metal territory.
-
Yes, the crash of the £ had made it even harder. But add that with a price hike, or just a manufacturer that is expensive, and we are hitting £300-400....
-
Aye, the tweeter in the NY122 is meant to be a better offering than some of their other cabs. I've just checked the recent prices and I must say they are pretty fairly priced. I'm sure the Italian ones were a fair bit more.

Musicman20 replied to prowla's topic in Bass Guitars
Those noting how their basses still look new 10-30 years later, that is entirely possible with pretty decent care and a more modern poly paint. Traditional Fender nitro doesn't wear like that...at all. In fact, the new Johnny Marr Jaguar has the thinnest layer of nitro and it will wear quicker than you'd expect. It was spec'd like that by the artist. I have time for both 'styles'....mainly new and clean but the new/old well made Fenders are nice. It definitely feels different to play which I was NOT expecting. -
probably wondered more about the colour than the wear patterns?
Mixture of both....spent a good 5 mins holding it and turning it over looking at the way it had been aged. -
But IIRC the "wear" pattern is exactly the same on all the Flea Jazz Basses which doesn't makes them unique at all ;-)
Oh that is true, but the colour/spec and wear is quite something to look at in the flesh, so to speak. Mr Dad isn't a musician and is used to seeing immaculate guitars/basses, and he was impressed with how they had made it look like a vintage Jazz. -
Mine never had overhang....is it a redesign?

I wasn't that bothered either way until I bought the Flea Jazz Bass. Even my Dad, who doesn't play, thought it looked really unique. -
It's clear you're a Bowie fan, but this thread isn't about what he achieved, dead or alive, or comparing him to Adele. In as much as saying Adele won't be making off the wall experimental semi-jazz albums in her 60s, I mean honestly, what sort of statement is this, it's nonsensical. Maybe she'll be going through a death-metal phase in 40 years. No. One. Knows. That said, if you do have a time machine and some insider knowledge, could you be so kind as to get me next Saturday's lottery numbers?
It doesn't really matter who does or doesn't know his albums. I was stating he deserved the awards. Yes, his death certainly meant people realised how much they liked him and his album sales increased. I surely didn't appreciate him quite as much as I do now. I just don't think Adele, or any modern artist, will ever have a long career experimenting with music. The music industry doesn't seem equipped for that, especially as most people require 18 people to write a song for them. It's just a statement. That is it. She is great singer, but that is all she does....and it's very tedious at best.
There could be quite a few returns, I sent back a GK combo which I noticed was sold as a B stock a week or so later.
At least they didn't do a GAK and sell it as new.... hahahah!

E bay...where have all the bargains gone?
Musicman20 replied to theplumber's topic in General Discussion
I sell on groups via Facebook, etc. I never use eBay to sell unless I absolutely have to, or to appeal to people who want to buy certain types of clothing or barely worn classic trainers, etc. -
At least Bowie achieved 5. Adele will NEVER been on the level of Bowie, and that is probably just how the industry is now. She will not be making off the wall experimental semi-jazz albums in her 60s. I don't take notice of these awards, but I'm glad Bowie got the recognition he deserved. Hopefully people who listen to Adele might think 'that album of Bowie's seems popular, i'll try it'.

Interesting new Ibanez, even for a 'traditional' player...
Musicman20 replied to Musicman20's topic in Bass Guitars
I don't know why but I want one! I doubt I'll ever get one though. I really don't like the GAK demos, but more so the guitar ones. Shedding hipsters. -
I used to use the older Italian model...I think it was a 700W rated cab. Super light! Easy to move around. I'm not sure how the latest models compare.

New Flea signature bass on the cards ?
Musicman20 replied to Wayne Firefly's topic in General Discussion
I just don't know why Musicman don't utilise one of the most well known modern bass players! I mean, not only is he well known, his bass lines really do sit high in the mix.... I guess the Stingray doesn't need to have a signature artist version as it sells itself, but I do think he could come up with something very cool with them. -
Thanks for all the responses. Finally have a brand new pedal with me now, and the old one is on it's way back. Yep, I was right, bits and pieces were missing from the box....this one is brand new. Makes me doubt I'd use them again, despite now having what I want...this could have been saved had they just sent a new one originally.

I have two 'higher end' MIM instruments. Baja Telecaster - USA pickups, 50's styling, massive fat neck....SUPERB. Build quality is amazing. Flea Road Worn Jazz Bass - USA pickups, unique colour, plays superb....build quality again is amazing. It plays better than my MIA Fender Jazz. I've played a few absolutely awful USA Fenders as well.... The MIM series, especially the higher end (I'm eyeing up a Jazzmaster at the mo) are very good.
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I really hope not, because I'd just might end up buying one mesmerised by its colour
It would be awesome though! hahaha A purple metalflake Jazz bass, but with all the traditional Fender trimmings. MMMMM! Or just a nice green....like Sherwood Green!

I wouldn't personally go custom. I'd try to work out what you really want, then see what is available....didn't read the whole thread but I assume there is a ceiling on price? There is SO much to choose from now. If you wanted a high end 5 string Jazz, I'd personally opt for Sadowsky. Every time. If you want a Musicman type tone, just get a Musicman...don't bother with a custom. As your Yamaha is fairly modern looking, you might like the Bongo...they are completely crazy but play so well. The tone is so precise and 'quick'... Precision bass? Tough...actually nowadays I wouldn't say a Fender 5 string P...I don't like the new Professional Series specs and colours but that's me. Sandberg do a nice modern style take on a P and J. Roscoe might be your thing...plus they have some lovely new traditional looking gear coming out. If you like your Yamaha, perhaps just a high end Yamaha?
