  1. Or you could just cut your bass EQ if you want less bass? I find that full-on DG dirt drains low end and can leave your tone sounding insipid (dare I say metal) if you're not careful, particularly with J basses. So either clean blend or bass boost is very welcome to preserve the bottom end.
  2. 2) What's the basis of saying that BF are exaggerating? 4) Agreed - I was getting confused with the BF SM which is the compact BF with the higher HF freq response 5) I also believe the earth to be round and not flat. But hey maybe that's just me and TJ? 😁 I do fully agree with your subsequent post that if you were putting two cabs together then similar speaker sizes / power ratings and makes, seem to provide the safest option. Have a good hols!
  3. But the gaps in your posts take up an inordinate amount of space on our screens! 😁 I'm guessing that makes sense when using your newly acquired red and gold MB finery. But I presume absolutely no need with your DG M900 where you have this in the amp already?
  4. Entirely appropriate garment wear then! Anyway connecting your jumper to the thread: fortunately I already have plenty of EQ options on bass, HX Stomp and amp so there is no chance in Hell's bells that I will ever be forking out £300 to £400 on any of the DG overpriced ultra pedals. Seamless 😁
  5. While gigging in the summer heat and when not actually playing rock?! (Pls remind me what genre you play through your BF one10s?) In which case Osiris has a point...
  6. Haha! Me and other DG amp owners don't always gig in daft jumpers. IIRC Osiris you did try the DG M900 for like 23 mins in a store, so didn't really put it through its paces? Clean channel really is very good: I've come to appreciate that when 'clean' means 'clean' I can hear what my bass sounds like underneath. The power on tap is immense - you're never going to lack for headroom. Wiser folk have been rabbiting on forever about how a touch of 'always on' dirt adds to the sound - I'm finally (18 months in) starting to appreciate what they have been getting at. With the B3K at 2/10 and P or PJ pups it adds a bit of compressed harmonic complexity (with built in hpf) to the bass tone which just lets the bass cut through a bit more in a band mix. I guess I've gone from skeptic about this amp to concluding that it's actually a very very good piece of kit.
  7. We heard back from the organiser a short while back (they seem pretty disorganised). Turns out (after all that!) that there is a half decent PA on site but we still need to: "You bring your own back-line and instruments, mics, monitors, mixer, stands and plug into the house PA. & your lights, please." There was an understandable 'FFS!' from the drummer when we got the follow up message, not least as he had started making enquiries about hiring kit! On the plus side, I quite like the Plan B option - effectively using a second bass cab as a sub woofer. FRFR in reverse
  8. Can't argue with that! Have to admit if I was looking to pair my BF SC with another cab it would likely be either another BF SC or the BF SM which chris_b is finding works really well as a pairing.
  9. +1 ^^ So I took the HB 35 along and got our guitarist to put it through his paces at rehearsal tonight (50s / 60s set). Sounded a darn sight better than when I'm playing it - haha! His view was that a Gibson 335 would certainly be a bit better but not likely to be 5 or 6 times better and that the quality of Gibs has been very variable over the past decade. He also thinks the pups on the new ES 235 look really good.
  10. I'm going to put the counter, if I may, which is: 1) you have a 12" and 10" cab moving air, not one 12". 2) the one 10 can handle up to 500W clean. Add a matching 500W through the SC (assuming they are both 8 ohm iirc) and you have 1000W power handling capacity. 3) Most amps max out at below that and who dials up their amps to 10/10 anyway? Most likely you're going to be putting nearer 200W to 250W (max) through each and still being very loud. 4) You also have the higher frequency range of the one 10 on tap. 5) If TJ is actually using this in practice, seems to me that's a vote of confidence of actual experience over theoretical objections?
  11. Why so good sir? Surely just be a case of having one of them a little further back on stage behind me (doubling up as a stage bass monitor) so I can hear myself? I'll be tightly locked into the kick drum for once...😂
  12. Nice bass 😉
  13. And a tasty little Vox amp to boot!
  14. Agreed for the sub woofer route. Plan B with bass & kick drum mixed into bass amp and two decent, pretty transparent, 112s should however provide a full frequency spectrum up to 4 kHz in the case of the BF SC and right up the freq scale in the case of the Fearless 112 with its 5" mid speaker and 1" tweeter. Two separated bass speakers should provide pretty decent dispersion too. Any reason this Plan B shouldn't work? If this second option does work then the we've got a ready made solution we can roll at any time for no additional cost, which would be great.
  15. I've mostly grown out of burst, but that black burst ES 235 is particularly lovely! IMO, YMMV...
  16. How about one of these finishes instead?
  17. That's a good shout in terms of hiring. I was thinking in terms of a "cheap Plan B" we could simply put the kick drum and bass through a mini mixer --> bass amp (my DG M900 has plenty of headroom) --> 2 bass cabs, to deal with Bill's 'more than one' point. I have a BF SC and a Fearless F112 (both 8 ohm) which could be daisy chained. We could potentially then put the DI out from the amp into the PA for additional top end, but I'm not sure that would benefit the low end much and I'd prefer to keep the PA for the vocals.
  18. Yup - got a Behringer DI400P ready to pop under board. But following on from @LukeFRC's comment about the Orchid DI, I'm guessing that a DI is like any other bit of kit i.e. if you're looking for quality, you need to pay a bit more?
  19. Just recently been asked to play a couple of gigs at a large venue (Wembley Box-Park) in August. We've been asked to provide the PA - currently we use RCF 310As which are great for vocals and acoustic, but no so much for the kick drum. Backline for bass and lead guitar. Not looking to replace the 310As with something completely new, rather just adding a quality sub for occasional use into the mix. Please do let me know what you would recommend if you have a separate sub in your set up?
  20. Anyone put one of these Baby Sumo's on their pedal board? I'm guessing they're actually a little too big height wise to fit into most cases?
  21. Neat little amp. GLWTS!
  22. Totally agree. I'd get one in a boring Lucille black if I was splashing out. Agree with that too! Hope (for the sake of my wallet) that my HB-35 is not too obviously inferior tonight! 😀
  23. I've got one of our guitarists taking along his ES-339 to rehearsal tonight (obviously sought his views on this to) and I'll try to remember to take my Washburn HB-35 along - be interested to see what he thinks of them in terms of tone and playability etc.
  24. Welcome to the dark side. You never need see or hear red on your board again...
  25. +1 ^^ Surely part of the answer is how much you're looking for your amp and cab to colour your tone? I'm personally very happy with clean amp + uncoloured cab to faithfully reflect what's being put through them. Allows the tone of the bass and pups (and strings) to shine through. And if I want to add any further 'flavour' I've got a bunch of pedals for that.
