John just bought a rare EA iamp "white face" amp from me. Deal went exceptionally smoothly and we had a brief but good chat in a dingy side road in Hammersmith! Maybe catch you at the next Bass Show in Olympia, John? Hope you enjoy the amp in between times. Another good guy to do biz with

Weighs 20 pounds too. I would need a surgical harness and a road crew just to get it onto the stage

Very impressive bit of luthiery there. Enjoy!

Hi all, I have a US Fender Jaco fretless bass (the artist edition, I believe, which sells new in the UK for £1600-odd). Its a nice-to-have for me but not essential as I only play double bass or acoustic fretless bass in my band and my '63 Precision is the bass I always pick up to noodle with at home. I traded the Jaco with BC'er chris2112 a couple of months back for a Warwick custom 5 string that I valued at £1000 and have since added a custom Bass Doc-manufactured 1962 Jazz reissue-pattern tort scratchplate (which could be removed in seconds if you want it to look pure Jaco). The first owner (BC'er dudi8) added Fender custom shop '60s Jazz pickups and relic'ed it to make it resemble the Custom Shop version, I believe. It comes in a lightweight generic hard case. Its a super bass but - in the interest of full disclosure - there is one minor issue: a small dimple in the epoxy finish around the 7th 'fretline' on the A string (possibly caused by impact by a previous owner) - if you play hard on that point it buzzes a bit, but not if you play more lightly. This could be filled with a small blob of superglue or epoxy glue and fine sanded or a luthier could fix it quickly (I got a quote from Alex at the Bass Gallery and he said luthier supremo Martin could fix it for £40 but recommended I just put a blob of superglue on and fine sand it). I did put in a small amount of superglue but not quite enough so there is still a slight dimple there. Here it is with scratchplate: Here is chris2112's FS ad with loads of pics without scratchplate: http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry1860331 OK moolah type stuff. I will sell for £900 posted with a 48-hour Interparcel service. Or its handover/collection in London for £875 (via bank transfer). Afraid, no trade offers as I would appreciate some cash right now (lots of outgoings on house at present eg, fixing leaking roof) and I have plenty of bass gear. If you didn't want the scratchplate I would cut £15 off the price so I could recoup by selling it separately on BC.

Its been posted before on BC but I don't think I have ever seen such an infectiously enthusiastic display of double bass playing. This always makes me smile and it just inspires me. What a dude http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFTqVHEJZ0A

All the bands I have been in since my return to bass playing in my 40s have had strong points - my death metal band got me out there gigging and understanding musicianship and the quirks of playing live and recording, my punk band was closer to music I enjoy and we had a few great gigs (sadly too many with virtually no audience), and Rattlin Bone got me into double bass and playing festivals (I got on well with several members as well, although it went pear-shaped in the end for me). However, All The Queens Ravens is a different proposition. All the other band members are younger than me, all are very talented, there's no inflated egos, and when the incredible lady singers are at the top of their game (which is nearly all of the time) the music is sublime. We don't meet up socially that much but when we do we all get on as -while we are a mix of very different personalities - everyone is pretty easy going. I do think I have struck it very lucky with this band and - although I am way less competent on double bass than their previous classically-trained bassist - I bring tons of commitment and the occasional much-needed kick up the @rse to get things done. I hope sincerely that this is the start of a long running association as I am truly enjoying myself with this band.

Yep, me again Keith just bought some DB strings from me and put me in touch with a buyer for another set of strings I had. A true gent

Although he hasn't posted (yet!) on BC, Dave is a good friend of our very own Mr_Bassman (Keith) and a fellow double bass player. Anyhow, Dave just bought a set of DB strings off me and all went swimmingly I know DB strings are sometimes a bit hit-and-miss on any given instrument but hopefully they are exactly what you need Dave!

Nice one Michael, congrats -

"pumping a sperm whale" was Nigel's creative description of his unhappy attempt to play double bass at one of your get-togethers, Jack It does not allude to any unusual nocturnal aquatic proclivities that I may (or may not) like to indulge in

Just tried to recall all my basses...its a fair list.
