1.
If this is the case (and it may be, I don't know...), how would bumping help..? Further still: if there are so many ads being placed, all being bumped, the effect is the same as today, no..?
People bump ads at different rates and - even if people don't keep a close watch on Items Wanted - the top thread appears on the home page
2. OK thanks icastle but that just entails (potentially) a load more hassle for the mods. Do the stats suggest that the site was missing tons of fees by people taking advantage of Items Wanted threads? I rather doubt that was the case as anyone wishing to sell would know that they would get a guaranteed wider audience and potentially better price by simply posting a For Sale thread. Seems to me a re-think should be at least considered
3. I think this is a problem. Lots of people who might be potential sellers probably don't watch the Items Wanted forum and, with no ability to bump, blink an eye and your advert is on page 7 and completely ignored/forgotten Is there no way that only the poster can bump the thread (ie, so that noone can try and covertly sell, avoiding fees by replying)? As it stands the Items Wanted forum is decidedly sub-optimal IMHO
4. The clue is in the title which says Sold!

6. Velvets have the same copper windings as on the EAD of Animas (the Anima G is a bit different). They are quite noticeably slimmer gauge than Animas and a lot slimmer than Garbos due to manmade core (some kind of plastic like perlon). The gauge means they are less alien if switching from Spiros. The downsides are they take a couple of weeks to become stable tuning wise and some people report unwrapping issues (I have never had this). Plus they tarnish with sweat although the oxidation is easily removed with a wet rang and toothpaste (Velvet's own recommendation!)
7. http://www.hervejean...aitenmatrix.php I've not played them but I am sure someone will suggest Evah Pirazzi Weichs, albeit these are darker sounding than Spiros. From those I have played, Velvet Blues are really lovely (I like those a lot, more in fact than the silk core Velvets as they are slightly brighter and a great deal cheaper, which is nice!) You can hear both in the string matrix above to see how they compare with Spiro Mittels
8. Our gigs are 75% Pinot Noir, 20% Malbec and 5% Youngs
9. I get our gigs via email and the interweb. I can safely say I have not had a decent pint out of my PC yet
10. Yep, +1 from me. I've played the TAUAW EP quite a lot since it came out and its a very melodic and well-put-together post-rock soundscape. They are absorbing live with an amazing array of keyboard and guitar sounds, firmly underpinned by Jigster's bass and varied percussion. As Nige said, lovely to catch up with him and Jigster (Chris). Definitely recommended if they are playing a venue near you

A decent set of steel strings (eg Spirocores or Evahs) will set you back over £100 or some Innovation gut-alikes maybe £85. Worth thinking about that when you compare costs

For your budget, get on a train to Yorkshire and buy thisnameistaken's ply bass (FS on the forum for £500 including decent gut-alike strings which would suit your needs - bear in mind decent strings are normally uber-expensive extras if you are not happy with the budget steels that will normally be on a cheap bass). In one day, you will spend less than on a Thomann bass and have a usable, loud gigworthy bass with dings (so you won't be precious about it) and good strings. 13. Neil bought some rather nice flatwound strings from me for his new SG bass. All good. Enjoy!
14. Highly rated double bass cab maker Mike Arnopol (ask BCer's TheRev and bassace about his cabs) uses a Puma for double bass and electric, albeit with one of his own 4x6 cabs. Acoustic Image heads are great for double bass but completely clean and so you would need a preamp (eg Sansamp BDDI) in front if you wanted a warmer, more overdriven tone with an electric bass (eg, for blues, rock, old school funk). Stick with what you have!
15. Thanks for the comments gents. One BCer has first dibs and is coming back to me later
16. To be upfront, the silks at the ball end do sit on the bridge saddles but this didn't seem to affect the amplified tone (which was the only thing I was happy with). In my usual fit of over-enthusiasm I also ordered from the US a Gibson bridge Mod-Bar (which means the silks don't sit on the saddles and improves intonation etc from the famously ropey 3-point bridge). I will be selling this as soon as it arrives Mod-Bar http://www.ebay.com/itm/GIBSON-EPIPHONE-BASS-BRIDGE-3-POINT-MOD-BAR-/291089250974?
17. Ina fit of GAS I ordered a Gibson SG bass which arrived yesterday and I ordered a set of Pyramid Gold short scale flats to go on it (as a couple of TalkBass threads said they were the best flats for this bass) Well the bass has QC issues (dodgy fretting, buzz under pickup, gnarled rosewood by the nut) and is going back and I will be seeking a refund rather than replacement as I am pretty disappointed with it Selling these flats as a consequence. Will set you back £40 inc post from Thomann or £50 from Stringsdirect. Yours for £35 posted
18. Andy bought a DB pickup from me and was very patient when the Royal Mail obviously dropped the package in a puddle so that the address became unreadable and they had to send it back to me to re-post/address! Cheers Andy!
19. Wow, that is stunning and - as you say - poles apart from the other main bass in your sig On a related note, the modern take on this (Gibson SG bass) seems to be really good value (£599 for the 2014 'Special' or the faded cherry version at Dawsons) given its US-made. Got me thinking ....
20. Thanks everyone. Unfortunately we didn't win (Spiral Earth have only announced the winners with no order, best debut went to Barrule). Was nice to be nominated though and I appreciate everyone taking the time to vote Dodge Brothers did win their category though (best Blues album)
21. I sold my Low B2 as I have a weak shoulder/back and wanted an ultralight cab. Sound-wise it was probably the best cab I ever owned
22. Here is where all the tortoiseshell has gone http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Custom-Fender-Precision-Bass-1979-USA-Olympic-White-Hard-case-P-X-Jazz-/181339280962?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item2a38a9d642
23. here's the specs if it helps http://www.acmebass.com/pdf/b2.pdf In my experience the more juice you put into Acme cabs the better. Very hi-fi sounding. Amazing for double bass and supposedly really good with low B strings on electric 5'ers
24. Mal bought some DB strings off me. Very simple transaction, quick comms and payment and friendly throughout
