Waiting for the call after an audition (on lead guitar) this afternoon. Did everything I could think of to make it work in my favour - learned more songs than they asked for, spent time on getting the sounds right, got there early, did some BVs. I defo want the gig (1 year dep slot) - just have to be patient now.

Sold my Music Man Sterling today. Missing that amazing neck already.

There's a first. We walked away from a gig without playing a note as the pub thought we had too many amps (we are a 5 piece) and our amps looked "too loud". We hadn't even plugged in or fully set up. When they asked us to lose a band member or play after 10pm when their restaurant was closed, we packed our gear and left. Lord Raglan in Wokingham, for the record. My advice: never accept a gig there

Sorry to hear this. It's such a waste of everyone's time too. You could have taken another (paying) booking. They probably had customers turn up, expecting to see a band etc. I too have done free gigs where I've thought "why do I do this?" and of course others where I ended up really enjoying the gig.
Good on you for naming and shaming the pub. Better luck with the next one @Clarky

Oh band dramas, the sh!@ has really hit the fan with this one, honestly I sometimes wonder why we put ourselves through this

Oh dear - band "troubles". I'm in several outfits myself. It can take quite a bit of planning ahead, to make sure there are no clashes. But generally, I let everyone know when I'm playing with other bands / duos. Most of them have met each other, and seemed to get on pretty well. But I've had this sort of thing with other bands in the past.
Hope it gets sorted - but it sounds like guitarist #2 was either not informed, or is unhappy with the 2 of you having another project.

OMG. Dave Wakeling of The Beat has just started following my ska band on Twitter.

A few Gins later she said “you can buy that Sire [V7] thing you’re looking at” - in the bag before the hangover remorse kicks in. Incoming LPB/maple V7 4 sometime in Oct 😉

Just typed ‘live environment’ in a thread but autocorrect decided it should be ‘love envelope’

Hello. Found my way here researching a Ibanez 804 EUB. A bassist came by with one and we played a few songs from my new release Cocoa Brown and Rust. I had written a counter melody in the intro of one song that didn’t make on the released version since the sound of the upright player at the session just didn’t work with the track. We tried it with the 804 and BAM. The sound reminded me of a fretless Jaco with Joni Mitchell!! Fighting GAS.
Good to find basschat. -
Am I done buying bass gear? I just bought an 48" (120fps, 1ms input lag) OLED TV for the attic instead of a Nate Mendel sig Pbass. The other OLED in the living room is 65".
New one is used with the PC for Cubase and gaming, and the image quality is just astounding. Of course I set the screensaver timer at 5 mins because OLED will burn in if you don't take care of these things.

Apparently I am now a "Basschat Hero" , don't worry it won't go to my head. (as long as I am shown the deference I so clearly deserve.)

Oh my god oh my god oh my god...
Billy Sheehan 'liked' my Facebook comment.
You can take me now. Life is complete.

Great stuff @Rich - you must be well pleased

Bored stiff. Shall I buy more gear? We're at 9 basses and 3 amp stacks oh and 3 combo amps.

If you have the space, and the cash - it's your hobby... there's no right or wrong - if you take it in turns to play each one, that's fine.
Having said that, I've been on a mission to reduce my collection lately - and recent movements have been 4 out, 2 in - and that sort of "feels" quite good, and perhaps very disciplined for me anyway. So many guitarists & bassists I know seem to have a bigger collection than they need. Oddly enough, it's the professional musicians I know, who have the least gear

Stolen bass... Today I was given some old gear from a coworker who sold his house and is abandoning his studio.
Among it is a hand built precision from the Netherlands. I had never heard of the builder so I searched google and found the man's Facebook page. I noticed he had 2 mutual friends. Posted him photo's of the bass asking if it is from his hand and it was indeed.
I had also posted 3 pics of it on FB, stating I was handed this bass and I did not know the brand. It did not take long for the rightful owner to recognize his custom made bass which had been stolen from his rehearsal room more then 25 years ago! He showed me pics to prove it, and some social media posts from 2017 of him searching for his lost treasure.
Today, I found him his bass and soon as I noticed it is his, I rang him up and gave him my address. Tomorrow he will pick it up. That will be quite a moment for sure!
Happy days.-
Looks a nice instrument @DiMarco really like the colour & "grain" of that body
.... but tell me - is the title of that AC book "Poirot and the missing bass"?

... and I have a job. Pending written confirmation, at least.

Bugger; just found out that a friend from my previous job died today. She was in ICU with Covid for a few weeks, and was even posting from there a few days ago, but didn’t make it out.
I’ve known her for ten years. She was funny, kind and leaves 2 young kids (7 and 4), as well as her poor husband.
I’ve said it before, but this year can do one. -
New bass has arrived!!
Photos later...
