I had an Eminence at one point and it sounded great amplified (Realist) but terrible unamplified - like a cigarette box with rubber bands on. No microphone would have made it sound good. If your bass is similar to an Eminence I suspect you will struggle to find any mic will make it sound good, which means you will need to stick to a transducer mic. The Realist is known for being quite dark so maybe you can borrow a different type of piezo pickup? A BassMax or Underwood for example that slot in the bridge wings with no modification (the Underwood definitely sounds great on my smaller bodied Kolstein travel bass as. It's brighter).

I've been through all of this, trying to find a portable alternative to my DB in my band. The nearest I got was a Takamine TB10 (which uses piezo pickups) but it was quite heavy for my knackered shoulder (although it can be played on a pin) and its very expensive. I now use a downsized DB (Kolstein Travel Bass) or Ampeg Baby Bass or - last night in the tiny Green Note in Camden - a good old Fender Precision

I was only playing his album Nocturne this evening on the way to my gig. Fabulous player. How sad

Hi bassarama, I'm sure Jack will get back to you if I'm wrong but he does say he is not interested in trades and if you search you will see he is also selling a 70s Precision as part of a gear clear-out. What i will say is (a) I don't like 5 strings and ( b ) this bass is the one that nearly persuaded me to change that view (so much so I owned it twice!). Stunning workmanship, beautiful finish and sounds wonderful -
My worst example on BC was selling an early 70s Jazz last year to a German based BCer. I held the bass for a month (over Christmas) as he insisted he wanted to fly over and pick it up in person and tickets to London were cheaper in January. As the relevant Saturday in January approached, he asked me for a list of places (bass shops, record shops) to visit which I did some research on and duly sent to him. I set aside the Saturday to meet him (which meant missing a family activity) and waited for confirmation of his landing at Heathrow. Several hours later, wondering whats going on, I text and say that I hope his flight was good and I look forward to meeting him. He eventually replies and says he missed the flight. I offer (again) to post in secure box etc and he says he will get back to me. A day or two later he says I may as well put bass up FS again as he isn't sure when he could get over to London. No idea if his story regarding flights booked/missed was true or pure fantasy but I lost a great chunk of a precious Saturday hanging around, held the bass (which was worth close to £2k) for over a month for him, and got no apology.

Having been a very proactive member of the DB forum and a moderator, ubassman seems to have dropped off the radar screen. He hasn't posted in four months or been on the site in two months. Hoping he is ok and just so busy he hasn't found the time to be on here

Hi all, we have a gig upcoming on Friday 11th July in the small but highly respected (on the folk circuit) Camden venue The Green Note (as played by Leonard Cohen, Amy Winehouse and many others). The venue does great veggie food and drink by the way. Not sure what time we are onstage (we are headlining and will likely have two support acts). Would be lovely to see some of you there Here are the details of the venue http://www.greennote...&task=view&id=4 You can buy tickets in advance here (its a small venue and there are only 29 advance tickets left right now) http://www.wegottick...om/event/276392 Here's a vid of us playing a month or so back, just to remind you!: https://www.youtube....h?v=KlTVaiO7bL8

Sh*t Mark, where's the root-5th and repeat? Or chugging on open strings. Now that's real bass playing. You are making most of us look bad (The bass sounds fab by the way) -

For the avoidance of doubt, there's another Czech based BCer Davidak who has bought and sold a few basses here. The gallery includes his name in the web link. Are you the same guy with a new BC username or are these his photos? http://basschat.co.uk/user/9037-davidak/ Or is it a complete coincidence? Just think people would want to know -
