1. Hey John if my Acme Low B2 2x10" sells, I will be dropping you a PM about this ... unless you fancy a straight trade?
2. Just checked new pricing: its $639 plus shipping (about $125 from memory), add in 21% HMRC/import and divide by 1.60 xc rate = £578 to get one into the UK, so £400 (if collected) is a 30% discount for a pristine, as-new example
3. I imported this cab from the US manufacturer about 9 months ago. Its utterly superb for loud double bass applications and as a hi-fi cab for electric bass. Its the louder 4 ohm version as these are noted as slightly inefficient cabs, requiring a lot of "juice" (500W from an amp is good) to get maximum volume and performance. I cannot fault this amp for performance. However, I have a dodgy back and at 50 pounds its too heavy for me to hoik in and out of venues. I am going to replace with a lightweight, high quality 1x12" (EA or Epifani) for louder gigs with my DB. So this uber-quality and hard-to-find on these shores cab is up for grabs at a very reasonable £400 collected. It cost me about £550 to import, including duty/HMRC costs and delivery. It is in perfect condition and comes with a flimsy (frankly rubbish) slip cover from the manufacturer, which at least prevents knocks and keeps out the elements. Would prefer meet-up in London area (I live nr Hammersmith in West London) but I have found the box so I can post at cost It looks completely new and here's a link to a pic of an identical cab: http://www.talkbass....39&d=1311697963 Marketing blurb and specs from website http://www.acmebass.com/#/products : • A very compact cabinet with the bass extension of a good 18" subwoofer. • Amazing transient response; from the fundamental of the open B-string, right up to the highest harmonics of a C or F-string. • Loud enough for a single cabinet to hold its own against most drummers. • High power handling. 350W RMS is a good starting point due to the relatively low efficiency of the cabinet. 500W RMS is ideal. 4.
I do like these very much. I have to ask though, what is a "dedicated thomann volume control contour control"?
hmm, let me edit and re-post the specs from a site other than Thomann!!!!
5.
Alas no, my Epi's will stay with me til they're modded into my casket. (Speakers pointed inward, iPod on shuffle til the battery runs out).
No worries mate! I trust the iPod will fade to the tones of 'Hero' by Bonnie Tyler?
6. Hi Gareth, the only thing I could really do with is a nice lightweight but high quality 1x12" (EA or Epifani) to go louder with my DB than my Crazy8 (1x8") cab. I have an Acme Low B2 (2x10") which sounds superb but at 50 pounds is too much for my glass back and will be up for sale soon. Don't suppose you want rid of one of your Epifani's?
7. I got this as part of a trade a couple of months back with Happy Jack. Due to new EA amp I am putting this up for sale. Given photo importation problems on BassChat, I will just show an ad here for the amp from DV247 http://www.dv247.com...CFaTMtAodkycACQ where you can see its normally £400 (although its not in stock, nor is it in stock at GAK, the other 'cheapie' site - Thomann has them for about £415 as does Gear4Music) Condition: generally good. A few slight scratches on the top, from having things (pedals? tuners? preamp?) sat on it while owned by Happy Jack, plus he had appended some velcro on the top of it (presumably to attach said pedal/tuner/preamp) which can easily be removed. Nothing at all major and nothing visible front on. Functions perfectly How about [s]£315 £305[/s] £280 ncluding UK postage? 8.
I think you might mean 'Irish yew'...?
in the name of the law (Bad joke, sorry) More seriously, best of luck with your sale but adding a link to pictures of the bass in a hosted website like photobucket or flickr would really help your sale along Edit: I see you've added a link. Good stuff! Beautiful bass
9. I played a gig at "loud rock band" levels on Saturday (Hootananny, Brixton; normally has reggae and rock bands) and had to rely on the PA bins and stage monitors, although I had my amp on stage behind me (it was inaudible). I couldn't hear my double bass very well and ended up playing harder than I would normally to compensate (very sore fingers, blisters etc). But it was all I could do to avoid feedback (the stage was so boomy the sound guy told me to turn my amp down) and to fit with the rest of the band. Wasn't ideal but it worked
10. I did a mini tour in Portugal and just used a PlatPro to DI to the house PA each time. Worked very well. Feedback issues meant I was also forced to use a Headway preamp to DI at a gig recently at a venue with good PA (Half Moon, Putney). Again it worked pretty well. The key is if you can trust the house PA and soundman/lady. I bring an amp with me for insurance as much as anything and because it kids me that I am in control of what comes out of the speakers! I think BCer BurritoBass also gigs DB only via DI and is happy with that, but again his band Case Hardin tend to play in good venues with I assume reliable PA systems
11. and replied!
12.
Hi There- I learnt Rabbath Technique at university level but don't use it so much in my day to day orchestral playing in London any more. I teach privately, but I'm not registered at Talk Bass. Is there a way for me to contact this guy without registering at Talk Bass? I can certainly help him.
I checked his profile on TB and there's no stated email, you would have to contact him by PM on TB or reply to his thread. Either way you would need to register, so why not? it's free, takes a couple of minutes and you may even find the vast double bass forums useful?
13. Been a few days bump
14. I keep coming back to look at this, just beautiful with lovely real mojo - my favourite looking bass for sale on BC right now (and there are some other beauties too). Wish I had the cash right now but, as I don't, have a bump from me!
15. First gig with the Ehrlund and it couldn't have been a tougher one to try it out on. We played a rock/reggae venue (Hootananny, Brixton) and the volume was absolutely at loud 'rock band' level. I had some initial horrible feedback problems in the soundcheck, not helped by the stage being a very large wooden box (about five feet high and as boomy as its possible to get). However, the soundman played around with EQ on the PA system and I stood a bit further back on stage (away from the monitors) and apparently the sound out front was excellent (one of our friends in the audience was a sound engineer). I reckon thats the toughest possible test passed then - most of our gigs are at nothing like that volume level. My rig was Ehrlund-->effects return of AI Clarus-->Crazy8 cab but I had to keep the volume level very low behind me on stage to help minimise feedback and I had to rely on the monitors to hear myself
16. On this google images page, the fifth pic shows Willie playing the bass on tour https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=alleva+coppolo+willie+weeks&hl=en&client=safari&sa=X&tbo=u&tbm=isch&source=univ&ei=hcb7UOW8Iemp0QXspoHgDA&ved=0CEgQsAQ&biw=768&bih=928#biv=i|4;d|LUIfLb4LaFvlPM:
17. This is a superb bass with provenance, played by the great Willie Weeks on a tour with Clapton. Get in quick!
18. Thats a very lovely example - congratulations. When Fender are on their game they make some fabulous basses
19. No worries Shaun, you've already seen the band more times than any other BCer ... apart from bluejay
20. Tonight folks - yes, I made it back to Heathrow last night from frozen Finland!
21. A guy on TalkBass has had an email from the Bass Centre confirming these strings are now available at £145 inc p&p, although they are not yet advertised on their website
22. there's a guy on TB asking for one http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f5/good-double-bass-teacher-london-949692/
