I need help to find a good not expensive postal service to post my bass to Holland from the UK, any help well apreciated, cheers, Rob.
Try Interparcel's website. Once you put in the basic info it will give you several service options and prices (hover over each with mouse and it tells you details). I used this to send to Finland and Italy

Can a warped 60s Fender celluloid s/p be unwarped?
Clarky replied to Clarky's topic in Repairs and Technical
Thank you all! Been out all afternoon/evening hence my tardy reply. I like the sandwiched-between-glass-in-the-sun suggestion, lets hope we get some sun tomorrow! -

I have just got hold of my 63P and very lovely it is. Its currently wearing a repro tort guard but I do have the original. The latter is very warped and quite rigid (as well as lacking a tip and having a couple of cracks). I am worried that if I screw it on to the bass it will crack and furthermore - given that the upper edge bends outwards with a fair (0.5cm gap) from the shielding plate underneath - catch on my right hand while playing. So is there any way of unwarping it or at least making it less warped? For example, would immersing in hot water soften it before I could lay something heavy on it to flatten it out (and then later screw on to bass)? All suggestions gratefully received
Erm, have gig wednesday, but am thinking about popping the 951 back so I can buy your 950 - will pm!
Hi there, I left a messgae on your mobile voice mail. Can post this afternoon in jiffy bag or, if you want it in box, can post at post office on Monday. Either way should be with by Wednesday unless it snows or the Royal Mail goes on strike! Paypal gift or bank transfer fine if you want to go ahead.

Try the live albums made by Scott Lafaro with the Bill Evans trio just before he died (tragic, car crash in his 20s, just as he was hitting new heights in playing and innovation) - 'Waltz for Debbie' for example. Lafaro leads the melody very often as well as combining this with his role as back line. Stunning stuff and the solos are almost always very listenable as they are so melodic.
No, it was longer than 9 months ago, about 2 years now, but I asked at the time what strings they were and still had a note of it! No problem, unless a trade comes up before I find some decent strings I'll give you a shout. I don't have Paypal though, sorry mate!
Fair enuff! Good luck mate. I will carry on searching ...

Quick question - which La Bella flats have black silks?
Clarky replied to Clarky's topic in Accessories and Misc
Yes thanks Howard , that's what it says on the packet! But are they the same as Jamersons?
Google is your friend "ORIGINAL 1954" FENDER STYLE (Registered trademark of Fender Musical Instruments, Inc.) Flat Wound "Jamerson Set" The 0760 set was used by the legendary James Jamerson on virtually every Motown hit record in the Sixties. Donald "Duck" Dunn used the same strings on countless recordings with Otis Redding and Booker T. & the MG's. They are the fullest and deepest sounding bass strings ever. -
Clarky I just called them medium gauge as I always think of 45-105 as "medium", they're the Standard Gauge though, I got them after the P Bass I bought from you had them on! As for selling them, I'd prefer to trade as I don't really have enough spare cash at the minute to get a new set of strings!
Haha, this place is so incestuous! But not in a sexual way of course Was it only 9 months ago? Well if you can spot a decent set of rounds FS on BC at a good price I will happily lob £15 plus postage your way for the La Bella's on Paypal (as a gift)
Hi all! I've currently got a set of La Bella Deep Talkin' Flats on my Jazz, had them on for about 9 months but they've not had much use. They're medium gauge, 45-105, I'm looking to trade for a set of rounds, new or slightly used, I'm easy. I prefer D' Addario Pro Steels but I'll listen to whatever you've got, just looking for rounds in a similar gauge.
I just put up an Items Wanted post for these very strings! Except I don't have any rounds to trade Can I buy them off you instead mate? Edit: I am after 760FS which is Standard gauge (45-105) not medium gauge (49-109). Which ones do you have?

Quick question - which La Bella flats have black silks?
Clarky replied to Clarky's topic in Accessories and Misc
While we're on the topic, do the 760FL set have red silks?
I could be mistaken. It has happened you know -
Or, you could buy a Rob Allen Mouse 30 bass, which is very close sounding *goes all starry eyed*
A set of strings is cheaper About 100 times cheaper

+1 to the above but - if you are sticking with a P bass - Rotosound Tru Bass black nylon strings come about as close as you will get
That'll be the FS which are 45-105.
Nice one! Thanks BB2000 -
The Barefaced Compact does seem like a good solution for a cab. Much of a waiting list, Clarky?
I was told "about a month" by Alex

+1 Was hoping to make it, to see the mighty Jetsonics and also to meet your mate JC (to pester him about accordion-ness). However Mrs C has made other plans which I cannot get out of and its "Mother's Day weekend" (hmmmmm) so I do what I'm told and do not argue Break a leg matey and hope its a cracker

For ultra lightweight, I suggest Barefaced (I have a Compact on order, a 15" cab weighing 26lb). For not quite so lightweight (47lb) but with 3 x 10" speakers and super high quality, how about obbm's Epifani UL310 which he has FS at £500? I had one of these once and it was superb

The fretless I bought yesterday has La Bella Deep Talkin flats on it. They are heavier gauge than I am used to but I found I really enjoyed being able to dig in a little harder than I would with, say, TI Flats. Does anyone know which gauge the black silk-ended ones are, Standard (45-105) or Medium (49-109)? They are not as heavy as the Jamersons and I know the light gauge ones have red silks.
I really like the position markers on that one Clarky! How's the precision hunt coming along?
Oly White 63 arrives Saturday so it's NBW ( new bass week)!

Couple of bad flash camera shots of my newly acquired June 2004 Mach II (or according to one Wal blog, a Mach II/III hybrid) fretless with American walnut facings and mahogany core. Ebony board has useful side fret marker lines on it, like an Ibanez fretless I once owned. Weighs 9.4 pounds, balances very well on a strap, almost Jazz-like neck dimensions, and in immaculate condition. Sounds very like a DB on the bass/neck pickup with the tone rolled off (it has LaBella flats on it) which is what I need in my band, plus has a ton of other tonal options. Will be spending a couple of hours with this tonight as the Mrs on a girlie's night out and kids broke up from school today
