I know I have said it before but I honestly think I have finally found my string nirvana (Spiro Weich EA and gut DG) Hence am moving on this lovely set of strings which is very nearly as nice as the aforementioned Its a combination of Garbo Light EAD and a Garbo Gut G. All are in very good condition with no breaks/kinks/unwinding - the Lights are probably 2 months old and the Gut G is just 2 weeks old New would cost you well over £200 at Thomann or Bassico when in stock (eg, Thomann is charging £227 plus post for a Garbo Light set). I will sell for £140 posted and consider that an absolute bargain given the quality and condition. So roll up for a very low tension, gut sounding and feeling set

The end of the line for the Innovation subforum
Clarky replied to daflewis's topic in EUB and Double Bass
I didn't actually get to try any Innovation strings from the samples going around but I would like to add my name to the list of those who think you did a great job of spreading the word and providing good advice -
KK are very high quality copies of the Ampeg Baby Bass from the 1960s and this is a nice discount from new price and means no waiting time. Customer service from Kris Kedzior (the West London-based manufacturer) is excellent too. Someone grab this quick (I already have an Ampeg BB before you ask why I don't just snaffle it myself .... )

Tenner sent Ralph as you were so kind as to attend an All The Queens Ravens gig without laughing at my bass playing -

I bought this only a few weeks ago from BCer guybrush threepwood (aka Craig) who had previously bought it from BC's Owen. After the initial burst of enthusiasm I very quickly discovered that I simply do not enjoy playing short scale basses with medium/high action, however beautiful and retro they may look. It sounds lovely and thumpy but I just don't like the experience of playing it compared with my Jazz bass. Best pics and description are on the previous FS thread and here's a tasty pic Craig took (hope thats OK, Craig?) Also happy to hand over in London. I would also consider p/x against a US or Japan Fender Precision in sunburst/rosewood neck or oly white/rosewood or maple neck (no other trade offers and no MIM Fenders thanks, sorry but I am a gear snob!)

I just picked up a Tecamp Puma amp from David. Beautifully packed and a lovely thing. Thanks David!

Hi Gareth, TBH I think these will feel fairly similar to you to the Rotos (but smaller gauge). In my experience, all black nylons feel plasticky to begin with and mellow with age. The exception is Pyramid Black Nylons which have a sort of textured, almost cloth like surface. I am guessing these wouldn't be your cup of tea!

NDBD The Strunal has landed **feelgood update**

If you are near Harrogate, BC's Mr_Bassman (aka Keith) might be able to help you out or point you in the directin of another luthier? I would drop him a PM. He's a total gent -

Had them on my fretless bass for a week and decided I preferred ordinary La Bella flats. Home use only. Consequently in very good, nearly as-new condition. New cost me £40 from BassDirect including post. How's about 25% off, so £30 posted within UK? PS, its the larger diameter 760N set, which is 60/70/94/115 http://www.bassdirec...ylon_wound.html

The Crazy8 is a stupidly light (about 12 pounds IIRC) 1x8" cab which Tricky Audio makes under licence from Greenboy (as I understand, like the FearFul range). You carry it with amp and cables in a cajon bag, the whole deal weighing less than 20 pounds, and it works fabulously for small venues (coffee shops, small pubs etc). Obviously any 8" cab will run out of oomph against a loud drummer or noisy band but for my drummer-free Americana group (about 8-10 of us) it works really well. Bassace has used one I believe in a big band so I guess it can go louder than I have pushed it but best ask him. looks like this

Sharing a video of the great Oscar Pettiford that Geoffbassist posted on his Facebook bass column, Discover Double Bass. Just look how huge his gut D (especially) and G are (the E/A are wrapped gut) but most of all ... what a beautiful tone. As close to chocolate as a double bass can sound IMHO https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7da4WkFqE2g&feature=youtu.be

I think it all depends on volume - if you are playing a low/medium volume gig you CAN sound like 'your bass, only louder' with something like an AI or EA amp (and by the sounds of it the Barabass too). Of course it also depends on your pickup too and the type of room, flooring etc. As soon as it gets any louder than medium, there is an inevitable compromise and it probably doesn't matter much which amp you use
