1. As they said on the Flashing Blade, its better to have fought and lost than never fought at all
2. I bought a few day-old, as-new set of Velvet Blues last week for about £85 from an Italian seller on TalkBass (they come up about £135-150 new). I didn't get on with Garbos and thought the slimmer Blues would suit me better. They have nice low/medium tension and are gratifyingly loud (they would be great for busking!). Tone-wise they seem half way between steels (they are copper-wrapped) and gut-alikes. I am not going to stick with them as they make my old German 3/4 bass quite dark sounding (Spiros are brighter sounding on this bass). Any interested at £80 posted? Very good, virtually as-new condition still Cheers Clarky Ps if you want to hear how they sound here's a guy fromTalkbass playing some Velvet Blues

4. On further consideration I am withdrawing from sale
5. Going to bump this one last time. If it doesn't sell soon, I will just buy an Ikea luggage trolley to cart this around on as the Wizzy cab I was after looks like its sold to someone else
6. Check out post 17 above, payment plan considered
7. I bought this last summer on BC but, while I keep being drawn to Jazzes in the looks dept (and this is a real looker), I much prefer the ergonomics of a Precision. Its a really stunning sonic blue (I think, maybe sky blue) with a faded white (ivory coloured) s/p and rosewood board. A few minor indentations here and there but none through to wood and most barely noticeable. Wearing very skinny, low tension Thomastik Jazz Rounds so the truss rod will need a tweak if you swap for medium/higher tension strings, Serial number of A plus six digits appears to date it to 1997-8. No hard case but will be well packed. For pics see here: http://basschat.co.u...ost__p__1802682 Nitty gritty: £499 posted or £485 collected in London. No trades thanks.
8. Phil bought a set of DB strings off me. Excellent communications throughout, Another BCer I am very happy to recommend.
9. Incidentally, would be happy to do a payment plan for those I have done biz with previously*, eg, 50% upfront (say £210 including postage) with the balance over 1-3 months Edit: * this also applies to anyone with a long track record of good feedback or even a moderator!
10. TalkBass has an article and some pictures of a new preamp + powered speaker set-up from Acoustic Image http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f4/new-acoustic-image-namm-953701/#post13804291 Bound to sound fantastic with DB but I can't help wondering if the preamp part needs to be more 'micro'?
11. Spanish guitar for me. Stunningly beautiful in the hands of a master like Vicente Amigo and something that does not require a band for rehearsals/gigs etc!
12. I've seen Happy Jack's band (which includes MacDaddy), NIgel silddx' band, burritobass' Case Hardin, Pete Academy's Nearly Dan, discreet's Pigbag, Low End Bee's The Jetsonics, PTB's Gentleman JIm (?) and possibly others. I do try to get along whenever a BC'er is playing relatively locally to me. I'd like to see Prescott, Kev, but the dates have never worked for me (working late, rehearsing, gigging, football etc). Its not a conscious decision to ignore you
13. FYI, I checked out delivery costs and this would be £10-15 within mainland UK, depending on service, and circa £20 to Northern Ireland
14.
Just to chime in here. I had the E strung with no fret buzz or interference with my playing style, not uncomfortable or rough under my fingers. Sadly, the same strings buzzed on Clarky's bass. Give them a punt, the E may be just fine for you and a cheap as chips price for a set of backups.
Thanks Dr P! As a suggestion, if the buyer picked up a new E from alangregory for £38 http://www.alangregory.co.uk/musicshop/Thomastik_Double_Bass_Strings.html this would amount to £78 for a set of new/vgc Spiro Mittels, with a spare backup E. This compares with £138 at violinstringsonline, £150 at Stringzone and £116 at Thomann (out of stock)
15. So you will be the UK's first owner of a Big E from Mike Arnopol then (Inspector Clouseau here). If that's half as good as they say on TB you have the ultimate bigger DB cab
16. Another great and utterly straightforward deal with Keith, this time for a DB pickup. All good, as ever
17.
Clarky, ordinarily, I'd be first in the queue to buy this off you, but I've just put a deposit on something a bit special.
Oooh, intriguing! As you are well stocked with amps I guess its (double) bass shaped?
18.
Wayne's a stand up bloke.
despite being a Sp*rs fan PS, he's also very busy with non BC stuff (new obsession with running 10k's every week and the preparations for his impending nuptials with the future Mrs punkdude)
19. tbh, didn't work so well with my DB (bit trebly, so I had to cut a lot) but then I was using a BassMax pickup which is not as faithful as my new Ehrlund pickup. In other words I probably didn't give it a fair crack of the whip. Several guys on TalkBass like the MB500 (and smaller MB200) very much for DB, so I think I am rather unrepresentative
20. I have a Series 3 fdeck. Smart little pedal that has a phase switch and a high pass filter (cuts out boomy low frequencies) - pretty much all you need in front of a regular amp to bring give it DB-specific functionality. The Series 3 has a more complex algorithm for teh high pass filter and is metal (as opposed to plastic) encased but the Series 2 is probably just as good in practice. PS, I happen to be selling the same amp fatgoogle uses (GK MB500) - sorry, cheeky I know!
21. Cheers Daf, will think on. Not in a hurry, just thinking ahead! Re: Honeys, was probably just me but it felt a bit like that imitation metal (eg, the metallic plastic like on kids toys) to me, rather than steel or similar. I'm probably in a minority of one though as I know a couple of BCers like them (thisnameistaken and Sarah)
22. will do
23. *************************** tumbleweed ********************************* Surprised at the lack of interest in this super-quality cab
24.
Is the Mars Bar all original Clarky?
Has a Badass? Suddenly you are interested .... But seriously (folks, said with Groucho Marx moustache and cigar) this is ridiculously good value and Chris is a great guy to do biz with. As 2,437 BC'ers know
