1.
Worth another mention just for being soooooo good!
Apparently Geddy gave this axe to one of the hard rock cafes or similar and was glad as it weighed a bloomin ton! Classic picture. Jez
2. I beleive that the strap button was put on the headsock so that upright players could play it upright, doghouse style as they say. This was back when they were trying to get upright players to swap to electric basses and Fender must have thought that the ability to play the bass in the upright position would sway players. Of course, I could be talking complete b***ocks! Jez
3.
Hopefully if all goes to plan he'll soon be the new owner of my lovely black n gold geddy, which I will no regret 10 mind later as is my way lol
Sorry to blag your post a bit, but dont you just hate that. You sell a bass and as soon as the guy drives off you miss it and want it back! When I sold my g&l recentley the guy sent me a text the next day raving about how fantastic it is. Bummer! Jez
4. I played a new one a few weeks ago and though it was good I thought it was a bit expensive at £749 so I got a classic 60`s jazz instead which suits me perfectly. Definatley keep your eye open for a secondhand one. At £400-£500 it`s a bargain and you wont be disapointed. The guy from Crowded house and the guy from the Killers use them as their main squeeze. Jez
5. We tried to play this a couple of months ago and I had a great sound from my zoom multi effects pedal. Even the drummer said it was the right sound! But it got put on the back burner. Fast forward to this week and we are gonna do the song. Can I remember the patch number? Naw!! And I can`t seem to get it in the house as I`m playing at really low volume unlike in the studio and have the memory span of a goldfish. So, thanks Gary, this thread is giving me some pointers. Jez
6.
I think a thunderbird can accurately be described as a singlecut. Although the comfort, sound and balance may not be to everyones taste, I do believe anyone who says a thunderbird is ugly clearly has no taste.
Jean you speak the truth! Thunderbirds are the most dissapointing basses to play as they look so sexy, sound great but are totally impractical for me. Regarding the other singlecuts they remind me of a humpback whale. Bloomin ugly. I don`t care how good they sound, looking cool in the pub is important to me. Yes I am a shallow, talentless bumstard. Jez
7. Just finished watching Rainbow live in 1977 from Munich. In the interview section they speak to Bob Daisley, one of the greatest, imo, rock bass guitarist in the last 30 years. In said interview he said that one of the main reasons that he got the gig with Blackmore was because he played with a pick and old chuckles Ritchie reckoned that it made you play with greater precision. So there. Me, I cannot play with a pick to save meself. Only thing they are good for is sticking in the gap between the pickup and the body rout on a Jazz bass to rest your thumb on. Two bits of totally usless info! Bargain!! Jez
8. The Canned Heat, "Born to boogie" as they used to say. The original bass player was Larry "the mole" Taylor and he played on the hits in the late 60`s and at woodstock, big fat guy with a handlebar moustache and a sunburst P bass. Great blues player. He was also one of the session players on some of the monkey`s hits. Sex, drugs, alcohol, blues, death, hells angels, being ripped off, a great story and they are still going I believe. If you see a copy of a book called Canned Heat-Living the blues, buy it! Jez
9. Check out this stingray. It seems a bit pricey but is a lovely looking bass. It`s a bit strange to buy a bass of this spec and then not play it. http://glasgow.gumtree.com/glasgow/17/39894117.html Jez
10. That is one sexy bass. The headstock looks great with that style of logo. If I was looking for a P, I would take this off you like a shot! Best of luck with the sale. Jez
11.
Hi, reading the thread about the Fender Classic Series Jazzes has prompted me to ask whether there are any Fender Jazz models or years that routinely come with a chunkier neck profile? I recently sold a 2009 US Jazz* as the neck was just too small for my hands to feel comfortable playing (I am a Precision player normally) - however if there is a chunkier necked Jazz model/year this might solve the problem I had (I know the nut width is likely to be identical/similar on all but the profile presumably could differ reasonably significantly) * NB, I bought it as I wanted to have greater flexibility in sounds than the straight 'P' sound
Try out the mexican 70`s jazz. Tried one last week before I bought a mexican 60`s jazz (which looks geat in olympic white and sounds great) and the neck was well chunky. More like a G&L neck. Not wide but just a large handful. The sales guy even mentioned it before pulling it off the wall. But beware as other people on here have tried them and find the neck to be okay so it sounds like Fender`s usual policy of "variety is the spice of life" manufacturing. It didn`t suit me but was a fine sounding bass. Looked good in black but was spoiled, imo, by the white binding on the neck. Jez
12. Now then. I can help you out there.I was looking for a Jazz and tried a: Geddy Lee-lovely bass but a bit too pricey. The 70`s model - The one I played had the chunkiest neck I have ever seen on a Jazz, so some seem to be slim, others are chunky. You would need to check it out before you splash the cash. But what really put me off was the white binding on the neck which seemed very wide if you get my drift. The 60`s model - Fantastic! Olympic white, lovely neck and the lightest jazz bass I have held. And it sounded the best of the 3. So I bought it, well happy! I didn`t get to try a Squire classic vibe as they didn`t have one but everyone seems to rave about them, so might be worth a punt. Jez
13. There is a review of the Indonesian neck through fly bass in guitar and bass mag this month. Their guy Gareth Morgan gives it a score of (drum roll) 82%. "Great fun and well worth a look." I have never seen one in the flesh and for that I am truly thankfull as it`s bloomin ugly. And has a list price of £799. Ugly and expensive. (Reminds me of one of my ex`s). Jez
14.
I've been using a Neutrik silent jack on the same (VanDamme) cable for a couple of years and so far have had no problems whatsoever. I bought my cable from Award Session, but I hasten to add that other suppliers of very good cables are often recommended on this forum! I now use Neutrik connectors on my speaker leads too - it's nice not to have jack plugs fall off or totally disintegrate, as always happened to me before the Neutrik stuff came along.
All the guys in the band use Award Session cables and have done for a couple of years now. Speaker, guitar leads, mic cables the whole shooting match and have never had any problems with them. Fast delivery and good price as well. Of course, other cable manufacturers are available. (Very BBC like). Jez
15. Pete Way of waystead and ufo. The ultimate in good time dont give a monkeys about technical playing bass god. (Yes I did take drugs when I seen ufo at the fabled Glasgow apollo). The man who made me buy a thunderbird-which was crap for me and ended up being punted! Jez
16.
I just sold a 2009 MIA Jazz (at a big loss ) as it didn't feel right to me. I am a P-bass devotee and the narrow neck and body shape of the Jazz didn't sit right with me either
I`ve just went the other way! Started off with a crap jazz and moved onto p basses and lately a G&L which I just punted. I am going to take a large hit on the P but I prefer the jazz neck and the shape. I have just aquired a Mex classic 60`s model in olympic white and tortise-shell pickgaurd. Let`s hope that I`m satisfied now as the credit card cant take much more! Jez
17. Bumpty, bump...........
18.
Would you post? Just joshing Jez!
Like it!!! Thanks for the nice coments. Jez
19.
No one was criticising your "no posting" policy, merely pointing out that, buy offering shipping, you'll likely sell it a lot faster.
Fair do`s mate Jez
20. Some photo`s with the pickup covers on. Please note they are not fitted to the bass, you would have to fit them yourself. Also, they were taken with a different camera from the 1st shot`s and the quality aint so good. Jez
21. I live in Paisley, 8 miles from Glasgow and don`t want to post for 2 reasons: I had a lot of bother a while ago when I sent a bass and it went astray. Caused me no end of hassle. The other reason is that I work 6 days a week and getting stuff to a courier is a major pain, so, I advertise it locally and stick it on here in case anybody wants it and is able to collect it. If you look at the heading it say collected. So please respect my reasons for not posting. Ah, feel better now that`s off me chest! Had a look and I have a chrome pickup cover and bridge cover from my old Jap 57 re-issue that I will throw in as well. The bridge cover fits over the new style bridge but you would have to drill the holes yourselves. Will try and post a photo. It looks well tasty! Jez
22.
Hi PM'd you yesterday
Hi there. Tried to contact you via the pm but it wont allow me to reply to you for some reason. It might be something at your end as I contacted someone else who had pm`d me. Cheers for the intrest but the bass was sold via gumtree late last night. Jez
23. Fender 2009 USA P Bass standard. Black with maple neck, allparts black pickgaurd fitted, original white one included, schaller straplocks, new style case with all the tools, strap, etc included. It has been gigged since Febuary and has a very small ding on the top half of the body midway between the pickup and the bridge. I can`t even photograph it.There is no paint missing and you can only see it up close at a certain angle but I better mention it anyway. Two small scratches on the pickgaurd. It is a great bass and I always wanted one but am cutting down my collection and I prefer a Jazz so am going to go back to where I started. Collection only. £600 Jez
24. Sunday end of season bump!
