1. I am always playing around with strings. I recently acquired a 1983 JV Precision with La Bella standard gauge flats (45-105) on and love these strings. So I thought I'd buy a set for my JV Jazz ... and they don't play anything like as nicely (tension feels different, can't get action as low as I can with lighter gauge Joe Osborn flats). Why is this so? A Fender BBOT bridge is a Fender BBOT of bridge, the scale length is the same 34", the after-lengths to tuners are near identical so the only difference is the spacing of the strings. Is it psychological, to do with the strings feeling more crowded due to string spacing? Dunno. Either way, I took them off and put back on the Joe Osborn flats which suit my Jazz much better. I have also found this in the past with other strings (eg TI Flats and Ernie Ball nickel rounds) Just seems odd. Oh and I am bored
2. Would a tenner discount to the advertised price tempt anyone for what is reputed to be one of (if not the) best magnetic picksups for DB?
3. Try playing a double bass with gut strings. Overnight they can go sharp or flat a whole tone just based on temperature/humidity changes and sometimes they won't even last a whole tune before going out
4. Thanks gents, it's actually nicer than a regular US Jazz too as a result of Wizard pickups. Hmmm am starting to consider selling my JV Precision and keeping this instead, even though it would leave me with two Jazzes??? Anyway last post from me for 36 hours lest I get slapped (again) for over bumping

6. Marc bought some DB strings off me. Paid faster than a fast thing and very friendly comms throughout
7. I am guessing it can only be the humidity and ambient temperature as - unless you have guts - the strings will not shift and the scale length stays the same so the only variables have to do with the wood and the air mass within the body
8. Sorry to be a party pooper but this has been advertised for ages on eBay and Gumtree and on this occasion the seller has just accidentally added a digit. Everywhere else it is for sale at £3895 not £38,950. See here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1969-70-CBS-VINTAGE-USA-FENDER-JAZZ-BASS-FIESTA-RED-REFINISH-HARD-CASE-/181402542248?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item2a3c6f20a8 Mind, its not worth that either IMHO given its a refin!
9. Keith sent me a double bass pickup that I was after and refused to take payment. KInd and generous and one of BC's real gents
10. Cheers Marc. They will be winging their way to you very soon
11. These strings are about a year old and have years of life on them but the silks are a little tatty, especially the D, having been on and off my basses a few times while I have been on the usual 'string odyssey' (why are Spiro silks so fragile?). The silks are not of course integral to the integrity and tone of these highly-thought-of strings and you won't notice the fraying when in the peg-box! Anyway these are £126 + post from Thomann so how about less than half price, at £55 posted?
12. Just spotted that long(ish) time TC Electronic endorser Chris Minh Doky has switched to MarkBass amps for his upright and electric rigs. For his acoustic gigs he is now using a Mini CMD121P combo - as do I, but there the similarities end! In case anyone was interested! http://www.markbass.it/artist_detail.php?id=1207
13.
I'm always impressed by how well your singists pull off those harmonies in a live setting - even with laryngitis, Laura sounds better than a lot of singers I've heard live!
Thanks Ralph! Hope New Cross Inn was fun
14. http://www.talkbass.com/threads/krivo-magnetic-pickup-review.882092/ Here is a glowing review of a Krivo pickup on TalkBass, by way of a bump
15. If you buy this bass, i won't make you listen to this album
16. Putting this search on hold for time being. I am going to try matching Evah Weich EAD with the Oliv G and see how I get on. I have tried Kolstein Heritage EAD but doesn't quite work and Spiros are too growly to match IMHO
17. You are too kind John and Nick!
18. Mr_Bassman is after one of these. I could meet you (I am just south of Hammersmith Bridge so only a few miles from you) and send it on as I have packing materials if he wanted to go ahead. I will PM him
19.
Bump for a great looking Jazz! ATB, Paul.
Thanks Paul! In response to enquiries, I live in West London and work nr Liverpool Street station. The good lady is not keen on me having people round to view instruments (after a burglary) so I am happy to meet somewhere in London and have an unplugged inspection. You would have to take my word for it that the bass sounds superb - my 9 pages of feedback should tell you I am trustworthy and you could also ask previous owner Old Horse Murphy.
20. This is ideal for playing at very high volumes and the microphonic design means it picks up fingerboard noise too so it's favored by rockabilly types as well as loud bands Here is quite frankly a very scary video of a man playing one! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0ALgX8WnwY
