1. Thin layers of tru-oil with light buffing using 0000 steelwool before each layer. 3 layers got my neck a lovely hue. Then 3 thin layers of gunstock wax with light buffing in between gave me a silky smooth feel and a near indestructible finish. Never needed to soak the cloth though, a little goes along way! Enjoy
2. There's only one way to do this properly. Get all of them. Possibly sell the ones that don't make your face go a funny shape.
3. I used to break strings often when I used Ernie Ball slinkys on my old ibanez soungear 500. Never since I switched to DR.
4.
Where do you lot get your 9v batteries from? The one that came in my Sadowsky is an Energizer Industrial. I keep checking it with the multimeter and it's not budged yet. I'm expecting it to as it's been very heavily used since I bought it, but still going strong.
Lidl, cost next to nothing, I change them once a year when changing strings on the Stingray. So far I've not run in to any trouble (knocks on wood).
5. Either it's 'never been gigged' or it's a 'real player'.
6.
My Planet Waves cable I bought recently has a lifetime warranty. I could just buy two of those and be set for life and have cash to spare!
Off-topic: That lifetime warranty means the average expected functional life of the product, not of the buyer.
7. I'd just watch the rerun on tele.
8. Get an expensive refin on your cheapo bass. That plus what the extensive setup would've cost you at a luthier make for a presentable showpiece that you can play at a gallery or punk infested squad.
9.
makes the world a wee place.
Smells like it anyway
10. Try some before you buy one. Also, I find 810s are easier to move about than 410s generally, the latter are often an awkward size to shift.
11. Ayup, get your favourite 810. Buy second hand. Give it a year, then see how it fits your wants and needs. Don't like it after all? If you looked after it a bit you'll have no trouble selling it for nearly what you paid for it.
12.
Habitually on my feet Sitting down to learn bits but when it comes to actually playing it through... Get up and get jiggy with it 😁
Exactly ! I don't get the 'same strap length sitting down as standing' view? Optimal posture and access to the notes you need to play are king surely? A position where you can keep your wrists as straight as possible and play with the least effort.
13. The 750x is still my main amp, faultless after six years or so. WorkingPro 700 is my backup, never needed it!
14. Honestly, if the work was done by a good luthier, I'd be surprised if it affected resale value by more than 15%.
15. I had a Hughes & Ketner combo. 75W I think, covered in blue batskin. Lasted until I joined a proper band, blew up in two rehearsals.
16. Good links re: WD40 , thanks! Interesting gorgomyte: a website dedicated to selling a product without one image of said product. oO
17. WD40 is fish oil, not mineral, at least originally. Neither is lemon oil afaik, unless you have a reliable source? What polish? The stuff on your shoes? I tried the Ernie Ball wonder wipes the other day, one for the fretboard, one for the body/finished parts, one for strings. Worked fine but didn't last long. In the end what works for you, works.
18. How about first notes played on a different instrument? Without the characteristics of the original sound, what changes?
19. IME birchwood casey gunstock oil should not stick, not even a little bit.
20. A 1u rackhead, presumably high quality, 800w in to 4 Ohms, all options you would want in a clean amp. Also, it would free enough rack space to make a drawer for my pedalboard. One less item to haul!
