1. I switched it to my right hand (bear in mind I am playing double bass and rings can clatter on the board) about a year ago and haven't moved it back. SWMBO hasn't noticed in all that time
2. There are very few strings as low tension as Silver Slaps and with thicker gauge D/G - pretty much other top end whacker types (Cordes lamberts, Gut-a-likes, other Innovations) or real guts (which cost a lot more). Steels will all be narrower gauge. Velvet Garbo's (silk strings, wound in copper) will work but I don't know if they do a high C and they are v pricey too. Maybe as a compromise some hybrids (eg Evah Pirazzi Weich, Zyex light) which won't be fatter gauge but won't be as different as say Spirocores and which have an earthy more gut-like sound than regular steels?
3.
Erm, yeah, I was outside too. Couldn't get in and me ticket cost me £20. And I was beaten up by the bouncers. And mugged So, I'll take £25 for the ticket and £8k for the facial injuries and inconvenience.
Cheeky beggar! Get back to your hat shop
Shame on you Clarky. Wish i was in a band that could sell out a bus shelter let alone a venue.
The Green Note is "cosy", like a Bleeker Street venue in NYC, Marvin. We are not talking the O2!!!!
4. Cheers Jack! The gig was a blinder, great crowd reaction. We played our first drummer-less gig (he is travelling the world) which put extra onus on me as the time keeper but all was good. Next time you are in Camden just roll your trouser legs up and wear a fake Brian Blessed beard and you will blend into the crowd ;-)
5. Keeping the Oliv G following gig last night. Velvet Blues still for sale though
6. Sorry Sylvia! The Green Note have invited us back to play at the end of the year - we will know better next time about booking tickets in advance. Basic problem was that this was the first time we had ever sold out a venue so it came as a shock to us to see them turning people away
7. groundbreaking band, this was my favourite http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DuN12dVmsT0
8. A bunch of BCers - namely Ralph, Jack and Silvia (plus Ralph's lady friend) - turned up to my band's gig tonight at the Green Note in Camden. Unfortunately its a 'cosy' venue and it was completely sold out by 8pm, so this esteemed crowd were turned away. I know they had made the journey from New Malden and Chiswick respectively on a fairly crappy night weather-wise so I just wanted to say a massive sorry that they had come all this way and not gained entry. I owe you all a drink (or two)
9. I assumed this would be a thread about Ikea
10.
The Ltd Ed 55 Precision looks great. Available in dirty white too.....Clarky, if you're reading this, look out!
Thanks, CW - I am reading and am potentially interested but I suspect the CS price will be prohibitive - bet it comes out at £2.5-3k
11. Out of interest Rabbie, how do you find the gut D? On my bass, the various gut Ds I have tried (Chorda, Lenzner, Goldentone) sound boxy/clunky when played pizz with lots of overtones so that they sound very indistinct ... especially if you move above the first few positions. There's a bunch of threads on TalkBass about people having problems with gut D's along similar lines.
12. I keep fiddling around with Velvets, guts etc for that old school sound but have ended up with Spiro Weich on the bottom and plain guts on top (Chorda Carlos Henriquez) as I have been playing in an all acoustic (no amp) bluegrass setting - in this band/collective the lower gut type strings get a bit wooly and lost, whereas you hear the Spiros. I would love to find a compromise! After reading and listening to geoffbassist's review of Zyex lights I am wondering if I should have stuck with those (briefly owned a set but traded them on as I was striving for a real gut sound at the time)
13. Can I be first to say phwoaaarrrr! Truly lovely
14. Friday, what is likely to be last ATQR gig for many a month. We are on somewhere between 9 and 9.30pm
15. Might be a good idea for Andy Baxter to take your mate's bass off eBay then Chiliwailer! If someone places a bid where does that leave him? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1957-FENDER-PRECISION-BASS-2-TONE-SUNBURST-ANDY-BAXTER-BASS-/181622698939?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item2a498e73bb
16. Andy Baxter has a rather more relic'd (but still v nice) '57 for just over £7k. The NKR price is absurd! http://andybaxterbass.com/details.php?id=774
17. I've played Jack's bass and I would really like it too!
18. Paul bought some TI strings off me and all was good! I couldn't find a feedback thread so am pleased to be able to start one. Cheers Paul :-)
19. Biggest barg on BC! Someone has to bite at this price
20. Fullerton was Fender's factory in the early 80s and the reissues from that era are highly sought after and top notch http://www.fenderreissue.com/fullerton-era
21. Re posting pics, you have obviously reached your maximum allowed size quota, GJ. If you go into your profile, you will see a Manage Attachments option on the left hand side menu. This will show all the photos you have previously uploaded - you can then delete redundant photos so that you free up space to post new pics :-)
22. Roberto bought an Acoustic Image double bass combo from me. Great communications, paid quickly and was very patient while I sourced packing mateirals. Excellent stuff!
23. My usual once-in-a-while string clear-out - a set of Velvet Blues in vgc except a slight kink in G string (near the A/Bb position) which can be negated simply by twisting the string so the kink is at the side and neither touches board or fingertip - £60 posted in view of the minor issue on the G (they run to £140 new inc post from Thomann).
24. I got these last week off the splendid lozz196. For the last few years I have been using a heavier gauge of flat (La Bella standards) and I wanted to try the lower tension TI flats which used to be my string of choice 5 or 6 years ago. I put them on my Jazz and very quickly decided I prefer a heavier gauge flat after all. I paid £30 posted and - given some very slight extra fuzzing of the silks from me fitting and removing two days later - I will lop a couple of quid off, making £28 posted. Alternatively I would do a straight swap for vgc La Bella standard gauge flats (with the black silks)
