good work! so after all that, how do you like 'em?
-
I am so sorry to hear this Pete. I had no idea the Stagg would need 4/4 strings. I don't think you have cut so much from the D and G that they will be compromised on a 'normal' sized 3/4 double bass, so as a backstop they should be saleable. Fingers crossed, a bit of jiggerypokery with the bridge can get them to fit. Regarding the silk colours, Weichs are red at the bridge and purple at peg ends, the all red Spiros are either Mittels or Solos.

Who's the most unlikely EUB convert on BC?
Clarky replied to Low End Bee's topic in EUB and Double Bass
You won't need any strings Ad so that will be the biggest cost avoided (it has a nicely worn-in set of Jargar strings on, for the record, which should last for years - these are the same ones used by Lee Rocker, ex-Stray Cats, on his basses although I wouldn't recommend slapping a Baby Bass!) TBH, with the Baby Bass and the DB-friendly Phil Jones combo I can't see you having to spend anything - result! -
Witchita Lineman - probably my favourite record of all time
Ditto. Never tire of it, just perfection. Wasn't it Joe Osborne, rather than CK, on the Jimmy Webb classics though with his famous Jazz bass

Looking forward to this Ad! FYI, for a deeper, more resonant sound (good for slower numbers, although I don't recall the Jetsonics playing anything slow!), play with the meat/side of the forefinger (rather than with fingertips perpendicular) -

Sold: Fender Custom Shop 55 P Bass: Sold
Clarky replied to Old Horse Murphy's topic in Basses For Sale
But in 1955 Fender weren't making custom shop basses, they were making '55 P basses, so your definition would make this an original that stayed in the shop? Confused!
Its a Custom Shop manufactured bass, based off a 1955 P-bass template that has been lightly aged to look like it has sat in a case for 50-odd years! -
What is the best way to keep them clean after playing?
Ermm, I've never cleaned a set of DB strings yet! As they are flatwound, they don't get gunk on them like electric bass roundwounds. A simple wipe down would suffice I guess if you sweat a lot but I bet you don't need to do anything with them. One piece of advice though - the silks damage really easily on Spiros so install the strings very carefully and slowly/methodically. That way, if you ever decide to change strings they will stay in excellent condition (and will be more vaulable in event of re-sale) -

That looks like a £90 children's starter bass. Who would pay up for that?

One of the best amps out there for double bass and also a great clean amp for electric bass too. In good condition with padded carry bag. I bought it a couple of months back from BCer Michael (mcruiz67) as I urgently needed a second acoustic-friendly amp for my band's biggest gig yet (headlining Half Moon, Putney). I'm the other side of that gig now and I don't really need two Acoustic Image amps (I already have the Ten2 combo). So I'm putting this up for sale at the same great-value price I paid, ie, £350. Note that Michael had the power section upgraded to that of the latest series when he owned it so now it puts out 600W at 4 ohms and 350W at 8 ohms. I cannot uploads pics but the amp looks identical to the one in this link http://www.talkbass....ries-ii-326399/ FYI, this has been through a few BC'ers including wateroftyne, Platypus as well as Michael. Here's an old FS ad from Platypus with photo http://basschat.co.u...652#entry251652 and here is Michael's ad with full specs http://basschat.co.u...cus-2-now-sold/

For what its worth, I just did an hour's practice (going through my band's setlist, playing along to iPod) with my Kolstein bass and Spiro Weichs and (a) my hands/arms are not overly tired and ( b ) the bass sounded great to my ears. There are other great strings out there but I really like these (I have been through Innovation Silver Slaps, Honeys, Presto Ultralights, Spirocore Solos, Helicore Hybrids, Velvet Garbos, Elite Danny Thompson prototypes, and probably others I can't remember). We should probably set up a BassChat DB string exchange!

Sorry no idea on Preludes but Dr Phibes is selling a set of Spirocore Mittels for £60 in the DB for sale section. Personally, I would start with Weichs as these will be more forgiving of your hands. If you find they are too low tension then by all means move up to Mittels and the upside is at least it will be easy to find a buyer for s/h Weichs.
