1.
900 on order
How much are they? £850?
2. Streamliner 600 also being released.
3.
The SVT CL doesn't break up as much as I'd like. Having said that playing over the bridge pick up helps, but I've never played in that position and I find it really odd.
Ah, I see. Im guessing youd have to be very loud to get it to break up. Thats one of the advantages I liked with the Orange amp; even at a low volume (practice volume) you can crank the gain right up and it breaks up nicely.
4.
something sealed
I agree, plus crank the amp til it breaks up a little. Can you keep the master down whilst cranking the gain? Ive not used an SVT-CL indepth to be honest, only had a few chances to test one. You are definitely on the right track!
5.
They're not mutually exclusive, you know!
Unfortunately in the genres Ive played in recently, there has been a strange 'understanding' between bands and venues that the venue/promoter are doing YOU a favour by letting you play. Shocking really. We did get into some scrapes over this in Nottingham when the promoter was stashing about £1000 into a bag and wouldnt even throw us £20 for petrol. Ive even seen it spreading into more commercial indie gigs....basically the bands paying to play their own gig. Hopefully this wont continue for the rest of my life! Until it does, I always turn up when I can, I dont make special arrangements to leave work early now as its never appreciated!
6. I would have been pretty furious if im honest. I hate pointless sound checks. As Im never paid for gigs, (played originals most my life) I turn up when I want normally. I feel your frustration!
7. IMO, if you want an agressive growly tone, obviously its partly down to what bass you use (Jazz basses help) and having the amp just touching the 'break up' sound (if using a tube amp). Gallien's are well known for lots of growl, but obviously that doesnt help here. Personally, Id seek a 2x10 (x2) or 4x10. I find having the horn on the cab a little brings out that brightness a little. Depends on what you consider growl
8. When you say rattle do you mean buzz on the higher frets? Im guessing so. I bought the MIA Fender P I have and it had an insanely low setup, but wow was it a beauty to play. The neck seemed spot on, so I just adjusted the string height saddles very slightly. Now the fret buzz I had near the higher frets has completely gone. I think youve managed to sort it anyway
9. I used to play this song with a covers band. The two guitarists basically said 'they probably didnt even realise it wasnt in standard tuning', which I probably agree with. I tried to fathom it out, but yep, something sounds off to my ears.
10. I think the 200 Watt Tube Head popularity is beginning to show. I think it seems a lot of players didnt need the 300W of the Ampeg CL/VR and are looking for a lighter tube solution, and that tone you get from pushing an amp with less watts. Nice idea. I like where Ashdown are going at the moment. I doubt id buy one, but Id love to test it against my Orange.
11. Cool, glad you like it! It definitely stands out
12. That's more like it!!
13. Im keeping my eye out for a cheap P bass now...if you see one for around £50-£70 let me know.
14. Was the bass second hand or new when you purchased it?
15. Good choice with the Tele... Bump.
16.
You can have mine for that!!
I know, I wish it were a P (or just a P neck!)...other than that its a great bass!
17. Contact Strings & Things in the UK, and also email Musicman customer service in the USA. Strings & Things are you first call, and they are excellent with problems like this.
18.
I picked up a Westfield 2 tone sunburst Precision with gigbag, strap and tuner for £50 a few months ago, bought it for parts but ended up playing it for a bit and selling it. Very well made and sounded great, i've been on the lookout for the Jazz version since as you can never have too many jazz basses!
Thats an excellent price! Where can I find these sub £100 bargains?!
19. Wow, Ive never seen one of these! Needs a rosewood board though.
20. Ive seen some prices; £850 ish which I think is a little steep when you compare it to the GK Fusion or add a little cash (or no cash) and get the RH450 with more features. We shall see, the price will probably drop to £775 ish with some retailers once its been around a while.
21.
I finally picked up my new TC Electronics RH450 and RS210, very nice it is too, soon I will be adding an RS112 but still was thinking is it possible to add yet another RS112? I can't see anywhere that has had this combination I was wondering if it would work and what would it sound like.
It WILL work no problems, as it can power 3 cabinets from the RS range (nothing else x3 though). I like the RS210+212, and it seems popular on talkbass. Nice full punchy tone with the tens giving you a touch of definition when stacked on top.
22.
You can't go wrong with a second hand Genz Benz Neox212T 2x12 cab. 600W @ 4 ohms - a perfect match for the SVTIIIPro (I have both) and very lightweight AND powerful!
+1 good idea.
23. In my time as a bassist, the times I was less bothered about gear and more bothered about normal life I was actually always in stronger bands. I have 3 key bands I should never have left. Two are still going, so one was never meant to be anyway. The 2 that are left are both originals bands, and one of them in particular was just stunning. I never knew it at the time as money was tight (post-student days so I was lacking funds) and I had other rubbish going on in my life, plus I was deciding about where to go next (which I finally did with my LPC...thankfully). I feel like an idiot listening to them now. Im still in touch with them, and Ive emailed to see how they are. They are now a 2 piece with a live drummer they bring in for big gigs and the bass is all either programmed or on keys with the singer I think. They have suddenly got a huge following, especially overseas. Jealous? Hell yes. Feel like I should have realised back then the grass isnt always greener? Hell yes. Dont get me wrong, I enjoy the band Im in now, but for sheer songwriting quality, I am still a little gutted I left.
24.
Er... didn't you just sell one a few months ago?
Sold a Berg HS410, which sometimes I wish I still had.
