Oh we did! ... the light hearted banter sadly got lost in a bunch of folk seeing red (and gold) and discussions about the unimportance of low end crud. W@eude you have believed it?

Here you go. I use my Low EQ in combination with GlamComp (= Spectracomp) and Zoom Noise Reduction together to form a default 'Clean' patch. Low EQ Glam Comp ZNR

Hi John, yes I have indeed! I'll dig out my settings for you and posted in the next couple of days.

I had a little A/B of my 5'ers last night - I'm really happy with them all, but...the articulation of the KS is something else. I'm guessing it's simply down to a combination of the quality of the strings, pups, electronics and nut but I was finding it hard to deny the evidence of my ears! Is that something the rest of you KS owners also find when you're playing your KS alongside the rest of your herd?

Sold a pedal to Ben. Pleasure to deal with: prompt payment and really good comms, including confirmation of receipt. Hope you enjoy the pedal! Cheers, Bas

Elegantly simple! Like it

I've previously used a TC BG250 115 for rock band rehearsals and more recently seen a 210 used with a full jazz brass band outdoors, and the bass could easily be heard. If the rest of your band are on the louder side, I'd probably want to go for something like the Fender Rumble 500 to give myself a bit more headroom.

You're quite right! Plenty of low end, for me = a) BB NE2 by itself with the very slightest of boost to the bass EQ (what the heck has the NE2 got under its bonnet?) b) Any other bass with the Mesa M6 'pull' (boosted) bass OR "Sub 3" Zvex Mastotron switch engaged. All of the above with a Thumpinator at the start of the chain. If I want to get into something like DOD Meatbox territory then doubling up on two of the above. Agree that you need a cab that can drink up low end - the Berg CN 212 and, even more, the Fearless F112 both can. @uk_lefty spoke about using this sort of sound sparingly. Absolutely. It's defo not my regular sound which, you'll be pleased to hear, typically involves a touch of bass cut and mid boost. If it was my stock sound I suspect my home would lack windows and my ears, drums.

Oh I've been a lost cause for a lot more reasons than just this. Mrs Krow will happily vouch for that with or without a sponsorship deal.

The EQ centre points on the Mark King are not nearly as good as that red and gold so called 'monstrosity' that Mr @fretmeister bought. But tbf Mark King probably has no idea what the centre points on his signature MB amp are... If I was getting a MB amp head it would be the 800W (or 1000W) 'fugly' red and gold one every time with plenty of head room for boosting those unpleasant low end frequencies (whilst cutting out the < 28 Hz crud using a Thumpinator).
-
Do you think this chap had anything much to do with his signature model other than picking up a cheque? 😉
-
Ah brand awareness. If all you saw of this rig in the distance was this, would you know who made it? Seamlessly back on topic 😂
-
Again, genuine question, but what's the commercial rationale for making an amp where only one person's views on it matters?
-
@eude the dude slagged off the appearance of MB amps, various of you jumped on the band wagon. I said that an amp's looks don't matter if it sounds great and, just to prove that looks are subjective, I suggested that the naysayers told us what a great looking amp looked like. They retorted the Mesa M6 and DG M900 were the best looking, at which point I realised I am surprisingly shallow as these were actually the two amp heads I currently own Oh yes, then @burno70 had the temerity to say he thought the Ashdown GB looked great (which btw it does). Then all hell broke loose (probably due to the 666W connection in the amp of doom). Again. ...😂 🤣

PMT are retailing the GB for £829

Genuinely interested in what set up you are using to get a great sounding sub bass?
-
Haha, yes I was thinking exactly that as I edited my post... 😄
-
@EBS_freak - can't argue with any of your reply to my last post! ... except that engaging the Sub 3 (low) generator on my Zvez Mastotron + Thumpinator + "pull" (= boosted) bass on my Mesa M6, with a cab that can handle low end really well e.g. Fearless F112 produces a BIG low end that is surprisingly 'tasty', without being mushy or boomy. I'm guessing that the sub harmonics generator on the Ashdown would be doing something similar?

This very attractive BB2004 went up for sale earlier today and was snapped within hours of being listed! Looking forward to finding out who the (lucky!) new owner is. Mentions in the description both 2 band EQ and 3 band EQ - I'm guessing 2 band if it has a variable mid cut similar to the NE2 given that it has overall one less knob than the NE2. It even has the sought after reverse P set up! 😍
-
Yup quite, particularly as the subs are controllable via a footswitch. It's a bit like saying you could never use an octaver in a set to thicken up your sound. I agree with burno's comments: the Geezer does look fantastic as a piece of design. It also has a 9 band EQ + valve preamp. Same price bracket as many (quality) D class heads, including the MB amps being discussed in this thread. If Ashdown cut the weight from its current 31 lbs by removing the feature set which allows Geezer Butler to power his 12 (!!!) on stage cabinets - which is redundant for most of us mere mortal bassists, by releasing a 'Geezer Lite' then I suspect they could have a big winner on their hands. Something in this thread seems to have made EBS_freak see red. IMO there are a whole bunch of other reasons for pub bassists across the land sounding utterly cack, if indeed they do, and it has nothing to do with Ashdown's amps! 😂

The TC BG250 210 should also tick all the boxes. Even has a built in tuner. New for just under £300, so will leave him enough spare cash for a beer or two at the college bar after his gigs
