Sorry, 4 string player only. Well usually 2 strings!

Gotta agree. I thought Beats were all just a lot of hype but last year I bought a pair for £70 from Currys and while they are the cheapest ones I think, they are a great piece of kit.

Ah the old honeymoon period. We have all been there, some of us many times 😊

I had Tower of power SWR head a few years ago. Something like 700 watts but it weighed a bloomin ton. Got it for £200 from GG as it had a bit of the black paint missing from the front panel. Moved it on for £160 like a mug.

I bought this recently from GG, second hand in a moment of madness! I have owned T birds in the past and don`t really get on with them due to the shape. So time to try and cut my loses and move it on. Below is the details from an ad I have posted elsewhere. Epiphone Thunderbird classic iv Pro bass guitar. Not to be confused with the cheaper bolt on Epi Tbird. This is very much like it`s Gibson brother without the eye watering price tag. Featuring a 7 ply mahogany and walnut neck through design with mahogany wings. Fitted with US Gibson T bird humbucking pickups as fitted to the US model. This one is nice and light. It`s in really good condition just a couple of small marks on the very end of the headstock, a small chip on the back about a quarter of an inch long and the previous owner must have had a pickup cover fitted over the bridge pickup, possibly to rest his hand on and that is the reason for the black screw on the body above the pickup. It has a fake Gibson truss rod cover fitted, the Epiphone one will be included. It also has a new Thomann quality gig bag that is made for this model. So there it is. It`s originally a £400 bass, US pickups with a brand new gig bag for £250. I`m not into posting this as the last time I posted a bass it was too much stress so please don`t ask. I am in Paisley but I don`t mind travelling a bit for a meet up. Any questions just ask. Ta.

To be honest, I cant tell any difference. Nice playing,

Squier Vintage Modified Jazz vs Bass Collection Jive Bass
jezzaboy replied to Bettencourt's topic in Bass Guitars
I went through this a few months ago: looking for a cheap Jazz that was still good. After asking around, it came down to the J and D bass from dv247 which gets some love on here at about £130 or a Sire. In the end up I went for a Marcus Miller Sire V3 at £240. It knocks the Squiers into a cocked hat as they say. It`s a bit heavy but it`s such good value. Check them out at Andertons or Thomman. I should add that if your are set on a Squire, the VM 77 in black with maple neck I owned a couple of years ago was a nice piece of kit. -
First Band what amp set up (purchase made)
jezzaboy replied to Slappindabass's topic in General Discussion
The way I look at it is Discreet on here highly rates the Rumble and he has changed his amp set up more than I have my underpants!! So I bought one and he was right! Having said all that, amps and cabs are a very personal thing and all opinions are subjective. For instance, there is lots of love for TE gear but I owned a AH600 head and wasn`t keen on the sound at all, it took me ages to get a decent sound when playing a gig. Plus the combo`s weigh a bloomin ton which has been said already. -

Get a Fender Rumble 500. Light, sounds ace, 350 watts on it`s own, can be set up in a few seconds and you can add an extension cab if you want the full 500 watts. For me, for pub gigs you can`t beat it. -

Leaving Florence on Monday only to miss...
jezzaboy replied to skidder652003's topic in General Discussion
For around 20 years I was a big Tull fan but like another of my favourite bands - Rush, time has not been kind to the singers voice. One person described Ian`s voice as sounding "like a drunk uncle at auntie Flo`s 80th birthday!" And Ian said in an interview a few years ago, without Martin Barre, it`s not Tull. Oh how right he is! -

I wouldn`t worry about missing Tull too much. Ian`s voice has been shot for years and Martin Barre ain`t playing guitar so it`s not Tull for me. It would be like Yes touring without Jon Anderson! Oh, hang on a minute 😲 -
Turning a valve preamp circuit into a standalone preamp?
jezzaboy replied to swansongrecords's topic in Amps and Cabs
It`s a pity that the Behringher, Ampeg clone (bvt 4500) that was kicking about Thomman a while back isn`t available now for the crazy price it was. You could have stuck a power amp and pre in there no problem as the bottom section was empty and it looked like a Ampeg SVT. There are a few threads on it on this forum. I had one and sold it for £50. I should have kept a hold of it on reflection. -
The Glenleven inn in Kilbarchan. I played there one a few years ago with a pop/rock covers band and had to watch the volume. The noise meter cut the power if you even whispered to loud. A right pain in the nether regions. Fast forward a few years. We turn up on a Saturday night. No effort by the pub to promote the gig, nobody in the pub and a noise meter. The the landlord explains he has been getting lots of complaints about the noise from residents. And we are a acdc tribute act. I never even took my gear from the car. The guy didn`t seem to give a toss either.

The V3`s are the best value Jazz type bass out there. I had one and after a few mods, tuners and knobs - not really required but I had the parts kicking around, it was an excellent bass for £100 less than a VM Jazz. It has the same pre amp as the V7. I only moved it on due to moving to short scales.

Albums which haven't aged all that well
jezzaboy replied to EliasMooseblaster's topic in General Discussion
The Rush albums from the late 80`s - early 90`s. Hold your fire, Roll the bones, Presto etc. I tried to play them the other day but the production is terrible and the lyrics that at the time were meaningful, just sound like tosh to me now. Still love the 70`s and early 80`s stuff. -
Agree. The V3 2 x 10 combo isn`t lacking in bass. I did a pub gig last night and had the bass knob at about 1 o`clock and it was shaking the room. Until I was asked to turn down slightly. Spoilsports.

I have always had good service from Stringsdirect. Decent prices and large stock. And next day delivery on stock stuff.

Eric Clapton film - BBC 2 Saturday 6th June 2020
jezzaboy replied to casapete's topic in General Discussion
I agree. Blind Faith barley gets a mention, how it started and fell apart, same with Delaney and Bonnie. To much time spend on his affair with Patti Boyd that could have been spent on the music and musicians. -

Tribute bands - where the name is better than the band
jezzaboy replied to Happy Jack's topic in General Discussion
The Glasgow version of the Feelgood`s, Dr Feelguid! Got to say it in a Glasweigan accent. Good band, seen them a few times -
Is it possible to "upgrade" from the US MFD pickups? I have had a few Tribs and always thought they were the best part of the bass. I don`t even know if you can get replacements the same size. I would try and find the cause of the unwanted noise and take it from there. Just seen your post above. If you really like the bass, getting someone to look at it wouldn`t be that expensive, then you can take it from there.

I bought a Markbass cab from them earlier this year and got a conformation of purchase but nowt regarding postage, couriers etc. It did turn up in a couple of days though. In this internet age, it was a bit disappointing. And the packing was shocking: they had put the cab in a box and it looked like they had just threw in some small air bags and polystyrene in with the cab, no protection at all really. But the cab was fine.

Just completed a sale with Tom for my BB. I couldn`t deliver the bass to him for a week but he insisted on paying for the bass in full right away. I have never had any dealings with Tom in our time on here but he sent the payment through the same night to someone he didn`t know! Very quick at getting back to you and overall a pleasure to deal with. Thanks Tom and enjoy the BB. Gerry
