1.
Sid was the best known bassist of the 70's. End of.
I reckon Suzi Quatro could run him close. Maybe more for the leather jumpsuit than her bass prowess
 2. So few people outside his area knew who Peter Suttcliffe was until 1981 and Sid Vicious had been on the news for a good 2 years, and dead before Sutcliffe was identified. So to say more people at the time knew who he was in the 70's is not really true.As millions watched the news as there weren't many channels, and the newspaper circulation was huge, I would imagine you would be living under a rock not too have heard of him. Especially if you were a music fan, which most of us on here are, which is really why I said most people .Also. most of the population of the UK only needs to be 51%, and I would imagine that many knew who he was. Granted in a popularity poll of the 70`s, The Yorkshire Ripper could well get more hits than Sid.The Bee Gees best years were probably on the wane by 1981 so not too sure how many people were listening to them then when Peter Suttcliffe was charged. I maintain that if you showed a photo of Sid Vicious and Maurice Gibb, more people would indentify or at least recognise Sid Vicious.
 3.
https://www.youtube....h?v=zdGPhQPATPg A wee video ofmyg band from Austin Texas, at South by South West this year. Great fun... considerin it was at half 3 in the afternoon!
Not my kind of music at all. It looked like you were all having a great time though. That is what it is all about
 4.
Somebody recorded all our Troyen set at Northumbria Uni, earlier on this year. This track, Futures Friend, although a bit cheesy is my favourite. https://www.youtube....h?v=JicTQrRWlVM Crazy Lady went down really well. Shame, cos I hate it
I don`t think the sound on some of the clips did you justice. It was good though
 5.
Hi folks! Here is my new video of playing in public. Enjoy https://youtu.be/N_TogsjZch4
Nice playing.
 6. I like Gaye Adverts tone. They were one of the better bands from the early punk scene in my opinion
 7. He isn`t getting involved as he doesn`t want to sell his gear
 8.
Here is a promo-clip from one of my band gigs at the end of last year when we did a concert in tribute of Grover Washington Jr. https://www.youtube....ml&spfreload=10
Is that ytou on the bass? I am not really into jazz, but that was great playing by the whole band. Plus a really cool looking shirt
 9. The postage ( I refuse to use shipping) is 10 euros unless you buy 199 euros worth, then it is free
 10. Maybe a stupid question, but, does it stand up on it`s own when empty? I have a Warwick bag, and it is so flimsy and difficult to put a bass in compared to the other case I have.
 11. Every time i revisit this thread, I am always hopeful there would be some decent insight. Unfortunately I feel as if I have wasted a minute or so.
 12.
Horace Panter
Were The Specials considered punk or new wave?
 13.
Nah, not really. I just think it shows a spectacular lack of imagination and I find it a bit depressing.
From your description, it sounds like you need a lot of imagination to go to the Cavern. I remember going to Tombstone, and found out that the OK Corral had been burnt down years ago and a new replica was built. The same goes for the whole of Tombstone. I was very disappointed, and would imagine I would be the same if I went to the Cavern to be honest. At least the weather was nice in Tombstone.
 14.
If people are dumb enough to stand and gawp at the Cavern that isn't really the Cavern then I guess they deserve to be exploited....
That seems to be another of those, "I don`t like it, so no one should" comments that seems to be pretty prevalent on these boards lately. I don`t really understand why people want to go to Liverpool, but people are free to spend their money how they choose.
 15.
I'm 49 (from Birkenhead) and no one that I knew around my age was really interested in the Beatles when I got into playing music in the late 70s early 80s. It was great. There was a sense of optimism and people were looking forward. Now we have this endless nostalgia BS and this whole Beatles tourism industry. Tedious.
If it brings jobs and money to the area, then that has to be a good thing doesn`t it?
 16.
. Bushels undoubtedly a bass player who is a household name.
Who?
 17. Jools Holland would be a familiar name . Dave Swift is probably one of the better known bass players on bass chat, but I bet outside bass forums, so few people would have heard of him, The same goes with Chris Squire, and virtually any other bass player . When people go to work, pub and visiting family, ask them if they know Paul Mc cartney, then ask what instrument he plays. I bet most people will say guitar..
 18.
Stockhausen.
Sounds like a syndrome
 19. Perhaps the title should be household names of people who are interested and like music.
 20.
Jack Bruce, surely. And for those of a certain age, Jet Harris.
Jack Bruce was a singer
 21.
That would be And, yes, XTC were definitely classed as new wave for the first couple of albums at least.
At least I am not on my own thinking he sounds good. Not really a fan of theirs. I think Making Plans for Nigel put paid to any interest I may have had.
 22. I honestly doubt hardly anyone would know macca plays bass unless you were a fan much less any other bassists.
 23. No idea if XTC were classed as new wave but i am listening to Senses Working Overtime. Havent a clue who plays bass on it, but it sounds good
 24. I have had 2 Warwicks, so far from being an expert, but my jack plugs fitted any cable i tried. I will say that the jack on the Fortress was rubbish and had to be replaced, but maybe it was because it was a Rockbass. I am glad that you like it. Everyone should have at least one in my opinion. They do seem to have a unique sound
