  1. Re the Blondie comments. Have you ever played a gig sometimes and you think that your band played below par yet the punters loved it? I have always maintained that most musicians who play gigs, listen to live music differently to your normal non muso punter. We can be very critical about ourselves and others as our singer never fails to tell us! I sometimes yearn for the days when the experience of being at an event and listening to a great band was all that I cared about. But Blondie should defo knock it on the head!
  2. Just a wee tip if you are sending gear back. I always take plenty of photo`s of the product, then of it back in the box and the box itself. Might not do any good if an issue comes up but it might help.
  3. Just watched the Pretenders on the i player and really enjoyed it. Their recent single, Let the sun come in was great and Johnny Marr is the coolest guy in music. Sod playing bass on that gig, as you look to your right there is Macca watching you
  4. If I remember right I had to drill a couple of new holes but as I had no intention of removing these, the old holes will never be seen. They really are great tuners.
  5. Here we have a great example of a rare Ashdown bass head. This is a UK built 400 watts model from 2002 and is in superb condition as you can see. The previous owner was DGBass on here and reckons it is the best example of this amp he has seen and the man knows his stuff. Here is a quote from the man himself from when I posted it on the Show your rig topic last year. "Yes these amps used the same ABM power stage as the ABM's of the time used. I know this amp well and it's history. It was purchased new in 2002 by a dude called Nick from Wales and he used it in his band, Welsh rockers "Clipper" for nearly eighteen years without a single issue. It travelled all over the UK and mainland Europe in its gigging life. It ended up coming north a few years ago and was fully rebuilt/serviced and is quite possibly the best example of a MAG400 head in the UK currently. I used it as a rehearsal amp and gigged it briefly (between ABM's.) It's a cracking amp!" Always nice to know the history of these things. I`m looking for £150 collected from Paisley or local meet up. If you want it posted, I have a suitable box but you can arrange the collection and any insurance.
  6. Tough times for sellers at the moment so price drop to £450 collected.
  7. In our acdc tribute band, it`s kind of expected that Cliff and Mal did the backing vocals so we do them but we are both murder at it to be honest. But I have heard live radio shows from the late 70`s and the guys were equally as bad so we just carry on regardless. I thought about going for lessons but up here they charge £30 for 30 mins! Or else they want you to book a block of 10 or similar so we have put it on the back burner but it`s something I would like to be able to do well.
  8. Oky doky, I now have a suitable shipping box so I will do £500 posted to UK mainland address or will knock off the postage if collected.
  9. That looks ridiculous! Tartan on a seat, what were they thinking of???
  10. Well we managed to change one thing about our band. Our lead guitarist or His Royal Highness as he was know, has fallen on his sword and buggered off. Sadly missed by no one and as an added bonus, we managed to find a great replacement within a couple of weeks. Ya ba dab a feck*n doo!!
  11. Nice Fender made in Mexico Player Precision bass for sale only. The bass has been upgraded with a Japanese Gotoh vintage style bass bridge and a set of German made Schaller tuning keys for rock solid tuning. Fitted with a set of Ernie Ball Slinkys strings. The bass weighs 3.9 kg or 8.6 lb`s. There are a few very minor marks on the body of the bass and a couple of dents on the underside of the headstock but they are barley noticeable form the front. The rest of the marks on the body are dust, it`s really difficult to photo a black body! The bass does not come with a gig bag or case. There is a spare red tort pick guard that you can have if you want. I am unable to post at the moment but may be able to do so in the next few weeks so it`s collection or meet up near to Paisley.
  12. Play the A on the E string and totally lock in with drummer boy. AC/DC bass playing is all about serving the song, no place for dooddlly wooddily bits!
  13. Oh I will learn. Where is that ignore button again? Ah found it.
  14. Good on the op for telling us that we who still use amps and don`t fancy using iem`s for whatever reason that we are all wrong.
  15. I bought one not long after they came out in a transparent white finish. Made in China if I remember right and it was flawless but a bit heavy. The black one is tasty.
  16. By the time you put the bass through a cranked Ashdown and have 2 Marshall valve amps and a hard hitting drummer, who can tell the difference? I`m not knocking anyone by the way, I just find it hard to tell subtle differences during a gig. But maybe that`s because I play in a loud band, whilst wearing ear protection I must add.
  17. I think the Stranglers did this in Andertons in the 70`s. You would think that old JJ would have paid them back
  18. I would spend the money on the G&L JB 2 Tribute. They are ready to go right out of the box usually, something that can`t be said of Squiers sometimes. Damm, now I have GAS for one!
  19. The LB is like a normal P bass and the SB has MFD pickups so I imagine it will be hotter than the LB. But you can`t really lose, go with whatever one you find sexier! And the LB neck is more of a handful than the other if that makes a difference to you.
  20. Played down in Ayr last night at a largeish boozer called Harley`s in the town centre with my ac/dc mob. Set up and had a soundcheck and the youngish guy behind the bar speaks to the guitar player. He tells us we are too loud and points to the noise meter up on the wall directly in front of the stage. It`s literally 10 feet from the pa. Can`t go above 110 apparently so after much turning down and running a Marshall on the 5 watt setting, we get it on. Not too busy to start with but filled up ok. There was a dance/techno festival in the town last night and some plonkers came in later defo on something, heard the rock and after a few catty comments buggered off. Gig ended up ok and there was a disco on after us who was louder than us! It`s a bit weird as it calls itself a rock bar and we played there last year and gave it some welly but people must be complaining re the noise as there are flats at the back of the venue. But I must say, I did take some pleasure in the guitar players having to keep the noise down
  21. We are working on it but it`s hard to get a rock singer to travel down and stay overnight for the one gig. It would end up costing us a fortune and you know the rep us Jocks have for being tight!
  22. I`m sitting here thinking how we are going to cover the most important gig that we are booked to play down South (400 miles away) now that our singer has told us she is having a baby and will be 34 weeks gone when we are supposed to be doing the gig. Don`t get me wrong, it`s great news but she is more disappointed about missing the gig than we are!
  23. Just had a look and at £300 that`s a steal. A Squier 60`s bass is now around £380 new and the G&L has a better spec. Looks around to see what he can sell...
  24. it was indeed a cracking bass biggish neck and it was a tad heavy if I remember right. If you are getting it from Andertons, try it and if it`s not for you send it back. They charge about £12 if you want them to collect it for returning it.
