1.
That top is in very good condition...how old?
They are still being made (a cool £1700-odd at GAK http://www.gak.co.uk/en/fender-super-bassman-head/56166/) Looks amazing and I bet it sounds superb. Afraid i couldn't cope with 65 pounds weight though
2. Nope just ordered it. Several huge advocates of it among the TalkBass DB community so fingers crossed
3. Yet to gig my new one but at the mo' my DB has a Full Circle and I am going through an Acoustic Image head. Its sounds about as good as a piezo pickup will allow. I have also taken the plunge and ordered a Troll mic http://trollmicrophone.com/ as that will almost certainly give me the most authentic DB sound and - at least in my small venue ensemble - there won't be drums and foldback monitors to lead it to feed back
4.
Have I missed the price somewhere? What was it?
Post 14 above: "less than a grand" Nice score!
5. wow thats a beaut and a serious barg!
6. My tick list: committed - sorta talented - nope aged 19-25 - ermmm want to really get somewhere in the music biz - bit late play a 5-string through a 'proper' rig - screwed So I'll see you all there anyway!
7. ha ha then expect me 10-12am!
8. Oops just realised I would have to leave at 12 noon as something family related in diary that afternoon. Colin/Nik, barring your splendid selves, how many arrived at last year's bash well before midday? If nearly everyone came in the afternoon, I will probably have to decline
9. I doubt it will keep up with a drummer unless he uses brushes or has a particularly light touch. My acoustic project is drummer-less so its not an issue for me. But there is a Crazy 88 with two 8" speakers which almost certainly would keep up with a drummer, I would guess

11. IIRC, the Wizzy 10 needs a lot of EQ'ing out of mids. The Crazy 8 doesn't. Probably best to ask Roger (aka bassace) who owns both - although I recall him posting that he thought the Crazy 8 outperformed his Wizzy 10
12. Having now got a small pub/coffee bar Americana acoustic project underway (in addition to All The Queens Ravens), I realised my old (sold) Crazy 8 cab would have come in useful. I contacted the US builders who pointed out that there's a Greenboy licensee in the UK called Tricky Audio who make all their FearFul and Crazy 8/88 cab designs. There are several obvious advantages to a UK builder: quicker order time, easier return if issues and - best of all - no US import costs and taxes (so it works out a fair amount cheaper too). Worth checking them out. Their FaceBook page is https://www.facebook.com/trickyaudio. The builder is Guy Trigg (who is occasionally on BassChat as Triggno9). So without further ado, here is the cab which I am very pleased with. That isn't Mrs C behind it, in case you were wondering.
13.
Looks a bit rubbish though that bass.
I think it has a certain WIthnail & I type charm and I wouldn't cack myself gigging it, whereas I would with a shiny new several-£k luthier bass!
14.
Given the number and variety of repairs, that would definitely have to be try before you buy! Doesn't look as if the end-pin extends, does it? At 69" tall overall, that would only work for a very short bass player.
True but I believe unconverted 3-string DBs are rare as hen's teeth. Re: endpin, could always get one from Ben Bastin on BC
15. To revive this thread, I recently re-acquired a set of Olivs I had sold on to another BCer as I missed their warm, rich sound. Fitted them and the next day the metal windings on the G string had unravelled around the C position. The strings hadn't even been fitted since I sold them on first time so was very irritating. The string was useless (the unwound metal wire is very sharp and potentially finger-shredding) and so I threw it away and had to fork out £80-odd for a new replacement. In the US, Gamut do a rewinding service (for $55/£30-odd) for wrapped guts that have unwound, wish Pirastro offered the same!
16. Bit battered but very cool IMHO http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PRE-1900-CARVED-3-STRING-GERMAN-MITTENWALD-DOUBLE-BASS-MAPLE-SPRUCE-BLUEGRASS-/181429312449?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Sting_Instruments&hash=item2a3e079bc1
17.
You're selling this to get a bass back that you regret letting go. Can you not see that the cycle will simply continue?!
To be fair, IIRC Mark/discreet owned that Precision from new in 1976 and played it in Pigbag back in the 1980s. I think that counts as a lot of memories!
18. I do agree with Rabbie. Your Fishman Plat Pro should sort any feedback issues - unless you are a mega-loud psychobilly band! - with its phase switch, high pass filter and para EQ. If it doesn't manage it then I would recommend getting an fdeck pedal (there's a thread about a UK manufactured clone I posted in this forum) as this has a broader sweeping high pass filter than a Fishman (plus a phase switch) which many TalkBass DB'ers (and some on BassChat) recommend highly. As for the Schaller, most reviews say they are quite fretless bass or EUB sounding - which isn't necessarily a bad thing, just not very acoustic-y sounding.
19. Dave bought a v nice set of double bass strings off me. Faultless transaction. Cheers Dave!
20. Our drummer is going off travelling for a year in October and we will most likely just do a handful of drummer-less five-piece gigs while he is away (one of our singers has moved to Bristol too, making coordination a bit more complicated!) We have two gigs lined up at the very start of October which will therefore be our last with the current line-up for some considerable time. So if you wanted to catch us live, now's your chance! They are: Thursday 2nd October - at Paper Dress Vintage, a funky bohemian clothes shop in Shoreditch Saturday 4th October - at Spice of Life on Charing Cross Road, next to Soho Here we are playing at Spice of Life earlier this year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0noHL4khCeM
21. Lightly used (1 month) Velvet Garbo E, A, light Garbo D plus Lenzner plain gut G New would cost Euro 250/£215 from Germany. Yours for £135 posted
22.
I had a similar problem on my JB. All the earths were intact, so my solution was to paint over the top pole piece with clear nail varnish.
What happens if I only have red glitter nail varnish?
23. Cheers Howie and Mr Beer! Time to get soldering kit out (a scary prospect!)
24. Aha, so the tone pot should be connected to the ground wire from the bridge. Well, my Jazz is a 62 reissue and the copper wire strip that emerges from under the bridge pickup and goes to the bridge has come loose. This may be the answer
25. Thanks I will take a look, although I am to electronics what Kim Kardashian is to nuclear physics
