1. I had an EB one fail one me on the top horn, luckily I caught the neck before the headstock smashed against the floor. The body did manage to clip a music stand (at practice, as I am also lead vocalist) and ding the laquer. Back to schallers, check the nuts when cleaning/general maintenance, never had a problem.
2. TC polytune mini the individual strings tune great but the poly is rubbish. Nice small footprint on the board though. Ashdown Bass-o-meter good tuner but huge heavy and salmon colored 😁
3. It's not a show if there aren't footprints on the monitor.
4. MusicMan never had a crap era or hit-or-miss production like 7ender does. A MM bass of any vintage might suit you or might not, but all are fit for live duty and recording.
5. I adore my '96 SR5. Trans teal, some birdeyes near the headstock and flame down the neck. Also the maple neck and fingerboard are from one piece with the joint hardly showing. They cut the fingerboard with a very fine saw to put the trussrod in and glue them back together.
6. Fresh strings > tuning and intonation > play a song > check tuning (it's never off by more than a notch on the tuner). All done, I did 'stretch' the strings on a previous bass with different strings but I find no need for it currently.
7. There is a Peavey 1x18 + 2x10 cab too isn't there?
8. I have one as my back up right now, played it for a year as my main amp. Do you have any specific questions about it?
9. No Doubt/ Gwen Stefani Guano Apes Christina Aguilera (fighter?) Within Temptation (not sure how well known they are down your way) Imelda May Whale (Hobo humping slobo babe?) Plenty of material to create your own version of, could be fun!
10.
Not a problem now - tried to buy and checkout, and was given a 'problem, contact customer service'. Then directed to a generic contact form! Think I'll pass....
Perhaps they disabled the buy option for this bass as it's now being processed. I'd wait for their reply, they've always been 10/10 with me.
11. Truth is I love my gear, but I could just as well use alternatives for every link in the chain except for myself.
12. They usually have pics of the actual object under the listing. You can shoot them an email for more info or ring them.
13. Just the SR5 for gigs. Nothing comes close. Edit: nothing I have or have played.
14. Les Claypool with Primus Frizzle Fry and Sailing the Seas of Cheese albums, and Robert Trujilo with Suicidal Tendencies and Infectious Grooves.
15. 1. Avoid medical advise from the Internet. 2. See your physician/MD. 3. Check your ergonomics when practicing, get it on camera to better evaluate what's going wrong if you can. Good luck!
16. Regarding the DT770, I tried their anniversary edition which has a different impedance I think. They were terrible! The sound was sterile, bass starved and sounded far away. Not at all like the 80 Ohms are described. I got the Sennheiser HD 25-1 next so I never tried another DT770.
17. Sennheiser HD-25 Brilliant for bass and music in general, they sound a lot like my active monitors.
18. Wow! That's a really cool bass! I love the clean lines.
19.
Anyone tried the dean markley blue steel stainless strings? I tried them in my spector a while back and was pretty impressed. I had been using rotosound ss rounds for year, the markleys were similar but seemed to stay livelier a bit longer. I use slinky's on my music man basses and love them, but have been rethinking what to use on the next change on my fenders!
I tried the Blue Steels on the SR5 because my guitarists love them. Terrible! Very poor tonal balance between strings. One string (can't remember which, I think it was E) died within 3 weeks. As always ymmv
20. I use a bit of FastFret to smooth out new strings. Keeps them sounding fresh for longer too.
21. Took the gigbag that came with my SR5 to a drycleaner's. Very happy I did, cleared all olfactory memories right out. It wasn't expensive either.
