1.
put one of mine up for saturday, but it didn't add it, do they need mod approval or am i just useless?
the Hey Steve, I mentioned in OP that entries are approved in batches by the mods - it will appear, worry not!
 2. Cool collection, I bet 'Wonky' (my favourite, love the cream DiMarzio's) sounds awesome through a big rig! The Grabber is pure early Kiss
 3. Cool bass, I so wanted one of these back in the early 80s when the bass was being played by Hooky (Joy Division, New Order) and the guitar version by whatever-his-name-was in A Certain Ratio. Oh and in my very very young days a certain Mike Rutherford
 4. I've not got my grubby mitts on it yet (arrives from US next week) but I have every finger, toe and other moveable part crossed that this will be the one I will never part with - a year-of-birth (1963) Fender Precision:
 5. Just sold Julian a Fender neck - top bloke, fast payment, all good
 6.
It's not to be sneezed at!
Tell you what, if you need £650 fast, I'll give you that for your Kolstein - problem sorted
 7.
Curious to know what impressed you?
Umm, all the usual stuff about amps what I like! Nice warm (not sterile) tone, nice overdrive ability, and weighs about the same as a hummingbird Everything I would have liked in an Ornage Terror bass but in a much smaller and more versatile package, basically
 8. I recently discovered the little Calendar link at the top right hand side of the BassChat home page which very few seem to have noticed (including uber-mod Dood, lol!) This allows you to input upcoming events/gigs so that the rest of us can see where and when you are gigging. It means we can click on, say, Friday 25th March and see whether there are any BC'ers playing in our area and, gasp, maybe even attend. It could also be used to input key events, like Bass Bashes or Bass Shows. Its very easy to input (choose the options on the lower right hand side of the calendar page). Note that Machines has said that entries will need mod approval before appearing so your input will not be visible initially. However, he has said that calendar entries will be regularly moderated in batches so your calendar entry shouldn't take long to appear. Here's the link to make it even easier than clicking on the top right hand side of the home page: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?act=calendar As a suggestion, perhaps this could be pinned at the top of the Gigs section to make it easy for everyone?
 9.
This had better been £3.16 well spent or there's trouble Downloading from Itunes as we speak, sorry type.
Bad move, I've seen The Jetsonics and they are utter pants JKS (as my daughter would say; apparently means 'joking!' with smiley emoticon afterwards) - actually they are bl**dy good and I will be taking a listen to the EP at the weekend
 10. I know Chris well and I can tell you how it ended. He went through a bunch more basses (many via me!) and has ended up with a vintage 1965 Precision as his workhorse, a MM Stingray HH for his functions band, and he uses his Yamaha upright for fretless or when schlepping along his DB isn't viable. So this thread is REALLY out of date

 12. FYI, I emailed The Gallery yesterday to see when the TH500 head is coming in. Alex said "mid April", so still best part of a month off. I was very impressed by the demo of this head at the Bass Show in Olympia - was the only thing I had GAS for in the entire show.

 14.
I had to try eight different PUPs before I found one that worked on mine. You can try one of my Underwoods or KAs if you want?
Thanks for the offer Chris. I think I will do some more reading on pickups too first though! I am a bit of an ignoramus when it comes to these things (well lots of other things too). The Eminence comes with the Realist pre-installed, its more the DB itself I want to think about. Meanwhile Chris, take a listen to the tone of the DB in the link I posted yesterday (The Wood Brothers) - just wow!
 15.
ask yourself whether, in the melee of your band's sound, a mic is worth the likely trouble compared to a decent PUP?
fair point but I do find that the Realist on my Eminence and the Shadow on my DB sound somewhat electric bass-y (to my ears at least) when amplified loud ... and both of those come pretty highly recommended. So is there a PUP that comes closer to that organic/earthy/buzzy sound a mic gets?
 16.
I tried one, great piece of kit but certainly not immune to feedback, and given how many people you have on a (often small) stage with you Clarky mate, and given also how loud you need to be, I'd stick with what you've got. I gave up with mics live unless it's a quiet gig or a very big stage, on which I can really control what goes into my mic and where I'm positioned in relation to monitors. Even then I have the neck PUP as back up to switch to if things start getting rumbly or squeely
We are starting to get bigger gigs (Upton Blues Festival, festivals in Meadowlands and Portugal potentially) and for cramped gigs I use the Eminence EUB but I hear what you say Chris. Maybe I need to do some more reading up on this.
 17. Our next gig is a free entry gig at The Hootananny, 95 Effra Road, Brixton SW2 1DF. Its on from 9pm-3am and we are headlining. Here's the blurb: "RATTLIN' BONE + THE GADJO CLUB + RASP THORNE AND THE BRIARS + PRINCESS KNICKERS + DJ SACHA DIEU + MS MANRAY Stranger than Paradise present: 14 piece rock and roll burlesque gypsy voodoo jazz circus from RATTLIN' BONE, violin driven gypsy mayhem starring the unequivocal chancery blame from THE GADJO CLUB, menacing dark folk goth punk from RASP THORNE AND THE BRIARS plus ethereal saucy minx PRINCESS KNICKERS + Dj's Sacha Dieu and Ms Manray play a conglomerate of cajun hillbilly swing and gypsy polka" Its free entry, did I mention that?
 18. I was bowled over the sound clips of this (so much more organic/earthy and, well, double bass-y than a straight piezo pickup) but the cost of a new one is a pretty painful £370. So I was wondering if any of you DB'ers are looking to move one on? Cheers Clarky
 19. Cab also sold, pending payment
 20.
PM'd re: a CD.
and PM'd back
 21.
I don't use any preamp. I either run the mic straight to house, and where possible I don't have an amp on stage. Or I'll have a mackie SRM150 with the DPA and my realist, then out into a GKMB150. But I prefer when I can to just run the mic, because it's mega. I prefer to hear my bass acoustically. If you have something that will give phantom power the DPA would be fine to use into an amp, unless your playing very very loud you won't have feedback issues.
Thanks Ben, I am competing on stage with a brass section (including souzaphone in the same register), one or two electric guitars, a loud drummer, and up to five vocalists. Thus I need volume. So forgive me for my ignorance but, if I were to use a DPA, I presume I would have to use an amp (for monitoring), in my case an Acoustic Image Contra combo. Would this maintain the fidelity of the acoustic sound do you think? If not I may as well stick with my Shadow piezo pickup. Thanks again
 22.
Aha glad someone's used them, did you get clobbered with import tax or anything??
yep I took a punt that I wouldn't and I got hit. Ended up paying close to £300 for the neck which suddenly didn't seem like such a good deal (although Allparts blocked/bound, non-logo'd, non-tuner'd necks are over £200 so I couldn't find one cheaper) Incidentally I will probably be selling the neck on as I have converted the '71 back to a fretless, now that I have a 63 P (fingers crossed) incoming

 25.
How about a pickup surround and raised bezel from Pickguardian? That's what I had on this bass
When I had a Rick, I had to get a Pickguardian surround too. There's too high a risk of falling into the pickup cavity or lacerating your fingers IMHO! As an aside, Delberthot that is an utterly fabulous looking Rick, never seen one in surf (or is it seafoam?) green before
