  1. Play the Stingray instead of the P bass? Lots of bite from a Ray.
  2. One of the guys local to me had their van and drum kit stolen from the Premier Inn in Walsall. He plays for the Bay City Rollers and the kit has a tartan design so if any of you guys down that way can spread the word it would be appreciated. This is the facebook post. Thanks URGENT - TO ALL DRUMMERS Our Head of Music Thomas Jamie McGrory has had his drums stolen from the Premier Inn in Walsall. The van has gone too, it is a white crewvan. He plays for the Bay City Rollers and is currently on tour. The drumkit is hand painted with a tartan design and is the only one of its kind in the world. I don’t need to tell you he is devastated. If you hear or see anything please phone the police. Words fail me, I just feel sick because I know how much he loved this drum kit. DRUMMERS OF WORLD PLEASE SHARE and keep a look out - Thank You, Tommy
  3. In my experience they do sod all checks. I bought a new G&L Tribute a few years back and it had a good few faults and a few days later after I returned it, it was listed for sale in the shop as B stock. I`m guessing if you are buying a bog standard Fender or similar they don`t even open the box, if you are buying something expensive they will check it. I`m thinking they don`t have the staff to check each guitar they send out. One of the downsides of buying from a large box shifter operation.
  4. I have a Squier shipping box that is now not req so if you can collect from Paisley by Saturday you can have it.
  5. Stop press!!! Oasis have just announced that Adam Clayton will be playing bass on the concerts so all the haters on Basschat can get their fix all at once!
  6. I was watching a band last night in a small pub and this is what was happening. When the bass player used his low B it was a most unpleasant.
  7. Wrong tuners, dodgy transfer on the headstock and truss rod access at the headstock by the looks of it? Dodgy neck so the rest is prob dodgy as well.
  8. Bought this on here a couple of months back and it`s a great example of a P bass but an expensive incoming bass means I`ve gotta shift some stuff. This is a 2013 Mexican model in honey blonde. It has the vintage specs, 44 mm nut width, all gloss neck, vintage style pickup, vintage reverse open gear tuners and a gold ionized aluminium scratch plate which as you can see isn`t fitted as I like the contrast with the black better. The original will be supplied. The bridge was changed out sometime in the past and I don`t have the original BBOT. It has a few dings: one on the rear, a few on the body edge and one on the back of the neck. The bass weighs 9.4 LB`s. It will come in a brand new basic Thomman gig bag and the price includes shipping to a UK address, if you can collect from Paisley I will knock off the postage costs. I bought the bass for my asking price and most of these seem to start up higher in price but usually end up going for around £500.
  9. Good point. On the GG page down at the bottom there is a SUB Ray for £399. I realise that is pretty cheap for one of these now as most seem to be around £430 but they are much better than this new model.
  10. Agreed. I like SBMM but these are quite ugly, just doesn`t look right without the control plate and it seems to draw my eyes towards the ugly bridge . I wonder who they are aiming this model at?
  11. Tough selling these days. Now £300 posted to UK and £280 collected. Will also include a new Thomman cheapo gig bag.
  12. My band doesn`t have a leader as such but I would say that 3 out of the 5 of us have more to do with the running of it. But this morning I have had to cancel a gig we were doing in a couple of weeks with another band due to one of our members having a personal issue. We don`t use deps, tried in the past and it`s not worth the hassle. Felt bloomin rotten telling the other BL we couldn`t do the gig but he seemed ok about it. I`m too much of a worrier to do the sole BL thing.
  13. I will post it to UK mainland for £320 from next week when I will have some suitable packaging. If you want to collect you can have it for £300.
  14. Same here. As well as owning all the pa, I seem to be the only one who carries any spares. It does get on my wick sometimes when I`m trying to get the pa up and running and the 2 guitarist`s are faffing about getting their "tone" sorted instead of helping with the set up. But maybe they are better out of it as they would knacker the gear due to not knowing single thing about it.
  15. It does work well for bass but the only thing I would say is if you intend to use it to replace your amp on occasion, try and buy the best one you can afford. RCF, QSC and Yamaha are all good. I used a 15 inch RCF as I play in a rock band but I wouldn`t go any smaller than a 12 inch active speaker.
  16. For sale only a as new Classic Vibe Jazz. It is a ltd edition model and is a higher spec than the usual CV. It features a bound neck, Kluson type machine heads, bone nut, gloss finish neck, narrow tall frets, painted headstock, full size pots, 4 ply scratch plate and 4 saddle vintage style bridge. The laurel board is nice and dark and could pass for rosewood. It weighs in at 10 lb`s so not the lightest. The white is not as bright as it appears in the photo`s.
  17. My main rig for the last few years has been an RCF 715 with various pre amps going into it but recently I bought a s/h Rumble 500. I had one a few years back and sold it but I used it on our last gig and it sounded great, filled the room easily without going through the pa so I will use this as my go to for a while.
  18. I have gigged a SBMM Sub Ray for the last few years and they are great basses. I have stuck a EMG pickup in it and it sounds fine. Put it this way, I bought a 3 band Japanese Stingray that was almost 3 times the price of the Sub but I like the Sub more so the Jap one went.
  19. We played a pub in Glasgow city centre on Sat and they want 3 x 45 mins sets. Personally I would rather do 2 x 1 hour and a bit as it easier to keep the punters on side.
  20. There`s a nice BB 404 second hand in Richtone for £149. https://richtonemusic.co.uk/yamaha-bb-404-bass-wine-red-2nd-hand/
  21. This exactly. If you want to be in a covers band that actually does gigs (some like the idea but end up being a rehearsal band) and gets asked back then you have to compromise over song choices. I was in a band and a guitarist left with the severe hump as we wouldn`t do a version of One by U2 as it died on it`s derriere every time we played it. Likewise I didn`t join a band after the drummer said that he hated Oasis and refused to play any of their songs. It`s the entertainment business and if you want to make a go of it, give your audience what it wants to hear not what you like.
  22. Ta guys!
  23. So I was tuning up my BB 1100 the other day and noticed that the bottom piece of the peg seems to have separated from the main part. I have owned a few older BB`s and haven`t seen this. As I know that these can be hard to get, does anyone have any ideas?
  24. Oooh, rolled fingerboard edges, which you can have on a Sire P bass for less than half the price and the return of rosewood but apart from that not much difference from the old models. And £839?
