Why Do You Prefer a Jazz Over a Precision?
Musicman20 replied to Count Bassie's topic in Bass Guitars
P - Feels great, sounds great, looks great. J - Looks great, quite versatile, not as keen on the neck but Id still like to find one I get on with. -
A lot of the criticism specifically on here sounds like the sour grapes of weekend wannabes who are still riled they never made it.
LOL!
Now she is quite famous and in the papers and the magazines, it seems people think it's acceptable for them to say unkind things about her. So bloody British, eh? God help us if any BCers make the big time.
Its IS British, I agree. My opinion on the cover? I dont like Elton John's music, and I never will. Something about it that just doesn't work for me. But thats fine, because I accept he is an incredibly talented artist! I prefer Ellie's originals, but we can't like everything by every artist. Even my guitarist who absolutely loves much heavier and faster music thinks Ellie's album is great.

I think Ellie has done extremely well. I am not a fan of usual pop, but she does put a different slant on it, and its clear she is a good musician and vocalist. Id quite happily play pop, and I think anyone who wouldnt if its their actual career (eg payment for enjoying yourself!) is probably jealous of her position. I think we should all be polite and respect the fact her brother is a fellow bassist. IMO, she is nothing like the X-Factor contestants.
Got a review " I know what you're thinking - that bloke in the picture doesn't look much like either of The Plan's vocalists, Tom Crabb or Andrew Keech. That's because neither of them were actually present, for some reason or another. So rather than bail altogether, bassist Wayne Tully and drummer Ben Gower hastily recruited Captain Bastard and the Scallywags' resident mandolin player Jordan Harris (pictured) as makeshift frontman, renamed themselves Mexican Wave (6.5/10), and proceeded to belt out a set of various Nirvana and Green Day covers with varying degrees of success. Of course, mistakes and technical sloppiness in these circumstances are about as inevitable as the sun rising in the morning and politicians lying to save face, so we wound up hearing the same verse to 'Longview' repeated 3 times (in fact, most bands have a problem with that song - Dr Goon brutally buttf***ed it, and even The Submission struggled with the lyrics), and 'When I Come Around' clunked badly at times, but all things considered, the group actually did pretty well. Wayne's slick bass playing and Ben's driving beats formed a strong backbone when they fire together, just as they do on a regular basis with The Plan, while Harris brought an energetic delivery and barked vocals to the party. The Nirvana covers in particular went down very well, and as they ended on another Green Day cover, the criminally underrated 'Burnout', there was a sense that the trio might have stumbled on a combination that has potential to work if it's actually formed into a proper band. It'll be interesting to see if they decide to progress with the idea."
I say roll with it and form a 'full on' band with them -
As I want to maximise my chances of getting into a band again I'd welcome any feed back on what I've put up as my advert, which follows. Please don't hold back. If I've made any howlers I'd rather know! I await your comments with interests.
Nice friendly advert

I think it was a BAD move, considering the prices seem to RISE over here. Now you have to pay silly premiums for the USA made Ampeg gear. Absolutely ridiculous, and one of the reasons I went with Orange.

I tend to find I get responses from 15 year olds who like Paramore. Now dont get me wrong, we all have to start somewhere, but Ive never met anyone in their mid-twenties to mid-thirties through those sites, which is a shame.
-
I still think meeting people by chance or through friends is the best way. All of the 'join' sites have been a waste of time for me unfortunately.

http://www.youtube.com/user/fosters They're not teasers as far as I'm aware - they're stand-alone mini episodes, I think.
Oww heck, I was told they are potentially leads to a new series. Who knows... -
So, the trade is watts against weight..?? Hopefully, that will free up a few DB112's around here
I think thats the idea with them. Smaller, lighter package, for those who dont want to carry 40lbs ish. For me? Im happy with the DB weight anyway, its not huge. I can imagine Aguilar have done a great job on these new cabinets.
Er, no, the NEOX 212T is carpet covered.
Err, yep, sorry mate, it is! When I say new I mean the 'latest' versions - http://www.genzbenz.com/?fa=whatsnew Or - http://genzbenz.com/?fa=detail&mid=143...426&cid=96# They arent in this country yet, but that has made me like the 'look' of them even more.
(I actually like to hear a nice regional accent on a woman, and the Geordie accent is one of my favourites).
+1...half the reason I moved here. The best 'accents' always seem to surprise me on women who are incredibly intelligent and/or have a very high profile position in a company, then as soon as they speak, you suddenly realise all is well, and you can have a normal conversation with them. Geordie or Scouse accents on nice ladies are the best! -
Hey, quality review, found it on my travels, after your post on my thread. GAK are doing what seems like a good deal on this set up, and it's very tempting, but along came Matamp. Th Orange cabs seem very solid, I'm wondering how Matamp's cabs match up. Oh, and there's nothing wrong with how things look
Cheers!
Strikes me as extremely good business sense? So you own a Mesa, Genz, TC or whatever, and it blows. You go back to the shop and they tell you it'll be two to four weeks before they can get in a replacement. However, in the meantime, here's Markbass to the rescue. It's advertising for sure, and it'll be costing MB a lot of money to do, but unlike most advertising, it'll be helping out a few bassists (and retailers), and on that basis they should be applauded for taking the initiative. C
Its a fantastic business idea, +1 PS - I really like that front plate!
Birmingham might be a good shout. It's fairly central, good transport links, lots of hotels etc. What do you think? Truckstop
Probably a good idea! -
If you love the Orange, get it. I would not advise you to buy the Matamp without trying it out, that's the whole point with their amps by the way.Try it,have them tweak it to your liking. I had about the same thoughts you have.I tried an Orange AD200MK3,loved it.Then i heard about Matamp being handbuilt,no circuitboard and so on.And that the Matamp would be insanely loud. I bought a Matamp in standardversion without trying it.(I live in Sweden)It sounded very different to the Orange, more like a Mesa/Boogie.It was a bit louder but with 2 cabs the Orange is loud too. Yes the Matamp is VERY well built, compared to the Orange, but the Orange might be good enough. In the end it's all about what it sounds like IMHO,so try the Matamp, you know what the Orange sounds like.
Excellent advice from a bassist who has been there and tried them all! I agree, its down to your tastes. Personally, I bought the AD200b because the tube grind is best IVE personally had the chance to hear. Not only that, Ive experienced excellent customer service and help from Neil at their Head Office. I was given the chance to go and test all their new amps last year around this time, and that was brilliant. The engineers came in and said: 'Sorry, there is a problem!' At this point I thought I had been too loud. Then he said: 'we can't hear you upstairs, you need to turn up a LOT more to appreciate the tone', and laughed. I will, at some point, go and try a Matamp properly and not just for a few moments. I may even custom order one in a few years, who knows. But, at this stage Im really happy with my Orange setup. Another point, whether you choose Orange or Matamp, they are both stupidly loud no matter what. Ive used the OBC115 with the AD200b Mk3 at full volume rehearsals against a drummer, vocalist, and 2 guitarists with 4x12s. I had the gain on approx. 2/3 and the master on 1/3.....awesome dirty tone but you could really 'feel' it coming out of the 1x15....which was elevated.
