1. Letts Basses are very active on FaceBook (posted some pics only last night). I would contact them there first as they may be prepared to rectify the problems. Starting a wider discussion on QC issues to be frank may end up with you doing yourself out of a mutually acceptable solution. Good luck either way! 2.
I really like the sound of one particular note on the C string and only ever play that note. It is my gig so no-one complains but I never get booked anywhere else.
So you just play the opening riff to 'Watcher of the Skies' on C for the entire gig?
3. Stuart bought a Markbass combo from me. He was very friendly throughout, even when the courier didn't turn up to collect on the allotted day ( ), and paid superfast. Excellent transaction as others before me have noted. Enjoy the combo matey!
4. Either Ceremony by New Order or Damaged Goods by Gang of Four in my first band in 1981 (ish)
5. Fabulous. Calling Rick's Fine '52!
6. Try this for a wonderful example of tasteful playing by Charlie Haden (RIP) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f92FliQ-V6g
7. Sold to the man above ^^^^
8. Blurry pic from 'Down by the Riverside' in sub-tropical Staines last night. I appear to be back on Jimmy-Page-pouting mode
9. I have a spare Planet Wing piezo pickup for sale. These run to $185/Euro 150 if ordered direct, which is about £115 ish. Yours for £70 posted. Its in excellent condition http://kolstein.com/...ory_Code=pickup
10. Not a trade per se but a big thanks for Lozz for coming up trumps with a box so I could sell on my MarkBass combo (he has the identical combo and had kept the box). Top man!
11. Thoroughly enjoyable evening playing the Riverside Club in Staines on one of their 'Down by the River' (aka Bluegrass Staines) evenings. Was great to see BC'er Lozz196 who came along to see us and also very kindly provided me with a box to send an amp in. Top man!
12.
How is this still here?
But for my dodgy back it wouldn't be and I'd have it back. The best cab I have ever owned in terms of clarity and ability to carry the lows
13. Coolio, I believe we are on first, somewhere around 9-9.15 start time, so we get about 40-45 min set (or thereabouts). Next band (The Jolenes) is on at 10
14. Rio just met me and bought my PJB Briefcase amp. His first deal on BassChat and I am pleased to report that all was good! Enjoy the amp Rio
15. Sold pending payment
16. they look nice to me, especially the traditional colour choices like sea foam green etc. But £1100+ for a Korean made bass? Seems top whack to me and I bet resale prices will be much lower
17. It seems the default option for luthiers dealing with classical double bass is to set it high (I recall being surprised by teh action on a number of basses in Malcom Healey's workshop). There have been polls on TalkBass and if I recall most have their basses set up 8-10mm on E and 6-8mm on G, some lower still (which requires higher tension strings like Spiro Mittels).
18. Pm replied to Still available type bump!
19. Jimmy bought a set of DB strings from me. very friendly and easy transaction, can't wish for more than that!
20. Thats good (although it must have played oddly to a left hander given the camber of the bridge and fingerboard!) For RnR/rockabilly, assuming you are wanting to learn to slap and pizz (rather than arco) then I would concur that Innovation strings are the best value solution. Silver Slaps (or their yellow-coloured cousin Golden Slaps) are gut-alike strings that have very easy low tension and are much cheaper than steels (which would in any case hurt to slap). An alternative would be Presto Nylonwound Lights (from Thomann in Germany) which I personally prefer, but there's not much in it. There are more expensive alternatives (Velvets, real gut strings etc) but I wouldn't even think about those yet.
21. Some great sound samples here - lovely growly sound as Fatback says http://www.hervejeanne.de/saitenmatrix.php
22. Would consider p/x or trade against a DB friendly small cab (Crazy 8, Wizzy etc) or an EA Doubler head or Tecamp Puma 500
