  1. Bought a Tele bass scratchplate from Paul on Tuesday. As always it was a hassle free experience ๐Ÿ™‚
  2. Might be worth searching for the Freya Guitars version. They are an Irish outfit with the same business model.
  3. I'm still using the Korg Pandora ๐Ÿ™‚
  4. They did some good colour options. Probably too many since they went bust after a couple of years ๐Ÿ™
  5. I've seen a couple use guitar rail pickups, they hid the rails with gold covers. Looked bloody awful ๐Ÿคฃ Best bet is ask one of the UK lads to build you one. It's much cheaper than you'd think.
  6. I stuck a Peavey SF in one, being ceramic it was a bit brighter and louder. That wasn't a planned change, dropped a chisel and the wider SF footprint hid the scar ๐Ÿคฃ There's not much to the electrics, 2 pots and a cap. 1 has a 0.1uf cap but that's the opposite of what you're looking for ๐Ÿ™‚ Try swapping the 250K tone pot for a 500k, should add some bite ๐Ÿ‘
  7. There's some guff about "radiation/wiring regs" but I think the real reason is SD's No Returns policy doesn't hold water in the EU ๐Ÿ˜€ Once I saw the price then estimated postage, allowed for VAT,import tax and lousy exchange rates it was a relief to spot the no EU sales ๐Ÿ˜„
  8. Brilliant,I was going to ask what hides below the neck pickup cover,. Now I'll just wait and see what you find ๐Ÿ˜€
  9. @Dam1903 That looks absolutely fantastic.
  10. How did you get it ? Seymour Duncan won't sell direct to the EU and their "International Dealers" link is a blank page. BTW my Bloodstone 29.9k version is in series too, never saw the point of a split single going parallel.
  11. I've tried plenty of 51 single coils. The Seymour Duncan Antiquity was a nice pickup though quite low output. The Duncan 1/4 lb'er,ยฃ80 odd and wave goodbye to your mids .No thanks ๐Ÿ˜ Herricks split single and single. Good looking pickups, fairly strong output, nice even response across the strings. Jess Loureiro's split single is the same, have that fella in my duck egg P-bass. The old Wilkinson single was a bloody great pickup, think Duncan Antiquity only a wee bit louder. The Roswell, now in the Harley Benton PB-50. Looks weird having 1/4" poles like the Duncan 1/4 lb'er. Lower wire count so it's basically a Duncan 1/4 lb'er only you still have mids ๐Ÿ‘ The ยฃ8 Chinese alnico 5 ? Another louder Antiquity ๐Ÿ˜„ A real eye opener that had me question single coils with ยฃ80 price tags ๐Ÿคฃ The folks making these don't have advertising costs NAMM booths to pay for which might explain the difference . Current favourite is Bloodstone Guitarworks. The 51 staggered pole impressed me so when I fancied a change I had a word with Dave . The change was another split single only this time overwound. Overwound to 29.9k ohm to be exact ๐Ÿ˜ฑ An out of the ordinary request and a bit of a challenge. Lucky me, Dave likes a challenge ๐Ÿ˜ A completely custom pickup delivered in 4 days. Won't say the price but it was a lot less than anything coming from the USA ๐Ÿ˜Ž Here's the monster next to it's wee cousin ๐Ÿ™‚
  12. I got an email from Brian last night. He's trying to update his ebay inventory while working through the orders backlog. Best course of action would be just ask him. I've hand cut a 3 ply Tele PG before ,not an experience I fancy repeating ๐Ÿ˜€
  13. Thanks. It came in handy, when things got tough and I was stressed I just blamed the bass ๐Ÿ˜ I'm pretty sure the PG maker I was talking to last Sunday has the template.
  14. The blonde was one discreet did a couple of years back. It's the Paisley Pink Torpedo from year before last. Was never happy with the end product. Stripped it back and refinished it last summer. The old man had lung cancer and I needed something to work on in between toilet trips, bed changes etc. He went downhill that fast I couldn't afford delivery times. Colour was decided by what B&M had in stock ๐Ÿ˜€
  15. You're welcome ๐Ÿ™‚ Single coil P-basses and Tele basses are my favourites. I've built a few so have an idea what works and what doesn't. There's another couple of single coils in the early planning stages, if I can sort out the humbucker issue I'll knock up a Tele bass too. Don't give up hope ๐Ÿ‘
  16. @meterman If you want a Telebass I'm afraid you either buy one or build one. The PB-50 is a great bass, owned about 6 of them. It's not a Telebass. Buying one to mod as Telebass is quite a task, even if you can find the wide humbucker. You need a much bigger pickguard to hide the single coil hole,or you fill it and do a re-finish. Some folks think the Artec Mudbucker might work. String spacings are totally different. Here it is in two positions. The DiMarzio Willpower or The One are no good as they are the opposite of a Mudbucker, they are wound to be clean and bright. Another fella makes a version called the UnMudbucker.
  17. I was helping a fella in Glasgow expand his PG range last week. One of the PG's I took through was from a PB-50. Turned out my timing was good as he'd a PB-50 PG to cut but only had a cardboard template from the client to work from ๐Ÿ™‚ As a wee thank you, Brian asked if I'd like a vintage white PG. Mine was the original black covered with Fablon ๐Ÿ˜ A white PG on a burst bass doesn't make an exciting photo so here's the important bits. Fit round the neck. Fit round the control plate. Needless to say the screw holes matched up perfectly. Plenty of colour options,with/without tugbar, pre-drilled or DIY screw holes. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Harley-Benton-PB-50-Bass-Pickguard-PB-50-scratchplate-many-colours/114233957501?hash=item1a98dfdc7d:m:m68gcGIS2tiGkIYfb-eIZ_g
  18. I've been singing the praises of the PB-50 for years. Bought one from the first run back in 2014,just to see what ยฃ76 got you. Life changing moment ๐Ÿ˜ฎHardly touched anything else since ,own 4 of them now ๐Ÿ™‚
  19. I'd leave well alone,you've a done a grand job๐Ÿ™‚
  20. Looking good, can't wait to see the finished product ๐Ÿ˜Š
  21. Cheers for the link. Signed the Canada/UN petition. Zero interest in PF so ignored the rest ๐Ÿ™‚
  22. Carolina pine or shortleaf. It's not really fair to describe it as "softwood" it's harder than alder and about 1/3rd heavier. It's a great timber. I made a slab body from longleaf. I'd say the reason folks don't use it is everybody thinks eastern white pine or the Scots pine we have here. Weight is another thing, plenty pine varieties are heavy. This fella is over 12.6lbs.
  23. Take the punt ๐Ÿ™‚ Old thread about Jayro.
  24. That's kind of fierce but then Bach charge โ‚ฌ433 for their pine body Riverboat models. Aye โ‚ฌ433 for pine ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
