    Thats good (although it must have played oddly to a left hander given the camber of the bridge and fingerboard!) For RnR/rockabilly, assuming you are wanting to learn to slap and pizz (rather than arco) then I would concur that Innovation strings are the best value solution. Silver Slaps (or their yellow-coloured cousin Golden Slaps) are gut-alike strings that have very easy low tension and are much cheaper than steels (which would in any case hurt to slap). An alternative would be Presto Nylonwound Lights (from Thomann in Germany) which I personally prefer, but there's not much in it. There are more expensive alternatives (Velvets, real gut strings etc) but I wouldn't even think about those yet.

    I've played a couple of covers evenings recently where I haven't really had time to learn all the bass lines note for note. As long as you play something close enough and play all the right roots in the right places, noone will notice, I guarantee it!

    The great deity above invented lightweight bass amps for a reason. You have already voted with your feet for the Fusion. I suspect it's only the cool factor that keeps you thinking of the Burman, and that is not enough of a reason when loading out at midnight after a sweaty gig

    Some friends of the band run a club known as Bluegrass Staines in errr Staines (did you see what they did there?) We are on the bill next Friday, at 9pm or some time thereafter (there is a bluegrass jam from 7.30 to 9pm first). It's a double bill with us and The Jolenes (all girl bluegrass band). Not sure who is on first? Now we are not a bluegrass band so it should make for a varied evening.     Quick google suggets Japanese 1970s brand. There's an ebay sale in Oz for a Yamaha bass and one of these amps that went for £89, so I don't think its worth much. Sorry

The only P bass to rival my JV, that I have played at least, was the Pino and that will set you back a great deal more moolah

    Thanks Fionn but I think that is a bit of a historic statement on Jamie's part. After selling to me, he ended up buying another Markbass combo (the very similar CMD121H), which he recently sold again on BC to help pay for his teacher training

    I find myself with a surfeit (4) of combos and as my PJB Briefcase isn't attracting any interest, thought I would post this up. Its the highly regarded Mini CMD121P combo and I bought it in May 2013 from BC'er Toasting (aka Jamie) in excellent near-mint condition with a padded custom RoqSolid cover. Its hardly left my house since (as I tend to use smaller PJB or Acoustic Image combo with my DB gigs) so it remains in excellent condition. No box so its collected/meet-up only in London area.     I would email Kris Kedzior directly and ask his recommendation - he is best placed to know (he plays his instruments as well as builds them). For a warm jazzy thump I would recommend Presto Nylonwound Ultralight strings but they are not great for bowing. For a more traditional steel string that bows, maybe Thomastik Superflexible or Spirocore Solo Tuning (these are meant to be tuned higher than EADG so in downtuning them they become lower tension under the fingers). Many BB players use Thomastik Solo strings
