End of an era… Award Session to close in a couple of months…
jezzaboy replied to TrevorR's topic in General Discussion
Same here, got a cable off them last week. That`s me buggered as they make great cables at decent prices. Still the man deserves to enjoy his retirement. -
In my experience if you buy from the big box shifters, Thomann, Andertons etc unless it is a quite expensive bass/guitar, the item will come in the factory sealed box so they don`t go near the set up. You do seem to have had a bit of bad luck though so hopefully it will get resolved soon.

I would just like the chance to actually buy a G&L US or Tribute at the moment! They seem rather thin on the ground.
-
Another option could be an EMG that comes with all the gubbins attached as below. A bit more expensive but I use it for gigging fitted in a Sterling Sub and it`s great. https://www.thomann.de/gb/emg_mmcs.htm

I fancied getting a bass amp again so picked up a nice Ashdown ABM 500 15" combo. Took it down to the studio along with my RCF 715 and a/b them. And the RCF gave the ABM a damm good spanking. Whilst the ABM was well cranked, the RCF was barely running at halfway. We played MacSorley`s in Glasgow last Friday and I just used the RCF and it filled the room easily against a Marshall and Peavey valve amps . Just shows you, sometimes you shouldn`t go back!

I went to buy something from them that was "in stock" which it was, in their Swedish Hub! But I have used them a few times and the fact that you can order stuff late on a Saturday to get it on Sunday is good for those impulse buys.

NBD - Soloking MJ1 Classic 4 String Bass in Lake Placid Blue

That £250 bass has more shielding in the cavity than a G&L I paid £1350 for! Looks really nice and quite versatile. -
Naw, I`m pretty sure thats the new shape 24 fret job that no bugger seems to be buying as Andertons have dropped the prices about £200.
-
You keep the one that long? Lightweight
-
Now £110 for the bass collected or £125 for the bass and gig bag which cost £38 on it`s own. Both items VGC. Save me from those Gumtree wasters!! There is a new bass coming tomorrow so I will have a box that I can stick it in but you must arrange the courier. If you are going down that route, I would suggest taking the gig bag as well for protection.

I was just watching an interview with the director on Norm`s rare guitars YT. Looks like a good watch.

Mint condition Squier Mini P bass. I bought this to use as a back up for gigs but this short scale ain`t for me. This is 28.5 inch scale so just slightly longer than a 6 string guitar so perfect for guitar player or youngsters. The only thing that is changed is I fitted a set of Wilkinson tuners as the original ones weren`t really much cop. But don`t let the little fella`s size fool ya, it sounds just like a full size P bass. The Fender gig bag is also like brand new and can be had for £20 onto the price of the bass. Collection from Paisley or local meet up. Go on, you know you want to!

Thanks Dad, I thought as much. Need to find one that uses a cable that goes into the transmitter on the strap as I can`t stand those ones that go into the input with that big dongle like thing. Off to Thomann!!

Our guitar player recently bought a AKG wireless unit for his guitar. It worked really well when he went out into the crowd with no dropout. I`m fed up with standing on cables as I tend to move around a bit when space allows so I`m thinking of getting the same model. Would it cause any problems with the 2 of us using the same type of units on a gig? I know sod all about these things so forgive me if this is a daft question Link to product below. I don`t think the pickup and electronic are the same as the US models, some of them have the same electronics as the Sub range according to Lowendlobster.

@Jono Bolton Re the wide ABM head. I owned a 500 a few years back and speaking to Dave he explained that the "wide boy head" as he called it, was due to Ashdown running out of the normal sized casings and having the casings lying around from the combo`s which are wider so they just stuck the chassis in them. Simples!
