1. It is up too you if you want to pay the £5000 or not. People have been doing this with autographs for years. The amount of memorabilia that appeared after Michael Jackson died was the same. Maybe exploitation of the artist, but I wouldn`t say it is distasetful, just opportunistic.. The only thing that baffles me, is that I wouldn`t sell it if I was as big an Eagles fan as he is claiming.

3. As a fan of The Jam, I got a bit lost in the 80`s as I hated stuff like Simply Red and Frankie Goes to Hollywood etc. The Wonderstuff - Eight Legged Groove Machine changed my direction as far as music was concerned. Maybe not the best 80`s album, but certainly the album that got me interested in music again
4. Volume levels for me depend on the weather. The shorter the daylight hours, the louder I go, within reason of course. Summer is always quite quiet as people insist on sitting in their garden.
5. No idea how it works with theft, but if you buy a car for example, and it turns out to be stolen, it can be taken from you even if you bought it in good faith. Wouldn't that apply to everything or just cars, or am i also wrong about the car getting repossessed? I really do think that all these cash converter type shops are the biggest fences in Britain
6. Regardless of the law, if it was stolen, i would put myself in the owners shoes and wonder how i would feel if my bass was stolen . I would be wanting it back, so i would teturn it assuming it is stolen
7. I see that Dale Griffin, the drummer from Mott the Hoople also died today
8. I find good tribute bands are good. Sometimes you can`t see the real band as they are either dead, or packed up. When does an original band become a tribute band. Lynyrd Skynyd? I saw the Four Tops a few years ago and there was only one member left. Were they really a tribute band? Are From The Jam a tribute band as it contains Bruce Foxton? Queen without Freddie Mercury? Even if they have all the band in it, without Freddie, is it just a tribute. I think most decent tribute bands have a place. You can pay £15 at the local guildhall, or pay £80 for a crap seat plus travel and added extras for the original.I think it is telling when I pay the same for original bands, as I do for Limehouse Lizzy for example. Which brings me to, were Thin Lizzy only a tribute band after Phil Lynott died?
9.
Thanks again for the above comments guys. Re alarm, any suggestions of what I should be expecting to spend and/or a good model?
I bought this one, I put the dummy box on the shed, and the real one on the house. I can`t guarantee it is the best, but it works. Only problem with it, you need to buy a separate remote control, although not essential. They cost around £18 http://www.screwfix.com/p/yale-premium-wireless-alarm-kit/54473
10. Sad times for the entertainment world. 4 legends in a month gone
11. One thing you should definately get is an alarm. I had an attempt on my shed a few weeks ago, but luckily my alarm saved the day. It is looking good by the way
12. I had a Hercules stand. It didn`t stand up too a drunk crashing into it and breaking . I assume that any stand that holds and doesn`t fall over on its own should be ok. I doubt there is any stand that can withstand a direct hit from a drunk. The worst part is I only had it for a week
13. I guess there is no more appropriate place for this tribute. https://youtu.be/KaOC9danxNo
14. The Marcus Miller V7 is an interesting one. To have a signature bass for under £300 seems to be a bargain, and they get good reviews. I would imagine they would shift a fair few, as opposed to most that are well over £500. On the other hand, Sandberg do a Ken Taylor bass for a shade over a grand. The problem with it for me, is that it is called the Sandberg basic Ken Taylor. It shouldn`t matter, but the fact that it is an endorsed bass for over a grand has basic in the name
15. I went no on a bottle of Jack Daniels a day which was false, but then said he had an occasional day off, so it should indeed be false
16. I would imagine in the modern era, Seven Nation Army would be the most recognisable, and that ain`t even a bass. I very much doubt non musicians would know a good bass line, they just hear it in the mix not realising .
17. I have started listening to The Ruts again. I like the bass lines
18. Always hated Level 42. Mark King is another one that i can appreciate his talent, and can see why he is so well thought of. I don't think anyone can deny his place in the pantheon of bass
19. Slade song marks the start of Christmas for me. I haven`t heard it yet, so it is turning out to be a late start for me, which is good.
20.
More people knew the Yorkshire Ripper and were listening to The Bee Gees.
You stated that more people knew the Yorkshire Ripper right there? No one knew who he was until 1981, so therefore, how would more people know him? If you had written that people knew of a man that was dubbed the Yorkshire Ripper, I would have believed that. Perhaps I should have written that most of the record buying public would have been aware of who Sid Vicious was in the late 70's,and a good proportion of people who read newspapers and watched the news would have been aware of him.
21.
I made no mention of Peter Sutcliffe, so his charge in 1981 is irrelevant. I also made no mention of 1981. The Yorkshire murders dated back throughout the 1970s and were reported outside of Yorkshire. I knew about them living in the midlands. Anyway, Yorkshire is a big place.and there are lots of people there. The murders were commonly known as the Yorkshire Ripper murders by 1979. The Bee Gees in 1981 are of no relevance to The Bee Gees in the late 1970s. Why on earth have you mentioned that year? In 1976 the soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever had sold 2 million copies in the UK alone. In 1979 The Bee Gees had their Biggest selling album for fifteen years - Spirits Having Flown - selling 20 million copies worldwide and the single from that album Tragedy was number 1 and also a multi-million seller. Vicious died 2nd Feb 1979; one week later The Bee Gees entered the chart at number 7 and went to number 1 two weeks later. The Bee Gees were not on the wane. Even so, I expect only a minority could have recognised a Bee Gee and even fewer would have known that Maurice was the bassist. I still say the claim that 'most people' knew Vicious is highly improbable. And the audience of Basschat is certainly not most people. It's not even a representative sample of bassists.
Point 1. You said most people knew the Yorkshire Ripper. No one knew the Yorkshire Ripper. If they did, it was most likely he would have been caught earlier if more people knew who he was in the 70`s.? Maybe they knew the name, but no one knew the person, so they could not have possibly have known in the 70`s Point 2. I mentioned 1981 as you said that most people knew the Yorkshire Ripper, which they could not have as he was not unmasked until 1981, so as you mentioned the Bee Gee`s at the same time, which was 1981, and they were on the wane. Point 3 is irrelevant. Just because people loved the Bee Gee`s does not mean that they knew nothing of The Sex Pistols or Sid Vicious. Lots of kids read Smash Hits, and the Sex Pistols were constantly on the news for 2 years. Sid Vicious and Jonny Rotten were probably more well known by name than any of the Bee Gees. Point 4. I still maintain that by the end of 1979 more than 51% of the UK knew who Sid Vicious was, which would be most people I still maintain that more people would identify Sid Vicious today , or even in 1979 than Maurice Gibb even after 20 million sales. I still say that a large proportion of basschatters know of Sid Vicious
