      "it’s been modified"

Oo!  I missed that.  Have you told BC about this before?  If not, any chance of a topic about it?

The brief go I had on it suggests that I should go for a short scale fretless too.  I am okay with standard 34in scale with frets but my intonation isn't great when it comes to 34in without frets.

Erm that would actually help me play in tune, so wouldn't put me off at all, quite the reverse 😂

  2. You have a PM incoming
  3. I am borrowing one at the moment and yes its 34" and yes it sounds awesome - can do a great upright bass impersonation as well as a more 'regular' fretless electric bass sound. Dunno about downtuning though, not sure I have ever come across anyone trying this (there are a few Youtube vids)
  4. I don't bow (strictly pizz) but I am guessing nylon-wrapped guts are scratchy and horrid as the surface is not so different from say Silver Slaps. We are probably heading a bit off topic for the OP here!
  5. Incidentally all, there is a new set of Pirastro strings coming soon which sound like they might be a strong alternative in the low tension steel stakes https://www.talkbass.com/threads/new-pirastro-perpetual-double-bass-strings.1406744/page-3#post-22766173
  6. FYI, my bass has 3/4 Solo E and A and Red-o-Ray nylon wrapped gut D and G. Gives a Charlie Haden type sound but with less tension on the E/A. Obv not with Charlie Haden skillz on my part, lol!
  7. The E is darker with a little less growl than Weich/Mitts (not quite so Danny Thompson) but not radically different and still identifiably Spiro
  8. Hey Laurence Evah Pirazzi Weich are the following tensions - you can see only the G is similarly low in tension to Spiro 3/4 Solo (I have put 3/4 Spiro Solo in brackets after each) E 63.4 (57.8) A 64.0 (57.8) D 61.4 (57.8) G 56.1 (56.0) 3/4 Spiro Solo are in my view much easier on the left hand and they still retain that core Spiro sound, if a little darker than Weichs/Mittels
  9. Pretty sure (as I have the iAmp500 head) its fine to go down to 2 ohms which means you can pair with a 4 ohm cab. Why not try and seek out an old style black 4 ohm Wizzy 12 (warning: I tried and couldn't find one but they must be around!) so it looks like a neat stack? See pic in this old ad https://gsfanatic.com/en/hirdetes/453317/-9--ea-usa-iamp-500
  10. 32" (does that count, or is that medium scale?) Cliff Bordwell ball bass. Next to short scale dog
  11. My bass does this on the A string. Vagaries of a big wooden box I'm afraid with all sorts of resonances. You either need to remove ('notch' out) the offending frequencies or cut the overall boom with a preamp pedal that has a high pass filter (HPF). The most popular HPF pedal is the fdeck pedal. This is only sold in US but the schematic is available so it can be copied freely. Rafferty makes an equivalent in the UK https://reverb.com/uk/item/19554860-rafferty-hpf-pre-2-bass-preamp-adjustable-high-pass-filter-phase-switch-custom-color?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIzo-8zpLu4gIVzL3tCh0tOw6PEAQYAiABEgIvV_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds&pla=1 Or you can drop the Sansamp and get a DB specific preamp with this functionality built in like a Fishman Plat Pro (there's one for sale on this site, here
  12. It is indeed good for metal and has also left the building 😁
  13. From when my eldest son wanted to be in Slipknot at age 12 or thereabouts (he is now 26....). Needs restringing and probably a basic setup. Also has annoying or useful - depending on your point of view - pick holder stuck on the front (doubtless it can be carefully removed). Pickup only as no box from Hammersmith area. Good for a beginner guitarist that likes metal. Free to a good home
  14. My lefty son had this to learn on about 10 years ago. Gave up very quickly of course ... Its a bit scraped and knocked but plays fine and has benefit of Thomastik flats on. Will need new batteries for active EQ. Good entry level bass, especially if you like the none more black, metal look. Will come in padded Fender gig bag. Specs here: https://www.musiciansfriend.com/bass/esp-ltd-b-104-bass-guitar Can post for £15 or you can collect from London (Hammersmith way)
  15. Most beautiful love song lyrics ever, in my view. Nick Cave 'Into my arms' I don't believe in an interventionist God But I know, darling, that you do But if I did I would kneel down and ask Him Not to intervene when it came to you Not to touch a hair on your head To leave you as you are And if He felt He had to direct you Then direct you into my arms Into my arms, O Lord, into my arms Into my arms, O Lord, into my arms Into my arms, O Lord, into my arms Into my arms, O Lord, into my arms Into my arms, O Lord, into my arms Into my arms, O Lord, into my arms And I don't believe in the existence of angels But looking at you I wonder if that's true But if I did I would summon them together And ask them to watch over you To each burn a candle for you To make bright and clear your path And to walk, like Christ, in grace and love And guide you into my arms Into my arms, O Lord, into my arms Into my arms, O Lord, into my arms But I believe in Love And I know that you do too And I believe in some kind of path That we can walk down, me and you So keep your candles burning And make her journey bright and pure That she will keep returning Always and evermore Into my arms, O Lord, into my arms Into my arms, O Lord, into my arms Into my arms, O Lord, into my arms
  16. Originally custom made for Kev Hopper (like my fretless ACG), this is a stunning little bass with 32" scale and ultra slim neck (1.35" nut). Obviously the design takes inspiration from Carl Thompson. Conveniently the initials are the same as my FaceBook moniker Clarky Bass, in case I forget who I am. Plays super fast and sounds very gnarly. As does my (pictured) sausage dog Pablo
  17. Edit: Cab hunt sorted!

PS the NL210 video does work for me

  18. I have an early 1900s upright Cramer piano that is not being used. If anyone would like it, feel free to take it off my hands. It will need collecting from me (SW13, south of Hammersmith Bridge) and obviously will require a van and at least a couple of strong individuals. Also it will need tuning once its at its new venue.
  19. New to BassChat, Chris (aka Eggman78) took a chance buying my Gallien MB500 amp sight unseen. Friendly in his communications and quick pay. I am happy to kick off his feedback thread with a very positive experience 👍

Beautiful. I am currently borrowing a Takamine TB10 which does the DB thing really well but is several times the price. May help your sale to add some sound clips or a vid to illustrate the type of sound this produces
  21. I have an Items Wanted ad but not everyone reads that forum - so is anyone looking to offload a 4 ohm (only) Euphonic Audio NL210 Gen III or Wizzy M-line 112? Thx

I am pretty sure I saw some EA 2x10 doobrie on a Facebook Bass for sale type page fairly recently. I cannot guarantee it ticks all your boxes and I cannot remember which group it was.

Thanks Owen, it was a Gen I (the heavy version at 44 pounds - the Gen III is an old man-friendly 34 pounds) - plus a pal bought that very cab off the FaceBook seller yesterday!

Ah :( But the thrill of the chase!

  22. Another vote for Spiro Solo 3/4 downtuned to EADG. Have the Spiro core tone (albeit slightly darker) but noticeably less tension. See image attached for a really useful comparison. Presto UL or L are nice but a different kettle of fish altogether, being much fatter (in diameter) nylon wound, gut emulating strings.
  23. Chris(tian) bought my super-eclectic banjo bass.Very friendly comms and quick to pay. Can't ask for more! Cheers
