  1. Great that you're loving your (my former!) 425. They are remarkably good basses for the money! What is about getting a 425 that makes folk want to jump straight to the top end of the Yammy range?! @dave_bass5 bought another 425 off me (yes, ok, I seem to be turning into a used 425 salesman 😁) and got himself a P34 before I could say "TI Flats"! But I'm not sure I see the jump from 425 straight to a BB2025 as being an 'obvious' one. Certainly not something I personally would rush into doing, because I suspect you could get to 95% of the 'sound' of a 2025 with a BB1025 for 40% of the cost; they are identical in terms of pups, woods, EQ and construction. The 'additional' that a 2025 brings to the party is (i) being MIJ and (ii) it has had two specialist sonic treatments. Some may think that warrants charging 3 times the price, but I'm not in that camp and I've certainly been very happy indeed with my 1025. The modern day take on the 2025, with lighter tuners, is the P35 and as that is a in-production model you could give one a spin and see what you think. The P35 is given one of the two sonic treatments that the 2025 had, but has an updated set of pups and VVT controls rather than selector switch. It's pretty close in sound to the 1025, but not identical and my guess is that the 1025 is going to be the closest tonally and in feel to the 2025.
  2. If you were looking for an entree to Rush, then I guess Spirit of Radio would be as good a starting point as any? But is that cheating? 😊
  3. Haha. And some of us still play live music in bands with real instruments too and not a laptop in sight! 😂
  4. Nice 425 - glad to see it's still going strong!
  5. When the GAS runs out the van comes off the road.
  6. Ok cheers John, might be worth my getting in touch with them for a steer on this.
  7. That's fine if these basses were readily in stock. But seems to me you can only get one of these Jackson signatures if you specifically order one. Which I would be happy to do if I had rough idea of weight. Chicken and egg eh? We all appreciate that there will be some variation but it would be good to have a ball park idea to save wasting everyone's time. Complete aside: there's a lovely bubinga Warwick fretless in the FS but sadly it weighs as much as a neutron star...
  8. ...just asked the Fender sales rep who fobbed me off on the weight, to put just one of these basses (5ers) on the scale on the understanding that YMMV etc! If the weight of a bass is something we all feel entirely reasonable to ask each other when buying used basses, surely it's even more reasonable when we're paying a new bass 'premium' on top? Not sure why manufacturers can't understand that?

@jrixn1 - that's a good Q from Pete, likely to be of wider interest. If you fancy also posting your suggestion on here, that would be ace!
  10. You clearly wanted a child and a roof over head more. I'm disappointed at your priorities 😁
  11. There's one in the FS right now on for a really good price!
  12. I'd say the starting point is think about your existing sound and tone and ask yourself is anything missing? If there is, a pedal maybe able to step into the breach. Plenty of gigging bass players are very happy to go straight from the bass to their amps without any pedals in between. If you've got a good bass with decent pups and strings and a decent amp and cab you may well find you've already got a tone that you, your band and audiences already really like! A preamp pedal is certainly not 'necessary' if your amp has a decent pre, but may give you a difference in tone. Agreed that many bassists can't live without a compressor on their board; an equal number are very happy without. You could easily end up spending a small fortune on pedals, before you do a great way to dip your toe into the water and find out whether particular pedals might add something is to get a multifx e.g. the Zoom B14
  13. This drum machine is one that is giving me a serious bout of GAS...
  14. Can't argue with any of that!
  15. That is a tasty Jackson! More than a passing resemblance to a Schecter or is that just my eyes playing tricks on me?
  16. You're really not helping are you? 😂
  17. Given that it's been part of the Fender stable of brands for the best part of two decades does it have a reputation for being any more or less reliable / build quality than Fender basses?
  18. Is that Italian or Indonesian spaghetti?
  19. Well, I can only speak for myself but there was something about the tonal richness and weight balance of my P35 that meant that I found myself not wanting to pick up my 735A any longer. Likely to be all relatively subtle and hard to put my finger on it. Agree that for me, personally, it wouldn't justify the difference in new prices, but buying used the price differential narrowed.
  20. Sounds to me like it's worth every penny then... Hey PB - welcome to BC! FWIW I got the P35 and that was a big reason for me moving on my 735A. But Dave's final point is true, the rest of the range is really good and a LOT of bass for the money and I'm struggling to justify having both my P35 and a BB 1025 which I love using live (but I think I've managed to find a ruse to keeping both )
  21. Interesting you say that - I think it's definitely more noticeable through headphones than a speaker. But not sure how relevant the more easily heard 'double beat' is to bass in that you won't get a double note but rather a delayed note and, as others have mentioned, surely that can be addressed by just hitting the string a fraction of a second earlier and you would be sub-consciously doing that in real time anyway? But with my lot using an analogue ZED FX mixer and going through to PA / not using IEMs, this just has never been an issue on any gig to date (or certainly not one anyone has ever mentioned).
  22. Ooooh, please do fess up! I've recently had my head turned by the new Jackson signature line which seems to be Fender drawing reverse inspiration from Yammy for once - says something about the quality of Yammys! Yammy headstock, PJ config and 3 band EQ. And pricing puts it head to head with the Yammy BB 735A. The Jackson has reverse P set up, a 35" scale and easy access truss rod adjustment, but is active only. The Yammy is 34" and has (much liked) passive as well as active. Yammy's pups are great, as we know, but I'm hoping that the active EMGs on the Jackson will, in Spector fashion, have quite a kick. And the Jackson does come in a tasty white...
  23. Oh wow down to a 1/4 Trav!! We're going to need a new yardstick...😂 I'm sooo in two minds about moving my P35 mine on (a great bass, but on the other hand my 1025 is more than good enough / still brings a grin to my face when I play...), hence the question about stringing one with flats. I suspect that flats are going to open up a whole new dimension to the P35 and give a completely different feel to the 1025. And having made the schoolboy error of not selling my old 5 bass rack when I upgraded to a 7 bass rack, there is "unfortunately" still accessible storage capacity in the Krow bass-ment!
  24. Cheers John, yup that was 'floppy' character was commented on as a feature of the TI Flats. Grateful if I could ask for the gauge of your Dunlops and where you are buying yours from, please? If anyone has one of these it's likely to be the Mr BB himself @AndyTravis
