1. Rays can tend to stick out in the mix due to the sizzling treble....I assume some high mids as well? Sometimes, with certain tweeters and plectrums, it can make it quite clanky, which is great for some styles, but if you want a different tone, knock the treble back a little, cut the tweeter control a little, try using fingers or flats or both.... I've heard some very dark sounding Stingrays that underpin bands a little more like a P bass. I would stick to a rig that allows you to have as much treble as you like, so you can cut it or just let it sizzle through.
2. If anyone is interested, or insane enough to shell out this much for a Fender at this level, then... https://www.gak.co.uk/en/fender-american-professional-jazz-bass-v-5-string-3-colour-sunburst-rosewood/904218 Almost £1700. Nice exciting pickguard comes as standard.... I tried an American Standard P5 for about £450 (or more) less than this not so long ago.
3. Either is fine with me. Passive P bass - great. Active Stingray - great. The one instrument that straddles the boundaries well is my Big Al SSS which is basically a bizarre 3 pickup bass that nails a P bass tone, and the active/passive switchover is so incredibly well refined that both are worth using all the time. The main issue is a GOOD passive tone control.
4. Let's remember than the AG500 was not as reliable as the current micro TH500, so I see this as a step forward in technology. One thing that Aguilar tend to get right, especially now, is concentrating on reliability. I barely hear of any T500 issues. The issue I see is price. The Aguilar gear used to be sent to stores direct. I bought my cabs when this was the business model. Now, they have a distributor, the prices are much higher, and the £ is incredibly weak. I expect £800+.

6. Pickup an American Standard on offer asap...hopefully you will be sent a nice one. I've had one since 2009/10 ish...great bass. Other options: Nate Mendal Precision or Road Worn Precision.
7. Because Stingrays are the best bass guitars. Even better than P basses!
8. I've no idea on how long the production run is. Andertons had some in stock when they released the video. I don't think they would market it and demo it unless they could order some more in, but who knows. I would personally jump on one if you can. They will no doubt be subject to yet another price rise soon.
9. Nice to see them constantly moving on, and it seems they are getting talked about a lot more now, which is marketing in itself. The P sounds great, but I'd still rather get a Sadowsky who, IMO, are still at the pinnacle of very high quality and stunning P and J basses.
10. I've never owned an Ibanez but I have a lot of respect for their work....especially looking at what they've been upto!
11.
£15 ? hes making more than that . the deco stuff goes for half its new price approx. then hes adding more on top at a rough guestimation more like £40-£60 per sale. just got off the phone from ebay and have managed to make some progress after arguing the fact that this person is selling under false pretences. so gonna try and get him spanked down.
Good man.
12. I think Bowie's Blackstar and his sad passing in 2016 has had a huge influence on the market for vinyl. I mean, Blackstar (thankfully!) outsold Adele's latest album on vinyl, and it is probably one of the most experimental albums I've heard by a huge artist for some time. That, for me, says a lot. It means there really are pockets of people out there that love music that isn't just the norm. My vinyl collection has become much larger in the past 2 years. Mainly due to having space to have my full stereo out, and space for the turntable to be accessible without it being annoying. Plus, I really enjoy buying music on a physical format and having the digital version for the iPhone/Mac. Best of both worlds.
13. I get wound up by these things as well. Anyone making a profit in ways like this do wind me up. Unless he is receiving them and giving them a total setup and changing any issues...which I doubt. He must be making a decent profit. £15 here and there through eBay isn't worth bothering with.
14. Serious piece of history!
15. Nice sleek minimalist design. What is super intelligent about it? Just wondering.
16. The aesthetics of the Dingwall, and the concept of fanned frets, may unfortunately be something that would not be in the running for a player....obviously not all.

18. The Genzler site has had a nice update: http://www.genzleramplification.com/home.jhtm http://www.genzleramplification.com/product/MG350-BA10-Combo/Magellan-350-Combo.html?cid=18 http://www.genzleramplification.com/product/MG-350/Magellan-350.html?cid=18 http://www.genzleramplification.com/product/BA10-2/Bass-Array10-2.html?cid=17 The little 1x10 cab + 4 x 2.5.....!
19.
not any more!
In terms of Fender Jazz basses, it is still rare.
20. It's far far FAR away from a normal MIM. Reasons: - Paintwork/colour/worn look/nitro, - American-made Pure Vintage ’64 Jazz Bass single-coil pickups, - V/V/T/T, - I presume some sort of vintage spec neck profile, - Tort guard, - Feel and weight. Mine, as I've noted above, is such great bass. I like my MIA American Standard Jazz, but I think the more growly/vintage spec pickups and different feel of the bass makes a huge difference. It is a very rare colour....
21.
A very good choice My first 5-string I had was a SR5, weak sound from the pickup and floppy B-string. Many years later I treated myself to a MTD 535. Better B-string, but too many dead spots on the fretboard. After that, my first Lakland, a 55-01. Cheap as hell, firm and articulate B-string and no dead spots! The pickups are OK, but for the price its a great bass!. Never looked back. Next 5-string I had was a Lakland USA 5-string JO and the last few years a Skyline 55-64 which actually has a even better fretjob than the JO, the bass basically plays itself. I'm never changing 5-string brand again!
I would imagine there was an issue with the pickup, battery and setup on the Ray 5. I've tried many many Laklands, and whilst they make a fairly cool 35" 5 string bass, the Musicman 5 strings I've played always sounded MUCH tighter with more of a kick on the B string.
22. Nice! If I didn't already have too much gear I would be very interested.
23. Worth checking if the UK distributor has stock....often they have some available.
24. I've emailed them for information on a product or two over the years and always been put off with what seems to be an attitude of 'just buy it and find out'.
25.
The smell came back. Bloody hippies.
I can be of no assistance but I thought this was funny.
