1. Not played through one but picked one up at London Bass Guitar show and I found it a bit heavy (60 pounds ish if I recall) and a bit unwieldy. Your AER is way lighter and more portable! Edit: just checked and Thomann says 53 pounds but with the handle on top that doesn't make it the easiest one hand lift http://www.thomann.de/gb/orange_tb500c_terror_bass_500_combo.htm
2. Says he is located in Bristol on his side bar details
3. Bump for one of BC's true gents and a stunning bass (sadly I don't do fivers)
4. £75 posted, anyone? Nearly half new price
5. Marcus bought some Velvet double bass strings from me, his first deal on the forum. All good (communications, payment etc) and I am pleased to be kicking off this feedback thread for him. Cheers Marcus!
6. Can only add that I hope things sort themselves out for the best, Pete
7.
Clarky, will you sell the E only?
Sorry I don't think I would find it easy to shift the ADG so it's all or nothing! It's already 40% off new price so I am hoping to sell the whole set Ps thanks Rabbie for kind offer of answering questions on these strings
8. Me again! Phil bought a Full Circle pickup off me, paid promptly and was communicative and friendly throughout the entire transaction - cannot ask for more!
9.
Thanks for the help! What's the difference btw the acoustic image coda s4 and ten2? Worth the price difference?
The Ten 2 has two 10" speakers whereas the Coda has a 5" speaker and a downfiring 10" speaker - so its really about volume and 'carry' of the sound. The Ten 2 is appreciablty louder and as zero9 says the smaller combo struggles against a drummer
10. Tonight, it all finishes early (9.30pm) so I reckon we will be onstage about 8.30pm
11.
Link doesn't work ?
http://basschat.co.uk/topic/231787-73-jazz-bass-with-rebel-relic-neck-sold/page__fromsearch__1
12. Thats a beaut, Jas. Fantastic looking bass and I bet after MB's work it plays stunningly well. Maybe try one of Ben Bastin's wooden endpins? I have one (a few other BCers too) and I think it does improve the tone vs a metal endpin, plus it means the bass is always at the right height
13. In which case I would recommend an Acoustic Image Ten 2 combo as best sounding with DB and very clean with electric bass (you may need to put a Sansamp type pedal in front if you want a warmer, more overdriven sound). Not cheap though. A decent 'budget' option is a MarkBass cmd121p with a good preamp in front when using for DB An alternative that I haven't tried but suspect may be quite good for 'doubling' is AER Amp One
14. Haven't you got a Tecamp Puma head? Just add a Crazy 8 cab and buy a padded cajon bag and you will have a small neat modular, highly transportable rig. Get.a bigger cab for when playing electric bass only. If you have to go combo route I prefer Acoustic Image to Phil Jones as AI has the useful extra features for DB including the high pass filter and phase switch. Both are good though. Not tried Barabass but it looks retro cool! If you don't end up with a head or combo with high pass and phase, I highly recommend getting an fdeck pedal to put in front
15. Simon bought some double bass strings off me and all was good. Recommended!
16. Jens is always experimenting with finishes as you know. Just sent me a Paperback Ritter
17. Not in Ealing but only a couple of miles away - in case you don't find anyone closer - Chandlers in Kew http://www.chandlerguitars.co.uk/
18. and replied! Sold pending
19. On Monday night I will be playing upright bass for the UmbrellaBirds, a London-based Americana collective, at the Canadian Thanksgiving evening at the historic Rose Playhouse in London (the Tudor theatre and oldest on the South Bank in London) Any Canadian BCers or any fans of country/acoustic music please come along! We will playing songs by Neil Young, Be Good Tanyas, The Band, Dave Rawlings Machine, Gillian Welch, Glen Campbell (yes, my favourite song of all time, Wichita Lineman) and others
20. Zellers are fab DBs. Good score that man
21. Cut to £90 posted, saving you £50 (and losing me the same amount ) These are very fat slapper-oriented strings (not for fat slappers, you understand) and are completely different to steels, so they are a bit specialist. The extra-fat A string has a sort of gummy residue on it which the company assures me is part of the manufacturing process and quickly rubs off (or can be removed immediately, if so desired, with oil, eg salad oil and a towel). They are just a bit too alien for me
22. lovely bass Jon and a barg at that price. GLWTS
23.
There is certainly a lot of love for the Full Circle and the 15 mins that it was on my bass was very promising. But it crapped out as soon as I started the gig and, like Clarky, I've got my doubts about the flimsy wiring. There are several reliability issues on the 'other' forum; it's just not up to Fishman's usual quality. So I won't use it. Clarky, I hope you'll be happy with the Lifeline; I blend mine with an Underwood and get great results. It's only an extra lead.
Thanks Roger, for the avoidance of doubt, I have never had a problem with the Full Circle in a live setting but I fear the thin wire will get bashed, especially as I often play in pretty small pubs/venues. That said, in the 3 years I have had this bass it hasn't happened yet. But I just feel that there are more robust designs available and - with the rave reviews for the Lifeline - I want to give it a go
24.
Are you going for that new one that slots in the adjuster?
Yep, the Realist Lifeline, which is getting great reviews Peter/Keith, I think the FC sounds great but I don't like the design (with the thin protruding wire), hence I have a Lifeline on order. If it doesn't work out, I still have an Underwood on my Kolstein bass I can switch over in an emergency
